After this episode first aired, someone edited the Wikipedia entry for kettle corn to say "Troy Barnes calls it a fun-time snack." Unfortunately, it didn't last very long.

Shirley's ex-husband is Theo from the Cosby Show. They even do a few references: he's wearing a sweater that he got from his father (Bill Cosby), and Troy does a Bill Cosby impression when he's asking about when they had sex (kind of creepy now since this came out before the allegations against him).

Hey Jeff was jealous of Annie. He pretended to be jealous of Rich because he wanted the self-esteem boost. I didn't see it the first time I watched it either but became obvious a few months later or so, but I didn't understand narcissists were just robots, I'm paraphrasing.

Rich isn't a perfect guy. He has some deep seated childhood trauma and he's shown to be rather naive and cowardly when faced with a zombie apocalypse. But... he's genuinely a nice person. He enjoys helping people and doesn't try to take advantage of others. The reason we hate him is because Jeff hates him. And this episode and the one he first appeared in showed us that... Jeff is the bad guy in their rivalry. If we had to use anime terms... Rich is the Goku and our main character is the Vegeta.

It's 2021 and hearing Troy say "aww kettle corn...that's a fun time snack" will always make me laugh

Showed my friend season 1 ep 1-3 two nights ago. He kept saying the acting is off and the plot is ridiculous. He kept finding things to criticize. I hate people talking during to begin with. I didn’t even “show” him the door, just told him to find it. I haven’t talked to him.

The "Emmanuelle in Space" joke is a reference to a 1994 cable soft core T&A TV series which was loosely based on the 1970's european soft core series of erotic films about a woman named Emanuelle and her adventures in various parts of the world, which would inevitably lead to sexual encounters and lots of nudity. It makes perfect sense that Pierce would have this in his collection!

The joke at the beginning wasn't really the laser disc part, it was the fact that Emanuelle was a series of cringey soft core porn movies popular on home video among baby boomers.
