NGL Snyder is really onto something with this 4:3. The image really packs a punch when it's so tall - it conveys the larger than life, mythic quality of these characters so well.

Yeah, it’s fantastic if you have a 4:3 display. The problem is that most people don’t. Even Nolan chose 16:9 for home media IMAX scenes. I don’t know what the right approach is. I guess Snyder’s 4:3 is better as you can just zoom in. If I ever get a display better for 4:3 the movie will be ready to go. With Nolan movies I would need a new copy. I liked 4:3 in Batman v Superman as you went from 21:9 to 4:3. Still using same percentage of screen. With Justice League though we could have 4:3 or 16:9. For my second viewing I chose to zoom in to 16:9 and I think I preferred this. Simply because it’s bigger.

I'm not really a fan of the Letterbox Aspect Ratios especially because we have much larger screens and pixels nowadays but after watching Zack Snyder's Justice League, I grew to prefer the 4:3 Aspect Ratio. 4:3 still has the black bars (just left and right) but the image shows a lot more of the scenery.

@@av941 Using a projector is probably the most cost effective way to enjoy both aspect ratios. You don’t notice the black bars on the side of the screen as much when the screen is the size of your entire wall. 4K projectors can be much pricier than HD projectors, but they’re about the same price as a much smaller 4K TV.

@@domphilbrick Yes, I'm really looking forward to having a bigger screen in a few years. That's why I landed on 4:3 being good for those who actually have a display that size. I think it's very few though. People with iPads maybe. Right now I have a very wide room and the ceiling isn't that tall. A 21:9 screen will fit best here. 4:3 is still going to be as large as it can be. I can sit closer as well. I think picking an aspect ratio that fits the room will be normal. Projectors already do this well. Their compeditior will probably be micro led.

@@av941 I think it works great even if you don`t have a 4:3 display, unless you watch your tv at 40 meters away or something like that. Movies are constantly released on ultrawide aspect ratios and nobody complains.

I know that the 4K remaster is coming out on 4K Blu Ray in the UK in May, so I'm assuming it'll be available in more regions over the world too.

Wow the changes in colour grading work and, I can't believe I'm saying this, I think I prefer most of the full frame shots to the widescreen originals! Great job as always Moon.

One thing that may not be obvious is that the new version is grainier, which is great as it makes it very clear that the movie was shot on film and not on digital.

I found it funny that some people shit on the 4:3 ratio of Justice League but when you compare shots in that film and this one you notice that you don't lose anything on the sides, but you gain at the top and bottom? Makes you think is widescreen really PROPER widescreen in a lot of these films? The first knightmare shot for example is perfect proof of this.

This is just how films are shot, you shot with head room for later framing. In this case the film maker decided they prefer to keep the full frame which usually in cinemas wouldn't be allowed sadly. You have to remember widescreen only became a thing to make movies appear different to tv. Otherwise film would have remained in 4:3 all along.

I’m a little annoyed that the whole film isn’t in 4:3 for the remaster but otherwise it looks like a vast improvement over the previous version.

Only the scenes shot in IMAX. If the other scenes were cropped in 4:3, you’d take a lot out of the image.

Great comparison. The aspect ratio which has been changed from 2.39 to 2.35 which is the correct squeeze for anamorphic lens. The highlights have been raised. The colours have been made a little more saturated.

I'm Gunna say it again I Know the 1.43:1 IMAX Aspect Ratio is Showing the Full Screen but I'm Still Preferring 1.78:1 IMAX Aspect Ratio I don't enjoy Black Bars on Both Left/Right of the Screen I Still Prefer & Enjoy 2.40:1 I Also enjoy 1.85:1 aspect ratio 16x9 is better than 4x3

no it isn’t. the only scenes in 4:3 are the knightmare scene, the opening scene, and the funeral scene.

I was gonna by this but I already own two copies of the ultimate edition in 4k and plus on the digital version I have of the ultimate edition that comes with the physical disc,they updated it and gave me the 4:3 for free

WB needs to re-release BvS and MoS as 'Zack Snyder's Superman', a compillation movie with 4:3 ratio (if it is easy), 3 hours length or a little over, more cohorent/likable/cohesive/sensible/acceptable/tolerable/engaging/understandable/relatable/believable/likeable/enjoyable plot/lore/characters/pacing/script/presentation (even thought it is actually a recap, not a retcon) that shows only the bests of both movies, and better/lighter visuals. Gundam SEED, Gundam 00, and Gundam 78 did compillation movies before. WB and DC should follow the example very well and carefully, so that DCEU can stay strong(er) and have more faith/respect/acclaim/profit/enjoyment/applause/excitement from people. Sorry for the bad writing.

Absolutely! That framing really works for this version. I think it really helps that all of the IMAX scenes are truly an ‘all imax’ experience. I hate when there are action scenes where only the hero is getting the big frame, and the person on the other end of the communications line is in a changing ratio. Two good examples are Trek Into Darkness at the beginning with Spock in the volcano, and the end of Dark Knight when Batman is going after the hostages

Seriously. I really don't get it. 1.43:1(4:3) and 2.35:1? I understand Imax is filmed 1.43:1 but when it is shown in a Imax cinema it is still framed 1.77:1(16:9). So why the hell show it on our 16:9 Tvs in 4:3. It does not make sense. You would not see it in 4:3 at an Imax cinema anyway. And why have some scenes in 4:3 and in the same scene change to 2.35:1 for no apparent reason. Zack Snyder has used the argument that all superheroes are vertical and not horizontal so it looks better in 4:3; no shit Sherlock, everyone is seen vertical unless they are on their back. Why not frame the whole bloody thing in 16:9 from the start. You can then show it at the cenema, Imax and on tv without changing a thing. Even Christopher Nolan has his Imax scenes when on blue ray in 16:9. You know what I'm just going to buy the unmastered 4K version because the aspect 2.35:1 is what I would have seen at the cinema.

If you've ever been to a real IMAX cinema (not an IMAX Digital cinema which is the most popular) then you'll realise that IMAX is usually presented in a square format and not 16:9. Alot of films "fake" the IMAX and don't show the whole picture (this is why some movie posters advertise "70mm IMAX release in select theaters" etc.) Nolan's version on Home Release is Full Frame similar to how Josstice League is mostly full frame. While you're getting more of the image, you're not getting all of the image as it was shown at the cinemas. From your comment I can imagine you watched the Nolan films at an IMAX Digital Cinema.

This may be the case but seriously " more of the image", really. As far as I can see most of the image is more of the ground and sky. Fine, the real Imax is 4:3 then watch it at an Imax cinema in that format. My tv is 16:9; it not imax. I waited so long for movies to be shown in wide screen instead of shit pan and scan on 4:3 that we had. This is a backward step.

Not sure where you’ve seen these IMAX presentations I saw this at the London IMAX and the IMAX scenes were a square image two storeys high it looked amazing.

@@mralsal I don't see a problem. I want to see the full image. Top and bottom. Sure I have a rectangular screen but I want to see the full shot, no cropped image. The black side bars aren't that noticeable and again, it completes the whole image. It looks great, especially when its a Snyder film

@@canceritself1854 I don't hate his movie either and I am also a huge fan of Zack Snyder. But I'm just saying that even though many people don't like his movies they still enjoy it or watch it. Because even if the story sucks the visuals are just amazing. But I think the story in his movies are great and I enjoy it.
