One of these days I'll add a 500, 501, 503 and 055 to the collection. At present the 110's are attracting more of my dollars. So many variations... Loving the S30V variants.

So many great things about the 110 & its variants. I have yet to go beyond the classic version, but would like to. Thanks for the comment!

Great video! The 501 looks like a very good size for every day usage. The nickel and rosewood is a great combo. Thanks for taking the time to share

I agree, I like that it's slightly larger and bulkier (though not bulky) than the 503.

I can't decide between getting a Squire or a Prince. Decisions, decisions...
@classicbladereview1886

The Prince feels better as my edc, sits in my pocket and I hardly know it's there. The Squire, being a little bigger, has a more obvious presence, you won't forget it's there. Both are great knives, can't go wrong with either!

The Buck 110 and 112 are now very customizable straight from the company. They'll give you a choice of blade steels.....blade shape (drop point or clip).....polished or satin.....premium handle materials......finger grooves......steel or brass bolsters. I just wish they'd offer the addition of pocket clips, though these knives are heavy enough to jerk your pants down LOL.

I ordered the 55 and 501 to compare and see which one I want to give my dad as a gift.. the 55 is just a tad small, but we will see what feels better when both are in my hands. the 55 was a bit more and doesn't come with a leather holster, also the pins are different then the 501. On quality alone,is the 55 design and build better? I also wanted to get his initials engraved, but not sure where on the knife to do that and who could do that.. too bad buck doesn't sell a model with metal inlay on the handle to get engraved or something..

In the early/middle 80's, there became a world-wide BAN on Rosewood ( a relative of Ebony). However, because Piano/Guitar makers had previously established plantations for a source, Ebony (used for the black keys on a piano, and guitars because of the sound. Oh, and sailboats) had plenty of supply. Rosewood, on the other hand, suffered a world wide ban, because at the time, there was really only one source. Madagascar. And it was rare even there! Soon enough, slave labor plantations for Rosewood, which was HIGHLY valued as a furniture wood, were established in south america, but those too, got bad press. For a while, Rosewood was only available from illegal Madagascarian poachers! One good log could set you up for life! Meanwhile, the rest of the world leaned how to save their sawdust and use various Resin recipes to make Gun grips, knife scales and all sorts of Rosewood Sawdust formulations. Decades later - The Indians (the ones with dots on their heads) announced that THEY had grown a somewhat different species (not actual Madagascarian Rosewood, but close enough for the girls we go out with) and it looked and felt just like the REAL stuff! Now you know why "Rosewood" was (while not common) was a 'thing' prior to the 1980s, virtually disappeared until just about 10 or so years ago... Apparently trees take forever to actually grow to a useful size...

@@davidwelker4172 Being a Gerber fanbois at the time, around 1984 or so, my sister gave me a fantastic Christmas present. A Gerber 350st Exchange. with REAL Pre-Ban Rosewood Scales. Based on the then popular 350st, it featured 3 exchangable blades. It became my EDC for almost 40 years! I never found another roaming knife stores all over the country. However I DID find a fat old man at some sporting goods knife counter, who claimed that the Rosewood Scales were made from one of the last "Legal" shipments from Madagascar. I'm not saying that that's true. It's just what some fat old guy manning a knife counter in some sporting goods store told me. Makes an interesting tidbit... Considering, my sister sort of remembers that back then, she says it cost around $50, and that they now sell quickly on Ebay for around $120 - $150, It's one of the few knives I've seen that have appreciated in Value. One day I found the Stallion for $36 and purchased it (late 80s early 90s) Those too are now flying off Ebay $90+! Last Christmas, my wife got me a 350st Exchange, that had been hiding in some old dead guys dresser for almost 40 years, Looks as if you had just taken it out of the box, not like it had been my every day belt companion for almost 40 years!

@@davidwelker4172 Idea's for more Videos for you! The 350st and Exchange version, Stallion (pre Gator rubber folder) So far as I know, There are NO Videos on KZfaq about either. I did see a 350st used in a How to use a whetstone video, and a stallion in some old grainy blade shapes video, but he didn't know what it was called... It's been long enough now, almost 40 years, Pre-Fiskar I believe, when Gerber had moved to Taiwan and Japan, before being bailed out and purchased by the Fins (Fiskars is a Finnish company if I'm not mistaken) So they got to move back to the USA...
