According to the defense industry on May 8, the KF-21 equipped with Meteor took off from Sacheon Airport at 11:45 a.m. and waited in the air before successfully launching at 12:20 p.m. and returning at 12:47 p.m. With this, the Boramae became the world's fourth fighter jet to successfully conduct a Meteor live-fire, following the Eurofighter, Rafale, and Gripen. The live fire was carried out by tracking the unmanned aerial vehicle 87km away with the AESA (active electronically scanned array) radar mounted on the aircraft and firing a Meteor to pass by within 1m next to the unmanned aerial vehicle.

Korea urgently needed its own fighter jets to replace its outdated fighter jets. And while accumulating technology, the KF-21 was developed to develop into a new generation fighter. KF-21 applies a three-stage development process. In the third stage, the KF-21 is changed to internal armament. Currently, Korea operates 40 F35s and is in the process of introducing an additional 20 units. So, externally armed fighters are needed rather than stealth fighters.

Korea is a brother nation for us. I hope we can do better together in the future. Great things are done collaboratively.

These 2 planes are being developed for different purposes - KF21 as a 4.5 gen medium-low multi-role aircraft that carries ground attacking munitions under its wings while KAAN is intended for a 5-gen high air superiority figher that accommodates all the missles in its weapon bay. Just compare that KAAN is 30% larger in scale while its max payload is just 5% larger than KF-21 (3:45). This is just like comparing an medium MPV and a full sporty car.

I hope both platforms perform well. Would’ve been great if Turkey and Korea worked together on this project. But I think the Americans are helping S Korean a bit more. I believe the Americans are also helping on the Kaan. Think the engines are GE or Pratt/Whitney. Either way, best of luck to both aircraft! Greetings from the USA 🇺🇸

Kann has flown only once and has a long way to go but KF-21 is already scheduled for its mass-production this year after thousands of test flights. Comparison is a nonsense at this point in time.

Some Koreans called Turkey a 3rd class country. Yes, we may be in some issues, but this does not make us a bad person.

I'm reading strange comments about Kaan. Don't see it as two production-ready aircraft. KF 21 is at least 2-3 years ahead of Kaan. Moreover, it is done with great aid from America, England and Israel. These systems their tried-and-true plug-and-play systems. However, Kaan has to do everything with his own infrastructure. That's why the Hürjet project needs to progress. All avionics, radar and warfare suites are made from scratch. First it gets stuck with Hürjet. Then it is developed and adapted to Kaan. Also were some changes during the design. Initially, the first designs were to be 4.5 generation, similar to Korea's KF-21. It was an aircraft with advanced suits that replaced the desired F16 aircraft. After the S400 crisis, Türkiye was removed from the f-35 program. This led Turkey to expand its targets. Opportunity arose from the crisis. Türkiye is currently one of the three countries that design the most advanced unmanned aerial vehicles in the world. In other words, while doing this project, it is also producing infrastructure for the 6th generation. Even if there are delays, this project will definitely progress and will be in demand.

Since when KF-21 became the fifth Generation?

KF-21 tested Meteor missile on May 8, 2024, F35 has not yet been integrated

People have to remember that the kf21 is being built in 3 stages, so it doesn't have the problems that the f35 has, over 800 problems a couple of years ago and still has around 700 problems because they tried to do everything at once for the aircraft. The kf21 is doing 3 stages, the first stage is just to get the aircraft in the basic version, the second stage is to add enclosed weapon bays, and the third stage is to upgrade everything for a final top line aircraft, this way they will not have all the problems the f35 has and it's cheaper to, and it's a smart way to develop the aircraft.

Although the KF-21 is stealthy, it lacks internal bays like fifth-gen fighters and is instead equipped with 10 external hardpoints for armaments. It is not 5th generation by design.

Comparison now is too early. Both of the projects are not done yet and in progress. Correct comparison should be done when both projects are done and in active services. We need to keep in mind that many military projects have not finished properly in the middle of development.

Both aircrafts will be 5 th gen in their future blocks. Koreans need internal weapon bays and we Turks lack of a 5 th gen engine. Things take time and I wish both countries success. On the other hand, if things go wrong, these will be on a 4.5 gen status which is still great, may compete or even exceed a modernised F-15 or a Rafale… And even sometimes as in Ukraine, not a top-notch and super expensive weapon sustem is necessarily needed in all fields of a battle but in lower qualities with bigger and cheaper quantities would do the work. In my country Turkiye, there was an argument to make a cheaper 4.5 gen fighter with domestic capabilities, keep it cheaper and add extra amounts to the purchase, i.e., instead of having 100 5 gens, having 140 4.5 gens etc. due to maximized cost of building a home grown fighter. But it was decided to go with 5 gen. I wish both countries succees, make safe landings and use their own systems. 🇹🇷🇰🇷

Kf 21 is promising jet no doubt about it however it's not 5th fighter due to lack of internal bays, gan based aesa radar and lower ram coating. It's gonna be a 4.5+ jet with low rcs. On the other hand TF-X Kaan designed for 5th (or even 6th) gen fighter. Main goal was use F35 as a low class 5th to deep strike mission and use TFX for the high class 5th just like F-22 and F-35 duality. Turks working on 35.000 lbs thrust engine for the Kaan program along with British Rolls Royce company but for now prototypes equipped with F-110 engines (about 29.000 lbs of thrust). Even now Kaan has stronger engines than its Korean counterpart yet aside 35.000 lbs upcoming engines. Its bigger, stealtier and has more range than Kf21. Kaan will be equipped gan based aesa radar that's why its nose section is waaayyyy bigger than Kf21. Stronger engines, more range, internal weapon bays combined together makes Kaan better than KF21 Overall you simply can compare these two. Kf21 is like Rafale-F15E mix but Kaan is like J20-F-22 mix. Hell its bigger than these two.

칸은 한번도 랜딩기어를 수납한적이 없는데 칸은 랜딩기어가 들어간 사진이고 KF-21은 이미 랜딩기어 수납은 끝난지 오래고 테스트 비행만 1000회정도 하고 마하 1.8의 속도를 내고 있는데 😅

TFX is far heavier and lager with insufficient thrust.
