Hurt is one of the greatest bands, that never got the credit they deserve. Their albums Vol 1 and Vol 2 are just masterpieces.

They are criminally underrated. And demonstrated just superior EVERYTHING in the 1st 2 volumes.

This is a VERY edited version of the song, is missing lots of parts and transitions. The track Losing from that album, or House Carpenters are AMAZING. I really miss HURT, J's voice is so unique and powerful.

You picked the radio version, cuts a ton out, including some of the most important parts. It also makes the transitions more jarring and abrupt, usually there is some form of transition. At least check out on your own time the full version. And this song was pretty big on the radio. They were grouped in as nu-metal, but had so much more depth. Lead singer plays a lot of violin in their music. First few albums were amazing, so much variety from symphonic stuff to full on heavy, crushing stuff. Some much more experimental, long cuts on the albums, and some really completely out of left field stuff like “dance russe”

Hurt's "Vol. 2" album was really interesting, a lot of different textures, acoustic stuff and a lot of variety in instrumentation. Summers Lost and Ten Ton Brick are both fantastic - Better has one of the most underrated metal guitar solos I've heard too and has some great layering in it.

My buddy in high school was Hurt's biggest fan. I always thought of them as like TOOL swaddled in soft blankets. I like this song. I like the Abuse of Sid better. It gets a like from me either way.

I kind of see Hurt more as a band like Tool that has been beaten down into a nihilistic, melancholic depression. Tool is actually quite a bit more tongue in cheek and in many ways hopeful lyrically speaking in my opinion, in stark contrast to the running theme of Hurt’s albums.

This is an abbreviated version of this song by the way. There is a longer version which is better IMO. You should check out one of their songs where the singer plays his violin, like Fighting Tao.

This version is sub par...they chopped it up so much and didn't let the song breathe. And the most important verse was left out. The album version is so much better.

"Radio Rock" is a great term. This took me right to early 2000's seether/linkin park/staind/ etc. Which isn't a bad thing. I can enjoy it but, for me, I was getting heavily involved with metal and hardcore at the time so it always felt on the softer side for what I was listening to so I never paid much attention to it. But I can totes respect it!

Wasn't expecting to know this song, but it came back to me as I listened. I must have just heard it from listening to the radio so you're right calling this radio rock. I did enjoy this more than most of the radio rock I've heard. Was very emotive as you said.

It really wasn't 'radio rock'. Most of their songs are really long, and don't really translate over to radio well. This version is heavily edited and cut down, so as to be more radio friendly.

The full version of this song is much more unique and interesting. This is basically a radio edit that made it much more bland.

Welp, it's not full version of the song. Album version is 1 minute longer, and I think it delivers emotions in better way. Anyway... I regret, that these guys are not well known, cuz it's good quality music, with great vocals full of emotions. Check out also other songs of them like: Overdose; Summer lost; Abuse of SID; How we end up alone. I'm glad you dig 'em. I was hoping that you react to their music. I recommended them to you couple of times. Edit: Vocalist is multitalented - he's multi-instrumentalist ;) .

Very cool and interesting song. I agree with your analysis for sure. If I can recommend one for you, I just heard recently the band Aviations and they absolutely blew me away. Please check out their song Outliers. They have a new music video for it. It is a masterpiece, IMO. I would describe it more as a composition than a song. Most if not all members attended Berklee. Really well written song. Good stuff as always.

Not a terrible song but it definitely sounds like very typical 00s radio rock. It's slightly less bland/generic than most of those radio rock bands, but still isn't something I'd seek out to listen to.

Overdose and house carpenter are much more significant ventures of theirs. But ten ton brick was much more heavy, radio friendly. Won’t get your channel a ton of views most likely, but you should check it out on your own time. Their guitarist changed on their third album and i just kind of stopped listening after that.

To be fair, most of what I check out doesn't get me many views and I'm sort of proud of that. So there's a chance that the next time I check out Hurt it'll be one of those songs you requested.

@@CriticalReactions haha touché, especially after A week of this video being out and it still being so poorly viewed. This album and their next two were pretty freaking successful, so I’m surprised, although it’s not going to get many views from your regular viewers. But I imagine that this song, “ten ton brick”, and “falls apart” (which you’ve likely heard) would get you more views than their more deep cuts, but are both much more radio friendly. There is an acoustic version of “rapture” with just the guitarists from about a decade again that really showcases the harmony and the dynamics much more. But yeah, don’t pick ten ton brick for the deeper cuts. The other two I mentioned, along with the oft mentioned by others “abuse of Sid” are good showcases of more meaningful and dynamic parts, that try more to build in intensity gradually, although I could see you being bored by some. It’s probably not worth reviewing to you, but I could see you enjoying some of the other stuff if you checked them out on your own.

Just wanted to point out that their guitarist did NOT change on their third album. Paul Spatola is their guitarist until their 4th major label, or 6th album “The Crux.” Vol. 1, Vol. 2, and Goodbye to the Machine, are all phenomenal records, as is The Crux. If you were to check out another song I definitely think Overdose and House Carpenter are good choices, but I would also recommend “That (Such a Thing)” or “Danse Russe” if you want to hear the Vocalist’s Violin talent.

Overdose will always be my favorite. J is a great story teller but very cryptic, at the same time. There is often more than one meaning to what he is saying. Even talking to him, in person, he's normally not very direct. Alone with the Sea is a beautiful song. I prefer the Vol II version; a bit of an old love story and a bit of reflection on his personal demons. "With all this liquor I consume... there's no more beauty in this world..."
