Here is the COMPACtenna 20/40 Micro, a 10"x10"x10" antenna the size of a bait bucket, that operates on 20 and 40 meters. The videos in this video is proof that it will work if this is all you can do to get on HF frequencies.

I have the 2m/70cm COMPACtenna on my truck, and another on a tripod with counterpoise that I use inside or portable. I have zero complaints, and might be considering this one! Thanks for the hard work you put in.

Thanks for reviewing this antenna. It should be helpful to many people who have problems with putting up big antennas.

Dr. Jack has been making antennae that effectively reduce or eliminate mobile flutter and multipath degradation for decades. He started out making Yagi design antenna with 1/2 inch conduit and Plexiglas. I had a few of those. He progressed to multi whip mobile antennas, I still have one I use for receiving satellites on my chimney. This last version is by far the best iteration for the VHF and UHF bands. Now using the same principles he is making bucket antennas for HF. Dr. Jack is really getting to be a wizard at antennae. Eric keep up the great job.

Very convincing. I am on the 4th floor with a small balcony. I will find a way to extend the bucket out >10' and see what happens and will report back to you. Thank you and the good Dr.. very much.

Amazing! I find this antenna very interesting. All options for stealth antennas are welcomed. I am loving the 'Kenwood' TS-940s! It reminds me of my earlier days in HAM radio, before technicolor touch screens.... Great memories!

I’m a believer in the tri-bander Compac. I have it attached to a Third Light antenna mount and I routinely get out 30-40 miles simplex with 50 watt Anytone DMR. It’s critical to follow the mounting directions for the antenna. You have to mount it at edge of your vehicle. If this paint can antenna works, it will be perfect for POTA.

Thanks for the video. I have a 2M/70cm compactenna on the rear corner of my SUV and it works well. My parking garage has a 6’ 6” clearance and even a dual band 1/4 wave whip wouldn't clear. I’d be curious to see an A/B comparison other antennas such as an EFHW, Dipole or portable vertical. Knowing how much it costs and how many db you’re giving up would be good to know. Would you call this an NVIS antenna?

I love Dr Jack's antennas! I have the tri-band vhf uhf with ground plane kit at about 18 ft high as my base antenna and another tri-band for my vehicle. I also have the Scan III on my roof with a ground plane kit for my Uniden scanner. That being said. I know a lot of time and research and development goes into these antennas. And its performance is impressive. The cost for the 20/40 HF micro antenna is steep at $474 for just 2 bands. I do hope it works out!!

Thank you so much for your comments, BR20276. You are correct, after visionary inspiration, a lot of engineering time and effort does go into these novel designs. Also, even based on BOM (Bill Of Materials), the retail cost is calculated from standard formulas. In addition, I look at the market where my VHF/UHF antennas are priced on the low side of USA made antennas, and I priced the 20/40Micro at the low end of small magnetic loop antennas that are the closer thing in existence to this unique and easy to operate design.

Dr. Jack must know his stuff. I was originally using a whip antenna for 2M/440 and received middling or poor reports from all but the closest repeaters. I recently bought the COMPACtenna 2M/440 Plus and from the same location, I am getting strong signal reports from a repeater 2 counties away.

Can you put a choke close to the feeding point of the antenna to exclude that the “real” antenna is the coax? Only with a choke and by excluding the coax we can 100% confirm that the black box is radiating. I had same good experience with EH antennas but after placing a choke close to the feeding point all signals dropped…

I looked at the car video that you made for these and only see one problem, if I am area over 110 degrees. I'm in Va and we see 100+ in Aug. I have pulled wire in attics that were 135 easy. Ambient temps in Fla, Tx, NM, ect. on cars will be 110+, I'd hate to see the attics. It does say diminished effects, I'd just be sure to watch where I stick it.

I need your help. I'm going to take my Technician exam hopefully in the next 2 weeks. I was going to buy a radio that I could use on 6 meters, 2 meters and 70cm then I was going to buy the icom 7300 so I could play with it until I got my license. I saw that a icom 7100 would do it all UHF, VHF and HF. If this is the case I'd could just get the 7100 and be done with it and not buy a 7300 for a few more years. Am I looking at it right. Will 7100 do it all?
