Well the 4K HDR format allows for old film movies that properly look like they were meant to. Because of the higher resolution, wider colour garmut and higher dynamic range you finally have a digital format that can show the full potential of film.

@@stonewars3224 It now probably looks better than it ever did in the cinema. I have to say it's very pleasant to watch and the detail is stunning. I watched them on my 26 inch 5K monitor. It's only a hair shy from HDR10 quality. I have to say colors of the "old" version displayed in this video are oversaturated, particularly reds.

The only problem that I have with the 4K remaster is the DNR applied to the picture. It doesn’t detract from the experience, but the fact that the grain has been scrubbed off just sucks.

@@rmn070 …..I agree with you. It isn’t authentic. It completely lacks the “personality” of a film that was made in the mid 70’s, with the grain scrubbed out and various imperfections digitally cleaned up the print does seem a bit artificial. That being said, the 4K image is very crisp, the colours have mostly been corrected from the horrendous magenta shift that was applied to the Blu-ray version. I’ve sort of accepted this print as the best available version currently on home media, mostly because it is the Special Edition and not the original film. I never liked the awful cgi additions and unnecessary Jabba scene spliced back into the story. (Although even that is ok compared to the cringy musical number dropped into the Return of the Jedi …….I’d bet good money that I’m not the only person who presses the skip button on the remote control when that scene appears?)

@@jimd385 You’re not wrong about that Jabba scene. Last time I saw the movie, I skipped over it. It’s unnecessary, and I don’t understand why George Lucas doesn’t listen to the criticism he got for inserting it back in, because he could have removed it.

The ring effect is back to red like it was in the Special Edition (when it was introduced). The ring effect lost its colour on the DVD release.

Funny enough I think that Cantina shot is one of the most improved. I like his saber looks more like it used to and not a dark blue prequel blade.

That's probably because all six of the original pre-Disney Star Wars films have had extensive DNR applied to them, smoothing out all the film grain. It's not as bad a DNR job as the Predator Ultimate Hunter Edition Blu-ray or Buffy the Vampire Slayer remasters but the potential for a truly sharper and more detailed image is mostly lost.

@@JambopaulGamerInPJs It's naive to think the old prints didn't need extensive cleaing, but even so, I notice a siffucient amount of grain for me. It's as noticable as any modern movie shot on film; anything more is just weathering.

I feel like the 4K made the colors closer to the original but I also think they washed it out a little to much I’m hoping one day when I have the chance maybe a oled screen could fix the problem

Luckily though, the Blu Ray disc is not the old one and has been remastered from the 4K scan. That rarely happens with other Blu Ray discs in 4K releases, so this is awesome! 👏

Yeah the green cast doesn’t belong. The whiter light is more natural.

It helps with the 10-bit colour depth too; the colours look less patchy, especially the reds.

I don’t see any magenta cast on the BR; but I see a definite green cast on the 4K which is very obvious.

Dear Dr. Anthony You should go into your settings and set your color temperature to zero and you won't see any green :)

Well if you buy the 4K Blu Ray (either the big box set or individual films), the Blu Ray Disc that’s included is the remastered version, just in HD.

The non 4K blu ray that is packaged with the 4Ks is based off the new 4K master. The blu rays packaged by themselves which were released a year earlier are the old 2011 blu rays.

Agreed. The newer version has removed the terrible over saturation, but some scenes have a filter look over them. Especially the scenes with white/white backgrounds. So yes, something between both of these versions would be perfect. I'm looking forward to Adywans Revisited fan edit versions. If you've never heard of this guy, check out Star Wars Revisited 👍🏻👍🏻

Lance Lust it moved the colours back to what it used to be .. the older Blu-ray versions had an inaccurate colour

@@Mymoonization Compare 2:18 to 2:22 On my PC monitor, the new version looks like there is a haze over it. If I were editing in photoshop, I would try to adjust the contrast slider. Is this my monitor, or is the difference on a 4K TV similar to what I see on my PC monitor?

Dear Geoffrey It's possible, however take into account that each television does not put the same result so it can happen in certain some person !

If you get a chance to watch the Harmy despecialised versions you'll see the 4K version matches the Harmy ones - which are as close as we can get to the original prints. I think we've been exposed to the over-saturated versions for some many years now we've forgotten what the originals looked like, so they appear washed out by comparison now.

These 4k transfers were actually supervised by Lucas before he sold the company.

With all due respect to the guys in FilmNegative 1 but 4K77 or 4K83 doesn’t look like the film prints were looked in theatres. Despite the fact that they were scanned from actual positive film-prints. Projecting to the theatre screen is one thing, projecting to the video is something else.)) They have a lot of problems with the picture, some shots and areas of the shots are overexposed, some too dark, underexposed. Very amateurish stuff. They aren’t as good as people praise them, pretty far from it, actually imo....((
