Complete Paving Project: From Excavation to Asphalt Installation (Pt. 3/3)

This is the last video of our three part series backyard and paving project. This video focuses on the paving asphalt driveway portion of the job. You will see us excavate the driveway, prep the driveway with gravel, and pave the driveway. We also have some footage at the end of us sanding the interlock that you would have seen us install in the backyard in Part 2 of this series. This step completes the fire pit, waterfall, pond, patio area.

I’m a paver been doing it for 26yrs now I have to say great job. My only question is why you never put a concrete rectangle catch basin, the length of the garage drainage pipe obviously buried under the ground outtake towards the lake with the slope coming from the road, you would’ve had less headaches trying to sloping away from the garage i’m only suggesting this because you already had the driveway excavated and I’m assuming 18 inches before you came back in with your a gravel just something to think about

I really appreciate your compliment and I like your question. To make sure we are on the same page, is your question simply asking me why we didn’t slope the pavement towards to garage floor and install a drain in-front of the garage floor catching the water?

@@capitalasphalt yes something of been thinking about trying i’ve had a couple of jobs like the one you did where we sloped away but on a big, heavy rainfall, some water still goes in the garage

That’s a wicked compliment 🙏🏼🙏🏼 thank you thank you!! Our Crew is definitely 💯! I couldn’t agree more, we are lucky to have the crew we got! It’s a great question asking about putting a rototilt on our smaller Yanmar, the answer is, I don’t think it’s very likely something we will invest in. Having a rototilt is extremely handy and can/will save you money and make your job easier and more efficient. However, they do come at an significant expense, and I don’t think I can justify the expense of putting one on a smaller machine and see confidently It would be worth the investment.

Did you consider adding a channel drain along the garage entrance?

Great question, yes I did. However, we were able to achieve a great slope away from the garage that made me confident water will not enter the building. We live in Ottawa, Canada and channel drains are great, but up against a garage “if” they freeze 🥶 then your in trouble.
