Thank you so much for demonstrating that not every picture needs a completely page covering background. So many postings of these books seem to have two levels of work: beautiful coloring of the actual picture and just a mess of unnecessary color blotches behind them. Of course, sometimes backgrounds do complete the picture but sometimes they do not. Again, thank you.

Glad it was helpful. Backgrounds can be beautiful, as you say, but if I am not feeling it then I move on. As Johanna herself says sometimes the picture just needs to breathe.

This is one of my favourite Johanna Basford books. It has smaller designs for when you don't have much time and bigger ones to go to town with. It's the perfect combo.

Hi...I have a huge number of these adult colouring books including a couple in this same range. I do it for colour therapy/relaxation because of suffering with depression and anxiety. I prefer to use Gel Biro pens...always felt they would be more colourful than colouring pencils...I think you may have changed my opinion looking at your completed books. Stunning! Thank you for sharing!

Thank you so much and so glad that colouring helps you. I think you get an immediate splash of colour with a pen but with some pencils you need to layer them up to get a vibrant result. Depends very much on teh brand, so do your research before buying!

@@RachelHendersonColouring oh I’ve already found sooo much to learn from you. You often mention other artists who’ve done amazing work. Well I managed to hear then trace Chris Cheng but I CANNOT find Cherry colours/colors and Black Enari well I found a very few of her vids on KZfaq but not the one you referred to. Could you possible give me links for those two and in future considering posting links to other colourists when you mention them? I really appreciate you’re English…me too.

Thank you, I have not worked much since the book came out so had plenty of time to colour. I loved it so much I could not put it down!! I also found that using different brands of pencil made each page different and fun.

Thank you. I found the paper a bit smooth and so soft pencils smudged a bit. So polychromos and ergosoft were probably the best for that paper

I’m new to your page. I am loving your tutorials and completed works. Can you tell me what pencils/colors you used for the blue and white bicycle? It reminds me of blue willow China and I love your interpretation of that page. Thanks you! I am learning so much from you :)

Thank you very much, so glad that you are enjoying the videos. The bicycle was done using Arteza premium pencils and I think it was the denim and indigo blue (basically the darkest two shades) plus the charcoal gray.

I used soft pastels from Mungyo and mine do not have colour names, so a dark blue, purple, purple/pink. pink and yellow

Thank you! I was not working and coloured every day almost all the time and I have the blisters to prove it! Such a lovely book, I was obsessed and could not leave it alone!

No, I leave them as they are. I never go back and add a background afterwards, if I do not do one at time of colouring I just leave it.

Thank you. The spreadsheet was extremely simple! Just two columns one with a description of the picture (they were in the order they appear in the book) and one with the pencil brand. If the page had little pictures on it, I just listed the brands in the order the pictures were on the page. That was it, very simple!

Hi there new subscriber here. Your coloring is amazing. I love to color my entire life but not to this magnitude. Maybe one day. I also have never finished an entire book. That’s a goal for me. Are you using all pencils? Cause those pages are double sided so I think would bleed through with markers. Thanks for sharing,

Hi, thank you for subscribing and for the compliments about my colouring. I use mainly pencils, but some chalk pastels and some pens. I use Staedtler fine liners on occasion which do not bleed through if you are light handed. I also use Posca paint pens and gel pens and they do not bleed through either. There is a test page in the back of the book which I use to check before I use pens. Good luck with your goal of completing a book!

Your coloring is gorgeous. I’m working on the US ed. of World of Flowers and my first thought when you opened a book that is still in ONE PIECE is that I am just NOT buying any more US editions of Johanna’s books….they COMPLETELY fall out of the “binding.”

Thank you. I have heard about this problem. The UK editions are sewn and glued so stay together well.
