Want to know how to build a Warhammer model but not sure how to do it? In this complete beginners guide to building your first warhammer model we will cover, what Warhammer hobby tools you’ll need, setting out a plan, through the entire step by step process of clipping out your parts, cleaning up the bits (including excess sprue and mould line removal), to putting them all together to a make completed warhammer miniature. Whether this is for Warhammer 40k, Age of Sigmar or any of the other games!
This video also Includes tips to make sure you have the best possible warhammer model you can before the painting stage. With a step by step guide to sub assembly for painting to gap filling in case you need to utilise these methods when you build warhammer models.
Let me know in the comments section below if you have any questions on the process or if you have any extra tips I've not covered.
Here is the link to the Warhammer instructions website in case you need to find any you're missing: / warhammerinstructions
If you have purchased some models from the secondary market and it didn’t come with any instructions - you can email gamesworkshop directly via this email custserv@gwplc.com and they’ll hopefully get back to you fairly quickly with a pdf of the instructions.

Great video! Been using Green Stuff to fill the gaps, never even knew about the Vallejo stuff in the tube, looks much easier to deal with - immediately went to Amazon to get some! Thanks mate!

Going to pick up some of that sanding sponge I didn't know existed, might throw a Vallejo Putty in the bag as well... awesome even for someone who has assembled hundreds of models :D

I use poly resin glue as it sticks super fast and I find other glues take too long to set. I will say never thought about the mold lines before but I'll be sure too now

That's fair enough - not sure I've tried that glue before, but might be nice to try out. Glad you got something out of this video - mould lines wise, if they are in places that noone is going to see, obviously you don't need to worry about them too much, but certianly something to keep in mind going forward. 👍

For sub assemblies does priming and painting them make it harder to glue them back together? My logic being the primer will be a layer on top of the plastic for when you go to plastic glue it. Also how do you remove the sub assemblies from the paperclip without damaging them? Do they snap off fairly easily? And lastly, if you put the sub assemblies together and there is a gap will you have to putty, sand, and redo the paint job?

Thank you for the questions I’ll go through each now and number them to help. 1. So when you stick the parts back to the model after painting them, you’ll want to use super glue rather than plastic glue as the latter will end up melting your paint job. You could if you wanted to, cover the connection area a little with some blue tack when priming the model so you have a clean connection point, although the super glue would still stick to the surface with paint on. 2. The paper clips do come out easily with a little bit of a tug. They’re strong enough to paint on depending how deep you drill, but certainly simple to take off. 3. I guess this would depend on the number of pieces you use here. My motto is generally to try and utilise the smallest amount I can, but typically its arms and heads for easier access and if they block the torso detail enough I couldn’t get a brush in. If I can build it fully I tend to. Hopefully with these you shouldn’t need to do any gap filling afterwards that would be noticeable, but if it is then you can paint the filler into the gap with a brush if you’d prefer to try and be as neat as possible to clean up afterwards. My suggestion there if you are going to use multiple pieces in a sub assembly - maybe add a small amount of blue tack to the connections when dry fitting just to see if any gap filling would be needed and if so you can make a decision there on how you’d like to tackle it. Sub-assemblies aren’t a mandatory step in model building, more if you’d prefer to work that way to potentially have more control when painting. Hope that was some help.
