In this video we get to hear the budget Gen VI L29 454 that James put together come to life. The factory zz502 hydraulic roller camshaft sounds great! Thanks again to James for having us over at his house, he is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to these engines.
*There is a very similar motor in his Gremlin which you can see making passes on a previous upload here on the channel**

Notification squad! That big block sounds real good man! That's a pretty awesome home built test stand that he's got. Super smart way to use it to break in cams and new engines. So you have real easy access to everything without having to lean into an engine bay.

These area animal engines, I use mine Daily in my 99 Suburban 2500 . 196,000 miles of super hard usage. Does nothing but work pulling my car trailer and construction equipment, campers you name it..When it retires it will be pulled and used in a 1953 gasser I am going to build in a couple years....Easy 500 hp with minimal work...Great job on the video, sad these motors get passed by.

Just found out today that my 454 that I tore part was junk at the machine shop, it had 4 spun bearings. I wanted to build a motor for my C10 and get it running before I graduate, but with less than one year to do that... I’m probably just going to get a 350 that’s running, and throw it in so I get to enjoy my Truck for a year.😕

@cfrank925 3 жыл бұрын
The big block 454's were produced in different years which is why they have gen versions. Gen 5 changed the cooling design, had 8:1 compression and were all 4 bolt mains with peanut port heads. The gen 6 has oval port heads and a roller cam from the factory, which makes more power. I don't know much about gen 1-3 since I have a gen 5.
