I did EPEver and Renogy about 6 years ago , still running great. 2-1000 watt inverters 2-2000 watt inverters. 3000 watts of solar. We just upgraded batteries to 10 - 12v 100ah Li Time batteries.

I am on my second RV conversion. Leaving the 12V system, including single 180Wp solar panel, untouched, I installed 2 Pylontech 48V LiFePO4 rack mounted batteries, and a cheap Chinese All-in-one inverter/controller/charger. I have 4 KWh of usable energy (4.8KWh rated) and uninterrupted switching from Shore power to Battery, and 600Wp additional solar panels for 3000$ total. Victron stuff is well designed but extremely overpriced. I use DC to DC step down converters to efficiently step down 48V to the 12V system with a switch to select which 12V source to use, either the original 12V installation or the 12V system stepped down from the 48V System I added myself.

Hello, I have the Renogy 3000w inverter with a soft start in my Houghton 15k rooftop AC and it cannot run for more than a few minutes for a few minutes. I've already spent the money on Renogy inverter, shore power and alternator charger. Thought the soft start would run with the inverter but it does not. Which victron inverter do you think I need? Any help would be helpful?
@saltytrips

The Renogy 3000w inveter should run one AC with a soft start. Sounds like you should do more troubleshooting first. Another inverter isn’t going to solve the problem unless that inverter is just bad.

My thought is to install a Victron system more or less identical to yours and in the same manner, solar to come later. My question is what’s your thoughts should I sell this 5th wheel rv in the future removal and returning it to factory more or less and keeping all the Victron equipment.
@saltytrips
@saltytrips 4 ай бұрын
I would keep the equipment unless you have a buyer thats willing to pay enough to recoop your losses on the setup. If you plan to do the same setup in a new RV just keep it and move it over. I’m installing a second inverter, that video should be out soon.

I have a Sungold Power all-in-one Hybrid 5000-Watt Pure Sine Wave Inverter/100A battery charger/charge controller (up to 5,500w of solar). It works like the Victron in that it instantly switches over from utility power to battery or solar in milliseconds, so even sensitive computer equipment continues running like normal. The screen doesn't even flicker, it's that fast. We live in our motorhome FT, and have pets too, so this is an important feature, for sure. What I like about it is that you can configure it in many different ways prioritizing both charging and output modes as well as a host of other settings parameters (62 in total). The best thing about it is the price. I think it sells for only $764 now.

A lot of good options out there now compared to a few years ago 👍. Does Sunglow have power assist like if you’re on 15a or 30a hook up?

@@saltytrips What it does is if you have, say, 15 amps coming in from the grid, it uses this to charge your batteries in tandem with your solar, powering your RV with the 5,000w PSW inverter. The limit for grid battery charging for my model is 40 amps (which can be adjusted down so you don't trip a breaker if you are on a 15 or 30 amp service) up to a maximum combined charging amperage of 100 amps. It also allows for a max of 63 amps (7,560 watts) bypass from the grid to power your RV without using the inverter. I have sufficient solar, so I don't need to connect to the grid or run my generator anymore. I don't use this option, but if you don't have enough solar you might enjoy this feature. It will also work without batteries allowing you to use either solar or grid power directly, say if you temporarily disconnect your batteries for maintenance or repair. One of the reasons I purchased this unit is that it will accept 500 volts of solar input. My array puts out around 330-350 volts under load and 400 voc. This keeps the amperage down and lets me use smaller wires with no power loss. The inverter is 95% efficient, the same as the Victron and it has a power saving feature that drops the normal 40-50w idle power consumption down to 20-25 watts when not in use. I have this feature disabled, but those with limited battery capacity might find this useful. Here's a link to the company's website if you have more questions about this model. sungoldpower.com/collections/power-inverter/products/5000w-48v-solar-charger-inverter They have many more models too. This one suited my needs perfectly, but others may be right for you. One of the reasons I chose this company is I met a fellow FT RVer in Quartzsite who has been using a Sungold Power inverter reliably for about 10 years and he recommended them. There are cheaper ones out there, but they are, well, cheaper. They have a nice 6,500 watt/120a model with built-in Wi-Fi (it's a $100 option for mine) that's only $1,100, but its max voltage is only 390 volts, which is sufficient for most people but just short of my needs. Take care, Chip.

will your system run both ac’s when hooked up to shore power?
@SuperSushidog
@SuperSushidog 4 ай бұрын
@@kurtmcclelland1086 Yes. Both ACs together draw a max of about 2,500 watts due to the micro aire soft starter on my rooftop AC, though they typically draw under 1,700 watts running together. A 30-amp connection will provide 3,600 watts. If hooked up to a 15-amp extension cord, this power will be used to charge the battery and the battery (or solar) will provide the power needed to run all loads, up to 5,000 watts (surging to 10,000va briefly if needed). If I need more wattage than this, I have another 1,000-watt inverter connected to my 560ah 12v bank that is wired to run my entertainment system, desktop computer and a few other select items, that will reduce the load on my 48v system, effectively giving me 6,000 watts of inverted 120v power. But frankly, I tested it with both ACs and the microwave on and it never drew more than 80% of the inverter's capacity, according to the power usage meter on the inverter, without my 1,000-watt inverter being used.

