Where can you find the hardware you mentioned for the threaded rod. I built an Arduino car (not the best mostly wood) and I made a homemade robot arm. I would like to mate the two with a platform to raise the arm so it's not just a for off the ground maybe raise it 4 feet. I'm not looking for a lifetime of use, don't care about precision, and not worried about power consumption. I really just need to know the best search terms. Everything I look for is for 3d printers or a CNC machine. I live in a rural area so I have home Depot and Walmart so I have to I buy everything online, mostly from China because I'm not rich. I can get threaded rod easy enough, but no hardware to go with it. I can't find a lead screw over 3' for less than $100 which is way out of budget for my little Arduino hobby project.

I am planning to build a CNC machine for soft woods and plastics. Now i have stumbled across trapezoidal lead screws which from what i have found out are way way cheaper than ball screws. Almost 8 times cheaper. How come?
@ServoCity
@ServoCity 7 жыл бұрын
The manufacturing process on a ball screw is more complex - the cut must match the spherical shape of the ball bearing that will be riding within it. Please let us know should you have any additional questions tech@servocity.com.

thanks.... i am purchasing in Germany because i am from Germany. Apart from being more cost effective in the manufacturing process... is there any significant advantage i would gain from a ball screw compared to a trapezoidal lead screw?

Could you make a video comparing stepper motors, vs geared Dc with lead screws? i think the main variable would be torque. And also, how can you determine how much torque would your application would be needing for selecting neither a too powerful, expensive and heavy motor nor a smaller, cheaper that does not do the job.

Hello, i have made a cnc frame 40 x 60 cm wide with v slot aluminium profiles, have mounted 16mm rods and bearings and a router trimmer. Wanted to ask: for this cnc frame size and 16mm rods and bearings: 1. what thickness of lead screws should i use and 2. which is the smallest stepper motor that i can use ?

Hi, I have a question for you that I hope that you could answer. I have seen a type of threaded Rods under the piano stool to my wife, and it has a very interesting mechanism. When you turn the nub that is attached to the threaded Rods, to bolts that are placed on the threaded Rods go in opposite direction, so I wonder whether you know the name of this type of threaded Rods? Thank you very much!
@ServoCity
@ServoCity 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Shahab, there are surely a variety of different thread types and pitches that have been used on stools through the years but the ones that come to mind are very similar to a lead-screw thread. The conventional setup is to have the threaded rod, whatever style it may be, fixed to the round top that rotates. The threaded rod passes through a nut which is fixed to the base of the stool and as the top is spun it causes the threaded rod to spin and hence thread up/down within the nut. If you have a different setup that you'd like to share feel free to email tech@servocity.com.

Hi, thanks for the explanations. Which components do you have / recommend for mastering backlash on the lead screws 4 start or 5 start? And what would be best precision to achieve?
@ServoCity
@ServoCity 5 жыл бұрын
We do not currently offer the typical style anti-backlash nut with the spring in between two threaded pieces. One way to adjust the backlash would be to use two lead screw nuts, one of which would need to be mounted in a clamping hub so that it could be turned independent of the other. How you clock one nut with the other will determine the amount of backlash in your assembly. The precision will be up to you given it's adjustable. Let us know should you have any other questions tech@servocity.com.

Thanks a lot for your help! Im creating an industrial bakery machine and found this very usefull for an adjustable height workbench where the main machine will stood on. Understood that lead screw are more efficient because its has been manufactured more preciselly and therefore I'll have less friction and less energy converted to heat to reach better performance in terms of translational speed and force of the screw (you correct me if im wrong) and also in EN system, the greater the pitch number, the slower will be the translation because it has to create more revolutions to translate 1 inch. Also reacting to some comment around here, this principle of screw mechanism is very usefull in the industry and are the basics. Its like the slider-crank, cam-follower or the clasic 4 bar mechanism with revolute joints only. Dont delete the video.

Hey, i wonder how far the nut of the lead screw moves by rotating it 360°. So I just need the distance per rotation. Edit: I found out that the english term of it is "lead" or "lead of thread" and it is 8mm per rotation. Is that right?
@ServoCity
@ServoCity 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, when using our 8mm lead-screw, each rotation yields 8mm of linear travel. Please let us know if you have any other questions tech@servocity.com we'd be glad to help.

@ricksflicks- 5 жыл бұрын
No talk of speed. It looks like the speed of the screw action would be faster than a normal threaded rod but I guess we will just have to assume that. A side by side comparison between the two rods would have been good...
@perryschlanger
@perryschlanger 4 жыл бұрын
Speed is going to be a function of the shaft's RPM and the lead of the thread. So 1/4-20 threaded rod will move your load 0.05" per rotation.

Does the title say "everything you need to know about lead screws?" Maybe it did 4 months ago, but right now it says "Comparing Threaded Rod & Lead Screws : With Jason." I don't know why you would expect it to cover different types and sizes of lead screws. That would be a much longer video. Loving that completely superfluous use of the word "nomenclature," though. Reminds me of a comment on a "Decisive Battles" history doc. Some guy was like "lol this guy doesn't know much about history (as if the host also researches & produces the show). Didn't say anything about [emperor who ruled 200 years later] and his battles with [totally unrelated opponent]." Bro... it's a 45 minute doc and you're expecting 2000 hours of information.
