28:15 My theory: He has an ELO of 1800 which is pretty high (assuming the ranking is similar to AOE2) So he probably used a troll strategy where he just mindlessly spammed swordsman in your base to test for how long you would last. Then he saw you killing his eco so he was like "nooope" and built towers all over the place. In the end he saw you actually starting to beat him, so he switched to a proper strategy and made cav and catapults since you became too dangerous to troll. He made the match really interesting instead of just destroying you and ruining all the fun. Would love to see more vids on Age of Empires. Love your vids

(Sorry if I did mistakes, I'm a French speaker - and please correct me if I say nonsense or if my advices are bad) From my aoe1 gamer's experience I think you played really well. You did quite well on military and the way you played was fun to see ! However, and I saw people saying this : your economy was not enough to bear your military strategy. I mean he had enough production to create that amount of light infantry, he used a "good" strategy because he knew you didn't have a lot of archers. He had a very agressive strategy because he had a good economy. What he did and that you didn't do, I guess, is that he rebuilt his economy before taking his "revange". When you play with archers you need a lot of them, so you need more villagers. I used to create 25/26 villagers, 7 on food, 9 on wood, 5/6 on gold and 4 on rock when I played archers (I don't know if it's a good ratio but I remember it worked on my brother and on hard IA), and you need to build stockpiles next to ressources to increase your villagers' efficiency. Also you need to improve your techs to fight equally with your opponent. I used to create a lot of towers, I know proplayers don't build much towers, yet I am a noob so I think it's really helpful - more specifically during early game to prevent rush attacks with light cavalery - (I don't know if walls are helpful, but to me they are). Finally you probably need to train a lot, because you gotta go fast, maybe faster than in ao2. PS : I reaaly enjoy your videos ! - You speak clearly (so that I can easily understand what you say) - You're nice, you don't get angry or upset etc, so it's relaxing - You're fun !

A nice surprise! A fun battle too. I think you could have won if you built multiple production buildings (makes amassing an army and recovering from battle faster). Also having a few priests to convert infantry and heal your archers could have been nice, and maybe catapult triremes to hit his buildings from the sea.

Just found out that all the Definitive Editions will now be released on Steam - hopefully helping with the longevity of the series + patches.

Honestly i think a big reason that you lost is you didnt continue to build storage pits closer to the tree line. By the end of the game your workers had to run a long way to collect wood, which is very important for chariot strategies. You played really well though!

What hurt you the most was the travel distance required for wood cutting. They spend more time walking than cutting, if you placed a storage near the forest, it would boost you a lot

You did pretty well. You could have sent your chariots through to hit his economy way sooner, right when you were stopping the weak flow of swordsmen, I would've sent at least 5 chariots through his base. That, and make siege sooner, and make sure he couldn't keep running his eco below the main base. Also, try to rebuild storage pits to keep your eco efficiency up. Great to watch aoe 1!

I think your military strategies were awesome. But I think what crippled you the most was your lack of villagers and therefore your economy. From watching tons of AOE 2 content one thing is very clear: Build villagers non stop until you have the right amount (for AOE1 it's less of course) and place the stockpiles close to the resources (that means you have to rebuilt them constantly if the villagers are quick in farming them) And with the right amount of resources you can tech into iron age and get all the good techs.

Your problem is that you don't seem to sort your economy out. You need to boom your economy more!

Answering your question of last time, yes AoE DE uses the same original engine(Genie Engine) of AoE1 used in 1997. I think that Forgotten Empires, honestly did a great job with an engine that old.

I love what Microsoft is doing. We still need to fix the graphic of the elephant archer, matchmaking AND new/unique units. Maybe a couple of civilizations too like Mauryan, Celtic, Etruscan, Parthian, and Olmec.

50 pop. AoE is so nice & qualitative (because the game was designed to be population capped at 50), it needs to be promoted more by MS.

The delays I get while playing this game online is worse than anything I have ever encountered while playing online... and for the longest time I have blamed my bad portforwarding skills. But watching your video I can see that it is not a problem on my end. Why does games always delay though?

Hi i dint realize its 50 PoP made like 45villagers and can only make 10 army swords man. as swords man are half towards pop limit ( all my eco is in fishing ships in the end to make army i killed my own villagers as i cant gather enough army to beat you so i kept allowing my army to die while i easy iron.

The dude should have just ecoed the whole time instead of spamming swords to their deaths. Plus he should have unit variety.

i don't know, that dude looked more like a bot to me with a massive economy.... 0 micromanagement, just sending in those swordsmen like meatshields without any thought.... i took him 25 minutes to realize how to counter those chariots... literally the first thing that went through my head, once the first attack failed, get cavalry ... no he send in about 100 more swordsmen in....

You played bad, man. You need to stockpile a lot of food and wood, building at least 3 or four Town centers. And press with chariots and reaching iron age. In IA you needed balista. He used Choson or Romans strategy. And you should have spammed more villagers and ships. BTW, thanks for the video.

OMG your eco was awful. Getting housed early and failing to replace the lost villagers was the reason you lost. Weak food eco means you cant build units and advance to iron. Lots of idle villagers... Learn to manage your eco and you will do MUCH MUCH MUCH better going forward. Too many vils on stone. You dont need towers as his units can walk past them and harass your eco. Only build towers in your base if you wall. If you dont wall then 3 guys can walk past your towers with ease. You forgot to advance important technologies. You also forgot to vary your army composition. You saw massed infantry so you should have added some cavalry to tank and disrupt them so that you dont need to micro your archers too much. 1 or two priests would have reduced his army and made yours slightly stronger. Also heals. WOLOLO. Aside from that the general Assyrian chariot rush was fine. Very viable strategy. Just dont forget to upgrade and advance to the next age. As a general rule of thumb, when you get bronze age, build some cavalry if your civ can do so. This Protects you against slinger defences who DESTROY your archers. Good luck on your next game and practice eco management

lol You need to improve too much on strategy games, counters, economy, timings, micro, macro, composition, counter attack, sim city, and that is the easy stuff, the hard thing is to keep doing that with good APM and keep the exploring, READ the enemy and counter him, keep reading and keep countering. Your micro/multitask/macro etc was bad, good thing you know You are not great though, You could kill him after the first rush but You afked your units in your base.... And you said "I did good multitask and desitions" lol

Hot key can burn in hell anything use without just fast play is bull sh@t and this is why i never played multiplayer games hate them not a loser if they can use hot keys loser are those who do so. You clearly out did him in normal play but we all know fair game play is not even a part of multiplayer game good game your the better player. Only thing i would say is okey as a hot key is group units this was a normal in the old days.
