7:10 CORRECTION🙆🏼‍♀️ Total stopping distance column in km/h table should read: TOTAL STOPING DISTANCE(m) 15.24 20.95 27.43 34.67 42.67 51.43 60.96 Sorry for the confusion I guess I didn’t check the km/h table 🦅🇺🇸

Its great that you're still trying to learn. A lot of people once they get confident on the road think they've mastered the hobby but every weekend I still go to a lot and practice drills cause once you stop you get rusty. In addition to emergency stopping another thing you could practice is swerving and once you've gotten comfortable with that incorporate your stopping into it. But one of the things I don't see talked about is if you need to emergency brake so will the person behind you (If there is a person behind you) and they might not be able to stop in time, so I also do a hard stops into a turn and take off towards the left or right. Stay safe out there.

Great video, Gabi! The easiest way for me to learn emergency braking (without ABS) was to intentionally make the back tire skid so I learned exactly how much pressure I needed to use on the back brake before it locked up. Once I learned the feel of the back brake, I was able to focus more on squeezing my front brake. It's different on different bikes with different center of gravities, but for me, I'm able to absolutely squeeze the heck out of my front brake and completely dive my front end down as much as possible (all in a controlled environment) that way I know exactly how my bike will move in these scenarios. I also have a Rebel 500 like your friend. Keep up the good work and ride safe!

Doing good. You didn't say but implied you have ABS. You can feel ABS activate. Its a rhythmic thumping in the pedal or lever. If you never feel that, you are leaving a lot of stopping power on the table. Brake harder until you feel it, then back off a hair. You have it dialed in when your stopping an feelings that every few times but usually not. Your friend without ABS, that makes braking a harder skill to master. You can push the rear untill a skid, then back off to find that line. But doing it with the front, that will make you close friends with the pavement. Not that you cant stay upright after a front tire skid. I have a video where I did just that when a deer crossed the road in front of me. So it can be done. But its not something I want to practice an a brand new rider shouldn't. That makes figuring out how fast you can safely stop on a non-ABS bike a bit of a guessing game. Grip strength is something you will acquire as you ride. But grip strength exercise machines are stupid cheap. If you get one, get an adjustable resistance one. Your off balance stops are all because your bars are turned. Its a geometry problem built in to all motorcycles. If the bars are turned as you stop using the front brakes, the bike wants to fall over. But you need to turn them to not fall over too. Its not a you issue. Releasing the front brake at the last second fixes it. But thats not an option in a panic stop. We just have to square the bars as much as we can an deal with it. Almost dropped my bike on mothers day because of this. It is what it is. Your doing shockingly good on the U-turns. That bike will turn much sharper though. If you watch videos on off road riding training or police bike rodeos, you will see them shoving the bike over in to a turn while they stay upright. Sometimes sitting on the side of the bike. Something that is not all that easy to just do. It just feels wrong. But theres a way to make it feel normal. In your parking lot work, if you alternate left an right, trying to push the bike over as far as you can, it begins to feel like a dance. You are the lead, directing the bike an letting the bike dance under you. Back an forth. Once you get the feel of the dance, the lean will keep getting steeper to the point you start to hear your pegs dragging. Then a very tight U-turn feels normal. Its just that dance.. You start near the middle of the road, lean right, then lean left hard an hold it there. At the point you are normally just starting the turn at the edge od the road, you are now in a full lean, drastically tightening the U-turn. Thats the real point of all those cone weave exercises. No one is dodging cones on the road. They are trying to teach you how to dance.

Yeah, I guess I should have mentioned that I DO have ABS lol. If the volume on the stopping videos was a little louder you could probably hear it engage when I come to a stop. Although, usually just in the rear. My friend is at a slight disadvantage (at least while learning) without ABS, but she is a badass and figuring it out quick. In one of my next vids we practice more together and talk a bit more about braking without ABS so this is a great tip thanks! We also did some tight turns and offset weaves so thanks for the Uturn advice in advance! And working on grip strength is a good idea. I’m also trying to go to the gym more which will help hopefully 😂 Ah dang yeah it’s hard to not do a little wiggle, the handle bars seeem squared, but introducing a little force with pulling brake/clutch makes it difficult to not input a slight turn. Thanks for the helpful comment. I appreciate it! ✌🏻💜

Well done! The only advice I really have to offer is to wait on pulling the clutch lever in until the last moment, the engine braking will save you an extra metre or two so having that late clutch input become muscle memory can really make the difference (In an emergency sitiuation), but other tthan that yu're doing really great! Keep practicing and please stay safe!

You’re doing great! This is a bit more advanced, but it is also a good idea to practice emergency brakes while in a curve, once you master stopping in a straight line. Same concept, except you need to stand the bike back upright before laying on the brakes. Braking while the bike is leaned is a very bad idea. They made me practice those during my closed course riding school, they set the cones up in the parking lot to mimic a light curve.

The key here is “emergency breaking” pull in the clutch, front break, and rear break equally and hard while leaning back, all the talk about engine breaking, and using different amount of force is silly, under stress fine motor skills go out the window so the simplest thing to do is what your after..
@gaabbiio
@gaabbiio 13 күн бұрын
All good things! But yeah I guess the idea is that using different forces can be helpful if you start skidding or loosing control of the bike to regain control, I agree that it is hard to react in emergency situations with fine motor skills.. but if you have the muscle memory wouldn’t that give you at least better chances?

@@gaabbiio It will come naturally with enough seat time. Eventually your bike could feel almost like an extension of yourself, but it takes many many miles and lots of oil changes to get there. Don't use all fingers when breaking, you would be just building a bad habit. On the other hand the final progression should be when your back wheel is slightly lifted at the stop, if its not its an indication that there is still room for harder breaking. It will come with practice and hand muscles training :-) Btw you've got nice calming voice :-)

@operator0 13 күн бұрын
I don't know anything about track days for motorcycles, but I would not recommend a band new driver do a track day in a car, and that's with an instructor riding shotgun. I have seen advanced driving courses for teenagers, but they never get on the track. It's mostly just low speed autocross type stuff in the paddock. If they have something like that at a motorcycle track day for new riders, then yes, I would suggest that.

07:06 - I HOPE that chart is off - WAY OFF. (I don't (yet) ride bikes, but I'm considering it, that's why I'm here to learn from you!). I am an experienced driver (car and truck), I know a modern car will likely outbrake a motorbike, but from 40 km/h there's no way it'd take 92 metres (slightly over a hundred yards!! (300 feet)) to stop. In an average car, braking distance from 40 km/h should be around 9 metres (10 yards). "Reaction distance" - which can be a great variable (depending on the person, the conditions, and the day...), would generally be estimated at 8 metres (3/4 second), for a total stopping distance of 17 metres. From 80 km/h (50 mp/h) 344 metres to stop is equivalent to nearly FOUR FOOTBALL FIELDS!!! (but thanks for posting the vid - you're a great resource helping me to avoid making mistakes!)

At 40mph you should be able to pass through the gate and come to a complete stop in less than 80 feet, more like 65/70. 140 feet is way too far.
@gaabbiio
@gaabbiio 13 күн бұрын
Yeah I agree, this is very dependent on skill level and reaction time though. In that table the braking distance is 80ft, with a 60ft reaction distance (which seems high to me for sure). I think 80 is a good starting point while trying to minimize the reaction time until you can get down to the 65/70 that you suggested. Thanks for the input!✌🏻
