For those bright lights or LED readouts in the house or anywhere, I came up w the idea to tape some paper over the display. Different things work for diff. applications - ie an alarm clock in your room, a battery readout like this etc. Toilet paper can work 1 or 2 ply, parchment paper is great - very sturdy stuff. Just use painters tape, holds forever, leaves no residue. I've not had it move on me in my house (bedroom) in nearly a year since I figured this out 1 night. LOL

This will be interesting to follow. I've thought about doing this as well as my box truck sometimes feels too big for day trips. I wish there was a modern equivalent of the vw bus, but there's not. These are smaller, but it's the closest thing. Most of the mini van builds I've seen have been functional and practical, but have an unfinished look. I've rung the bell so I can see how you finish it out!

Use heat shrink instead of tape to insulate the connections.. I tried to stick the refkectics with spray adhesie but in summer the metal gets hot and it gets soft..

Thanks for the RED BULB suggestion 👍 I am definitely taking notes...I need a larger vehicle though (I located a company that custom designs shelves and bathrooms inside your van, whatever you want) 😄For the past 3yrs or so I have been contemplating purchasing an RV however I do not want the bulkyness of a huge tanker like house on wheels😄and "A thriller horror movie made back in the 70´s or early 80´s makes me have 😵😭flashbacks about traveling in a huge bulky slow takeoff house on wheels" @MikePhillips Me too! Considered a Box Truck😄I saw a Box Truck video (a couple) live in it! It was okay but I would need contractors to create what's in my head I cannot do all of the work myself.... The bathroom in one of the custom vans was hilarious because it was in the back on the right and the toilet paper roll was attached to the back right door....Whenever the open the back doors the toilet paper hanging out in the open was too funny😂

Very useful video! I actually have the exact same led lights and thought I would have to purchase new ones because I only have an ac adapter to power them but you have shown me an alternative method! I see they don't draw too much power, how long can you power your lights for using the jackery if you don't mind me asking?

How long did your light strip work? I have seen they may have a shorter lifespan when hooking directly to a battery. Thank you great video.

A few things come to mind: 1) YOu mentioned wiring it into the cigarette lighter, but later in the video mention "two batteries." Car batteries are not designed to be run down and recharged over and over do you have a second house battery (like a golf cart battery or AGM) and battery isolator? 2) You will lose a lot of heat through the windows, so insulating the roof and sides (lower half) isn't going to help very much, if the windows are bare/only curtains or reflectix. Reflectix has almost no R value by itself, unless it's directly reflecting your body heat, which it will not do if it's covered up. Did you put anything behind the reflectix? 3)The red light info and sources for products is helpful thank you.

Hey Barb,Thank you for the great questions!! for your first point, That is why I recommend getting the voltage gauge as that gives you an accurate reading of how much charge is left in your battery, and not allowing it to go below 12.4 (50%), and also why I wire a second option off it to be powered from my jackery 240 (could also be an AGM, or deep cycle.) the answer to your second point is covered in this video I made ( kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qJOVfKeKvJ_FfoU.html ) on how to make window covers, I use a combination of reflectix and rigid foam to create simple blackout window covers that pop in and out easily, their R value is 5.5 which is pretty decent in such a small space. Nice work! Hope all is well in your van nowadays. I'm kinda bummed though. You edited the part out where you got a + - out of the LED strips. How exactly did you expose the 2 wires from the LEDs? Where did you cut?

Thanks, wish I had included that, but it is quite simple, most LED strips have lines every 5 LEDs where you are able to cut, when you cut the line it exposes a + and - pieces of copper, and our can solder wires onto that.

Probably too late, but reflectix needs airspace to actually work, or it has an r rating of maybe one, plus the windows, it will effectively do nothing sorry to say :(

So you have insulated "everything" yet you have large windows through which you loose large amount of heat. BTW if you want to be trendy, make sure you use words like vegan, solar and locally sourced in every video. Your video The Reality of VanLife was interesting to watch. Please don't end up like some of those pretentious wannabee posers.