I'm currently building a lithium system for my recently purchased early 2000s class a motorhome. I've mostly picked lower cost bang for the buck components including going so far as to buy 8 raw 280ah lithium iron phosphate cells and matching bms from a chinese distributor and have them shipped via sea freight. I've come to the conclusion that the 2x120 multiplus is more or less a wash in terms of cost upfront and cheaper medium to long term. Upfront it means I don't have to buy a transfer switch (my rv was setup from the factory to just plug the shore line into the onboard generator) or lithium capable converter or a soft starter for one of my roof airs. Medium term it means I can go with a smaller and cheaper 3kw inverter generator when I replace the dead onboard one and use the power boost functionality to run my roof airs. Long term the low standby current means I can consider cheaper 120 volt fridges instead of 12 volt when my 20 year old 2 way fridge dies. The ups function and programmability is a nice bonus as is the 120 amp battery charging when you are trying to charge 7 and maybe eventually 14 kwh of batteries via 12 volts.

If you plan on running 14kw of battery you may want to really consider stepping up to 24v or even 48v. Our system has 15kw of battery and we are running 24v. Do what makes you happy just be safe 👍
@mgkleym
@mgkleym 4 ай бұрын
@@saltytrips I've thought about it. If victron offered a 2X120 multi plus in 48 volt I might have gone with that. I don't feel like 24 volt offers me that much given the pretty short high amp cable runs for my install location and since I don't intent to go past 3000VA inverter capacity or 300 amps dc which imo is about the maximum it makes sense to do with 12v. The 14kwh is a potential future upgrade that may never happen if I get a small generator setup to feed off the big chassis fuel tank like I want..

Having gone Victron, I would never go to anything else...Victron is made to work together, there's no muss, no fuss, it just works...having had other stuff in the past, even same branded items, they don't always play well together, and THAT is why I chose VE for my system... My off-grid system consists of: 2200W PV on the roof split into 3 different arrays, 800W(4x200W) front, 800W(4x200W) rear and a 600W(3x100W + 3x100W) combination front/rear with each array feeding into it's own 150/70 charge controller, 2-Lynx Distibutors, a Lynx Shunt VE.Can, 2-3000VA Multiplus-II 2x120V in parallel, a Cerbo GX with a Touch 70, all the associated misc, and 4-BattleBorn 270aH GC3 tied into another Lynx Distributor... I added another subsystem for up to an additional 800W of ground mount PV's with another 150/70 charge controller, should I want to deploy it/them... System wide, all PV panels are from RICH Solar... I'm able to run anything I want, consuming up to 4800W(3000VA x .80 = 2400W x 2 = 4800W)at any given time...A/C running, want to use the microwave, no problem, OH, gotta run the electric water heater too, no problem, system can handle all that that at the same time... Sometimes it just nice to be off on your own, and be self sustaining...

Depends on your application, rule of thumb is 1.25 x max working load amps. This is a 24v system so technically I can use 1/0 cable but went 2/0 for extra precaution. I have a 300 amp fuse on shunt, 150 amp fuse for MP2 and 80 amp fuse for Orion 24 to 12 converters. Just depends on your application.

You're wrong on automatic transfer switch. Some (like mine) are 3 second delay. Others are in milliseconds and not noticable. Not a great argument for the victron, but warranty and service is definitely a great argument for victron. Along with everything talking to each other and their great app environment. I went with cheap inverter and 3 victron mppts. Great content otherwise!

@@joshuahayes2564 nope, 12awg is rated for 25 amp (120v would be 3000w) at 20 ft and at 30 ft only rated for 20 amps. Most 5th wheel RV are more than 30’ if your running 12awg 30’ at 25amps its over its rating and could cause fire. Gauge wire all have an amp rating and it reduces over distance which is a safety factor for people to consider so I’m absolutely correct on both accounts, transfer switches are not UPS, there will always be an interruption. So whether its a millisecond or 30 seconds it doesn’t matter, has the same effect
