I am also building a L29 with this cam setup. One thing that I ran into on the valve keepers I talked to Comp Cams and they gave me a different part number that works it's 616-16. They raise the retainer +0.05 so the spring retainer doesn't bottom out on the guide. When I looked at the retainer is it only gave me the Crower locks which Crower deleted that page that you are sending people to or the titanium ones that are like $200. The Comp CCA 616-16 are only $23 half price from the Crowers valve retainers. Thanks for posting these videos a lot of awesome information can't wait to see it run.
@DickHamm

@williamanderson4706
@williamanderson4706 4 жыл бұрын
The valve came together but I was putting it together with my cylinder head guy the top of the valve is barely under the top of the retainer. So under RPM If it pushes that retainer down and those locks come out, bye-bye to the engine catastrophic failure. So the cylinder head guy turned 5 thousands off the top of the guide and we used Comp Cam number Cca 612-16.

Is it better to build Gen 6 vs Gen 5? With huge customizing? Which is better block and why.. thanks so much for your Knowledge , time and videos. !
@jondahl3173
@jondahl3173 3 жыл бұрын
Gen6 block is roller cam and 4 bolt, some Gen5 replacement crate motors use the same block but with a flat tappet cam. If you get a cam grinder who can maximize lift w/o changing the base circle, you can run close to .600 lift with the factory hold down setup. I'd recommend using an aftermarket lifter if you do this. Any BBC head will bolt to the block, but it takes a special head gasket to use early heads. Felpro has it. Large cams and stock cast pistons will not work together, unless you plan on fly cutting the pistons, especially the intake relief. That's about it for now.

@c0c0asauce
@c0c0asauce 3 жыл бұрын
From what I've read the stock valve springs are too strong at low lift and too weak at high lift for most aftermarket cams. I might be wrong about the specifics but general consensus is the stock valve springs suck. I plan to replace them when I do a cam on my L-29.
