@@cdeer17 exactly this, the US lost the war in Vietnam and instead of harboring any resentment, the government has made significant efforts to cool tensions because China is a greater threat to Vietnam’s sovereignty and US interests in the pacific. It does not meant the two nations are “allied” but without the US countering China, Vietnam would surely be at risk to Chinese aggression….and vice versa assuming Vietnam did something against US interests *and* China was not a concern.

This is stupid. Being a super powers means every one would be happy and shocked at the same time. Happy cause now a new power can take its place and new deals implemented. The biggest shocker will come form EU as they are dependent on the US for their security as they literally have nothing. Also Japan wouldn’t give much of a crap as they have their own problems and will actually see this as an opportunity to become the main power house in Asia, as they wanted.
