Yep. That's correct. All 6 movies were going to be re-released in 3D. After the 3D Phantom Menace release bombed, they cancelled the plan.

@@gorillapancake Actually the 3D releases were cancelled when Disney bought LucasFilm. They said they did it so they could concentrate on making the new films, but mostly they wanted people to be more hungry for theatrical showings when the new films released.

Do you know if the sky on Tatooine was originally as hazy looking? I was curious about the clear blue one pre D+. Is that blue sky a modification for HD?

I just checked the Despecialized Edition, the D+ version has a filter on top of a filter, making Tatooine's sky look yellow in the Burning Homestead scene. It's still blue in the Desp. Edition.

The colour saturation in the Bluray version was way too much. The bluish filter didn't do better. Now it's very close to Despecialized, i agree

Yikes, last time I saw a comparison it sure didn't. The Depecialised versions looked much better with colour.

It did and Disney has access to it. Mike Verta restored the original movie and did it better than any production line based company. He has examples of some of the early restoration work and progress up on his vimeo page. He works within the industry and it is not a fan edit.

HDR converted to SDR always looks green/ teal. On and HDR screen/system it should look more natural.

I`m watching on my surface pro7 (2736x1824 Pixel) and the 4K Version looks...GREAT!!!! in Sharpness! and color and compression.

You can actually see her legs in the blu-ray version but the 4K version gets rid of that due to the brightness. I agree the colour looks wrong on Leia there.

P Ferreira This color grading was based off of prints of the original movie. Remember, this is a movie from the 1970’s. Movies were colored much differently back them.

@@davidfigueroa8188 Two things to consider: it's possible the original prints will have degraded over time so the colour will be off somewhat, secondly even if the colour is correct to how it's supposed to look it's possible Lucas may have gone with different colour grading had he the technology at the time. I certainly feel this version has room for improvement.

@@Mymoonization Cant wait for it. I have roku ultra 4k hdr compatible but when i go to every supposedly 4k content on disney plus, it only says Hd. I dont understand since i have a 4k tv and all my other apps yotube, netflix, hulu etc output 4k with not problem.

@@Mymoonization Very strange. I dont know if i should put my roku display in auto detect or leave it at the setting its in now which is "4k 30hz hdr'. The last time i did that, netflix stopped displaying 4k and only started to give me Hdr and Hd.

In this case, I suggest that you go to your TV settings and set your color temperature to zero and you will no longer see the greenish tones in particular. Let me know 👍 !

@@Mymoonization Thanks for the reply! yeah setting it to neutral would be an idea. I don't have a 4K player/TV (my best friend from back home does but he's 4hrs away. The only time I've been there is when we saw the AMC Star Wars movie premiers). I watched some of the Disney+ 4K on my MacBook Pro when I had a sub to watch the Mandalorian. If I had seen this video I would have paid stricter attention to the color timing. The only 4K scene I watched was Greedo's 'Maclunkey' line. With that said, I think the standard Blu-ray included with the 'Star Wars: A New Hope 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray/Blu-ray' has 'Maclunkey'(?) If so, that means the 4K would be res'd down to 2K, and I'll pick it up. (The 2019 Disney/Buena Vista Blu-ray is the exact same as 2011 boxed set. Inlcuding the Blu-ray player bookmarks I saved lol. Gotta love repackaging the same thing 4-5 times. The cover is pretty.) Our old Samsung Plasma HDTV with a Sony Blu-ray player is set to Color Tone = Warm 2 (close to the optimal video 6500K color temperature for most sources) and Mode = Movie. Otherwise My MacBook Pro Retina can't be changed and really doesn't need to (which is what I'm watching this video on).

​@@Mymoonization (I'm signed into my other channel) I picked up the 4K + Blu-ray set for $12 at the used store Since I don't have 4K capability I'll comment on the included Blu-ray The 2020 Blu-ray disc art looks exactly the same as the 2019 disc Except one says copyright 2019 the other 2020 really small 2019 is a repackage of the 2011 boxed set (re-packaged in 2012 and 2015) 2011 is basically the 2004 DVD questionable picture with some things they cleaned up like Vader's pink lightsaber. But the contrast black crush and grain is heavy The 2020 picture based on the 4K looks fine I left off at the Falcon being caught int the tractor beam scene so I have to finish it, however... Compared to 2011 It’s brighter, clearer and sharper (maybe a bit too sharp) The only thing I’d say is it’s not as ‘Film-like’ It looks more like shot on video It didn't come across as yellow-greenish as this comparison A couple spots did but not bad for a 1977 movie But so far I didn’t see any glaring issues like the reviews such as blu-ray . com I watched some on the MacBook Pro and some on the Plasma with the settings I mentioned above The audio level is relatively low I had to turn it up 10db on my Sony receiver And Greedo says Mclunkey! (which I like btw lol)

That's because the D+ scan is primarily based off of the colors from the 1997 rerelease.

What is a 4k DVD? I only heard of 4k Blu Rays.

Jeremy Drew You know what he meant; 4K UHD. The point is that streaming currently can’t get close to the bitrate of a physical disc and so the video and audio quality of even a 4K stream will often be objectively lower than a standard 1080p blu-ray. UHD discs are the highest quality by far.

My moonization my TV has been professionally calibrated and I’m watching your captures in 4K on my TV and then directly comparing them to D+ 4K and blu Ray on the same TV. I can only assume that KZfaq is adding some color artifacts, giving the samples a very yellow look or it could just be your 4K captures.

I've watched this on Disney+ on a 4K TV. It's an excellent improvement over the 1080P Blu-ray. Much better color and increased detail. The 4K Blu-ray will be less compressed and should look better than the Disney+ version.

I guess people who grown up with the awkward colors of the DVD/BR will find the new version dull. The D+ color are definitively superior but far from perfect... When you think they pay millions for theses "restaurations". There is a yellow tint on theses pictures... When in come to the "Special Editions" the 97 version had the more natural colors (close to the originals)

I've read that viewing a HDR master in SDR format skews the colour grading, so it wouldn't appear teal in 4K HDR. But I dont have the tech to view it and Disney ain't in Ireland yet to test it anyway!
