It proves they have average mammal intelligence and can be trained. The _scientific case_ for exceptional intelligence in cetaceans is surprisingly weak. It’s a popular belief in our culture that everyone states and goes unquestioned, even by some scientists who know better.
@Obi-Wan_Kenobi
@Obi-Wan_Kenobi 3 жыл бұрын
@@darkprose The scientific evidence is not weak. Language has been observed in whales, they have high brain function and development than the vas majority of mammals, have complex social structures, and react to their environment in ways no other animal does. So yes, orcas are smart and there is an abidance of scientific evidence to prove it. The fact that they are captive had provided for more scientific study than other animals and the fact that stye can be trained so well is even more proof that they are smarter than most other animals. Training requires receiving, understanding, and responding do commands. That's all scientific evidence too.

Some people are probably going to hate my opinion about this, but I'm going to share it anyway. @@NyYannaPlays because every scientist and animal psychologist can tell you. Plus how would you feel locked up in your room for the rest of your life, being used to entertain another species, with loud sound effects 24/7. They have thousands of miles in the wild/ocean, but only a tiny pool in sea world. Sea world is animal abuse and should be illegal. Everything who thinks otherwise doesn't believe scientists and is simply blind. It is proven that orcas are incredibly social animals that even have their own language and dialects. If a mother orca loses her baby, she will feel sorrow for weeks, transporting the dead body with her. In the ocean they find their own social groups, in sea world they are forced to live within a group that they probably can't even communicate with, due to the different dialects they have in their sound system. Whales in sea world where showing signs of depression by smashing their heads against the walls, they destroy their teeth by biting into the concrete walls. Swimming in circles isn't natural behavior either. Orcas are one of the most intelligent mammals in the world. Orcas "see" through their ears, meaning that with the loud music and human sounds, it is literal torture for them. If you really "love" those animals, you would see the problem here. Otherwise if you visit sea world you either don't care about animals or you just don't know about those facts.

@@NyYannaPlays How am I denying science when I am giving you information from scientists? There are scientists who are doing research on orca language and it is possible to understand patterns. Also what is your argument that we don't understand their language? My point was that they have different dialects and can't communicate among each other. It's sad because you seem to be very manipulated by the entertainment industry, or you are very young. It's sad because as long as people exist who don't look at the hard scientific facts, we will continue to exploit and torture animals. You don't seem to be able to give me reasonable arguments why wild animals shouldn't stay in the wild but be encaptured for fun instead.

It probs had to do with his past. Rest assure you, I'm no orca trainer. I still on to that dream of mine and Tilly originally came from Sealand of the Pacific which was another marine park in Canada and he was branded as a very aggressive male bull orca. Not to mention treated so poorly there. But I don't see Tilikum as this aggressive whale with an insatiable hunger for human flesh and blood. There some folks who see him as a gentle giant. I dont even know what to say more, all of these comments are stupid. One this video is more towards a women who lost her life, but also anyone who works with these animals, KNOW they can die. Secondly, Tilly was taken years ago, an he actually helped, because he helped repopulate. Everyone has their opinions, some have opinions who are probably 16. No one knows how these mammals feel, but Dawn loved them, they are known for killing mammals so I don't understand why people were surprised, most if not every worker knows what they are getting into. But no everything's changed. Just know ALMOST every Orca is now raised there and if they go into the wild they will die. Instead of taking your own beliefs, why not just think about facts cause no one knows how they feel. Cause clearly if they hated there life they wouldnt do the tricks or anything. They are smart and they know they are performing.They get food more than just during the shows. Like really you all need to look your facts up. If they werent happy they would eat or try to eat all the trainers, cause there wet suits look like seals!

Facts! I was livid when they stopped the show believe. They literally did the impossible with this show and changed so many lives. Stopping the breeding program when orcas are almost endangered species, especially out in the wild they have a less than 50% chance of survival. Because we had workers at Seaworld with world-class care and veterinary staff we know much more about them and how to preserve them in the wild. The wild is a very brutal place, as far as the Orcas born in captivity I’m sure they much rather be with their trainers Who they have known for decades and trust. You were right they would die in the wild, they get hand fed food all day long, they don’t know how to hunt anymore. Caicos died from that movie free Willy they set him free and he couldn’t make it out there. He ended up following boats instead of catching fish, he swam past his family just to find humans. I’m sure he felt confused and abandoned. At the end of the day we don’t know what these wells want because clearly we can’t speak to them but I know Seaworld loves the Orcas and I’m very sad they stopped the breeding program

I am disgusted. Instead of idiot shows like this, Seaworld should open a sea sanctuary for the captive whales, reunite the families and let them finally be - they do deserve it! At least, the breeding program seems to be over so the whales in captivity are hopefully the last - no more suffering. But even these whales deserve a so called sanctuary which is much, much larger and where they can have some semblance of life.
