khatack the slingers are a nice counter to Chariot archers, and fully upgraded they win 1v1 most times. The slingers were historically much more powerful, though, I'm sad they're such a niche unit. They had accuracy up to 200 yards with firepower that rivaled modern pistols. Sucks that they're basically ranged clubmen in this game.

I used to be exp in 2010 mass slingers and Bowman plus calvaries cheap vs expensive but not always work but it is a good mechanism to defend it.

Its pretty cheap, and even if you cant play humans, the AI is much better

What? No. Single player is available. Campaign is completely playable and you can play single player random maps or scenarios with the AI. This isn't the Beta, it's released. I even play some of the campaign and cast an AI-only match on this channel.

Yeah some of my earliest online gaming was AoE1 in the 90s. Definitive Edition is pretty decent now, good time to get in. First year was rough.

The DE version has been rebalanced though. It takes a lot of changes from Upatch HD and continued to balance things further. The old guides might work in classic mode but not DE mode.

To get what on screen? I use OBS Studio. I would use Streamlabs OBS but that's still missing some key features that I need like recording separate audio tracks for my voice and game audio.

Yeah, I was initially worried that he'd ruin my economy, but then saw Bleahster wrecking yellow, and then I knew I just had to clear brown's army as much as possible and live until it's a 2v1.

When you have so many factions, if you make every unit look different it becomes very difficult to recognise them as players. Imagine if the Settler in Civilization looked different for every single civ. It would be super confusing trying to recognise whose settler or builder is whose or even if they are settlers. Now imagine in an 8-player free for all and all 8 factions send a mix of short swordsmen, broad swordsmen, and long swordsmen since they're all at different tech levels, each one looking different to 8 different civs. It'd be impossible to know what's going on. The solution is to make the design all the same so you can just look at colours. Easy to see red, blue, yellow, etc. You can make units look different if you limit the number of civs. It works in Starcraft because there's only 3. Same in Age of Mythology, only 3 or 4. Once you get to 10+ civs, in this case 12, it becomes too much visual information.

@@karwinchau4684 Yeah it's nice to see generally, but you can't do it too much. Even in AoE 2 generally it's just the unique units that look different. Militia look the same across all civs for example.

Yes you do, though they have glitched out once in a while. Once I set some units to control group 22 somehow, if only I had a '22' key on my keyboard haha. Happens rarely though.

Thanks! It's laggy because I'm connecting to people from all over the world. If you stick to people from your region it should be much better. More multiplayer on the way though!

Lag can be bad but it's because I'm playing with people from all over the world. Ping is based on where the players are, but overall it's quite stable.

Yeah but seeing at the end at his economy, it was so single minded I don't think he was even able to change it at that point. It kinda shows that attempt at meta game but a complete lack of adaptability.

It depends. AoE 2 DE and AoE 1 DE would just be different games. This AoE 1 DE has major issues with AI and classic mode isn't available for multiplayer or campaigns yet. If you're not rushing, I'd wait for classic mode at least.

Ah it's because of game 1 where the chariot archers ran past everything and got me from the back. So in game 2, instead of focusing on choke points, I was building a killing field where I could retreat my villagers through the towers, luring the chariots to their death.

GamerZakh yeah as the game went in I saw it made sense for the situation, I was a little bit guilty of commenting too quickly XD though I personally would of still advocated more towers around your villagers I can't fault your logic I guess, really like your vids!

Oh in the original AoE 1 you couldn't have building waypoints, so oldies would continue playing like that. In the definitive edition mode, you can have building rallies to gather your units somewhere when they spawned.

What do you mean? You can buy the game now and play it, it's released. You need an Xbox Live account to just log into the game, but it's not like a subscription or anything. Just make an account and sign in, like making a Paradox account to sign in to Paradox games.

I was trying the tactic that I saw in the first game, plus I picked Assyrian because I wanted to go for archers, then I noticed he wasn't getting upgrades, so I knew my chariots were better than his. Plus, don't camel riders cost gold? I was struggling to find my gold at all.

I'm super unlucky when it comes to resource spawns haha. In a multiplayer Stronghold match I streamed, for some reason I was the only one in the 2v2 that didn't have any iron in my base.

Yeah, I make it a point that I'm bad. There are plenty of pros out there to watch, I enjoy making casuals feel more comfortable trying because it's scary jumping into multiplayer.
