I bought a set for my drift boat too. There is more standing in those. Interesting to see so many drift boaters using this channel for info. We love you Zach!

The cobra oar locks are primarily used with drift boats. They allow the oar to go more vertical on purpose for sculling the oars to make the drift boat move laterally across the river without moving down river.

I just watched your other video on oar locks yesterday. (I'm getting ready to buy a set of MXS-G oars for my drift boat and just doing research) Excellent info that helped me make a decision in what to get, thank you!

I've always been happy using the Saywer "A".

You should do one on guide sticks for paddle guides...custy stick vs Sawyer vs Werner etc etc etc

I do stand up & row a lot on longer flatter rivers and I like the Cobras. I never really thought much about downsides to letting the oars go more vertical, but maybe I haven’t had that issue. I also really like the threaded Cobras but I’m also not swapping locks on different frames too much.

the cobra is great for driftboat fishermen who often use a single hand sculling technic which requires a vertical oar lift

It looks like things are starting to get better, but man last year when I went to buy some spare oarlocks for my repair kit, there wasn't many options. Not even sure what brand they are.

The A locks tend to tear up rope wrap faster because of the smaller surface area. I’m a fan of Cobras.

I own a lot of A locks and a lot of rope wrapped oars and have not had this problem

@@GearGarageTV interesting maybe it has to do with the brand of oars. The torn up wraps have all been cataract, not sawyer.

I thought I would post so people are aware. If you run smoker bandits you need cobra oar locks for sawyer to honor the warranty.

The A’s are the cheapest then cobras with the canyons being the most expensive. Unfortunately most of the local shops only have cobras or NRS so I bought the expensive cobras and have had no issues with them this far.

The canyon and the cobra look identical except for the blunt tip. Seems strange you’d like the canyon when you don’t like the cobra…
