Ukrainian language from different parts of the country seem to be different as well. For example some West Ukrainian dialects are closer to Polish, like the word for 'sorry' in this video, Ukrainian 'Перепрошую' (Pereproshuyu) is clearly very similar to Polish 'przepraszam'. I don't think this word is used in other parts of Ukraine further away from the western regions

I cannot pretend that shocking events have opened my eyes. I did not know much about the Ukraine, it’s culture, language at all before these events. However I am moved and want to learn your language. When this horrible chapter in your history is over I would like to come and get to know your people and speak your language. I have pledged support at my local Ukrainian Community Centre and I stand with a free and democratic Ukraine. I know this language learning will take a long time but I’m watching Ukrainian News bulletins on You Tube and watching your amazing You Tube videos too. Thank you and I hope I learn something. You might like to know that Russia has a "growing interest" in the Caribbean countries. From experience, I can say that Russia being interested in your country is bad news. They might try to bribe government officials or try to manipulate popular opinion in one of the Caribbean countries, very possibly Jamaica, to make it a second Cuba. Some sort of violent escalation is also possible, everything from terror strikes to a full scale war, no matter how unlikely war might sound in the region right now.

some foreign words that come from other countries often change their meaning. I like the comparison of the Ukrainian and Turkish languages. the words watermelon, pumpkin, melon, and zucchini have completely opposite meanings, it's very funny. Many Polish words sound funny to a Ukrainian because they have a different meaning in Ukraine.

The words sure have changed through the generations because I learned to speak Ukrainian in the 50’s before English and the word “please” in Ukrainian was said as proshoe. I spelt it in English as it sounds in Ukrainian. My Dad was born in Stryi South of Lviv and he escaped from the Nazi’s during WWII and came to Canada. Lots of stories about that War. #9 we never used it ever. #14 I say, “yak shumayish”.

Yes, many have changed, i guess, but we still use "прошу (proshoe)" or "pereproshyyu" and even sometimes "yak sya mayesh" (less often). Some phrases are more typical of the Lviv dialect Hello from Lviv :)

Fun fact: you can also use "перепрошую" in the start of conversations when you are asking someone for something. Like: "Перепрошую,не могли б ви сказати де знаходиться туалет?/ I'm sorry, could you tell me where the toilet is? ",sorry for my English, I'm still learning.

Must commend you: Your pacing is excellent here. Many language channels move too quickly for the average learner. You take your time and speak clearly so we can learn the pronunciation. And you repeat each phrase at least twice. Thank you for your work, from one polyglot to another! 🇺🇦 🇺🇸 I’ll be checking out your other videos. Cheers from Texas. -The TXican

Why is my understanding of some Ukrainian words is different, I learned Ukrainian from people who came to the United States after WW2. But for the most part I understand 80%. My family was from Western Ukraine. Thank you for your video, you’re incredible. Wishing peace for 🇺🇦

Thank you for this video! I get frequent Ukrainian Student visitors to my Special Education Classroom and want to be able to communicate better with them while they're here in my room. I will watch this video many times. I am also listening to an audiobook, which is somewhat helpful, but being able to see you say the words helps tremendously.

This is Really Neat! I Started learning Russian a few years ago, and I have always loved the Slavic Languages! Looking at these greetings I can see how they are so similar to Belarusian, such as the Belarusian "Da Pabachennya" (Goodbye!) and Dzyakuyu (Thank You!) It seems to me the Ukrainian and Belarusian seem in many ways more "brotherly" than Russian is! I know they use many similarities (For example, the name of the months) ( BTW, I learned many years ago the near futility of trying to translate Belarusian or Ukrainian phrases using Russian vocabulary!
