Their are additional methods besides closing downstairs registers and adding jumper ducts. New, one time cost cooling needs to be added to the blower system. This can be achieved by burying geothermal lateral lines yourself. Bury the largest pvc pipe (3" and larger) for as long of span as you can afford. Three to Ten feet deep. Wrapped in insulation, neatly, inject the business end to the closest two return register on the first floor above grade. Of the air handler is in the basement, find a way to inject this geothermal into the plenum. There are also ways to draw air from concrete basement walls bringing this geothermal to the plenum. Be sure to return air to the closed loop underground geothermal.

This ranch style house built in the 50s was hot water in the ceiling, very inefficient and water leaks. I replaced it with energy efficient forced air and central A/C, had ductwork installed. The basement now is 63 to keep it 73 upstairs. They installed only 1 damper. Have registers closed in 2 rooms not used much. What do I do, call the guy that screwed it up and get more dampers? Edit: All registers in basement are closed, Also I used shiny duct tape to close every gap in ducts I could find in basement.

Company is stating my AC is working fine but even on 77 F my AC is blowing too long no matter what is current outside temperature. Our home is split level.

What type of businesses check the return vents & can fix them. What are those professionals called (so i know how to find them? We have a new a/and furnace- top of the line. But there are two rooms that just do not cool off adequately in the summer or warm up enlugh in winter.

I like the two zoned system. Is it possible to have some type of damper to bypass the first floor?

I think you're describing what I have. 2 zones, 1 is upstairs, 1 is downstairs. Coming out of the unit is ducting going upstaris, and other ducting going downstairs. There is a damper leading to upstairs, and a damper leading to downstairs. Default is they're both open. When the air upstairs runs, the downstairs damper closes. When the downstairs are is on, the upstairs damper closes.

I have a two zone system with dampers. Problem is all the heat from downstairs comes right up the stairs and we end up 80 degrees upstairs, 62 degrees downstairs, that's with the unit off in winter. If I turn the unit on, downstairs will get comfortable, but upstairs will overheat.

I'm in a new house and I have the similar issue with three zones. Two on the main floor and one downstairs. All the homes in the community with downstair rooms zone the heating company set the system to blow 20% air to the main floor. It overheats upstairs and the only access we have are the register dampers. Makes no sense.

when you say closing downstairs registers, do you mean returns or registers downstairs?
@kirktitgen6395

He means registers and he was clear when he mentioned "in some rooms downstairs, not all". You would not want to close any returns.

Hi, we just bought a new house and now that it’s hot notice that very little air comes out of the vents to most bedrooms. There is only one bedroom of which the cool air is coming out. Is this “normal”?

Now all of a sudden it wants to work in the summer , it was all the way on 90 , i saw it a d shut it off but it’s still on 🥲

We installed a curtain spring tension rod at the bottom of the stairs going to the second floor . That prevents the heat from the first floor from going up to 2nd floor . Also you might have a HVAC specialist to do a whole home system check .
