In this episode, Laraine Durham shares her personal experience with GLP-1 medication, specifically compounded Tirzepatide and its impact on her weight loss journey. With an engaging and honest narrative, Laraine demystifies the world of compounded weight loss drugs, addresses the stigma surrounding obesity, and offers a firsthand look at the process and results of her treatment.
As someone who has struggled with weight for many years, Laraine candidly discusses the challenges she's faced, including the myriad of diets and exercises she has tried. With her experience, she emphasizes the importance of recognizing obesity as a chronic disease, rather than a simple issue of willpower or lifestyle choice. She provides details on obtaining prescription medications through telehealth services, shares cost comparisons between compounded medications and retail pharmacy equivalents, and discusses the role of compounding pharmacies in providing access to these weight loss treatments.
Laraine's personal tale is not just about weight loss; it's about finding a solution that works amidst a healthcare system often unaccommodating to those seeking medication-assisted weight management. Her narrative is filled with insights and practical information for anyone considering a similar path.

Red Rock is a good one , from what I hear. I actually tried to switch to them because their titrations = a less amount of liquid per dose. Keep us posted on your progress! Thanks for watching!😃

I am starting on compounded Tirzepatide as I can't get a refill of Zepbound. I am nervous about moving to the compounded version, and your video helped ease my mind. I am also using Hallandale Pharmacy, so hearing your experience is very helpful. Thank you and your husband for making these videos, and keep up the great work.

Perfect video! I live in South Florida not far from Hallandale. I get mine from my chiropractor office because I’ve gone there off and on for years and I trust her.

Great information, thank you so much for sharing! How often do you meet virtually with a doctor at Mochi?
@thedownsized
@thedownsized 12 күн бұрын
I can schedule as many meetings as I want, however I have only met with the dr once. I also talked about taking the compounded tirzepatide with my regular in person doctor at my yearly check up in March. Although she didn't have much to say about it.

Appreciate more people shining light on compounded weightloss meds....research is key because not all compounding pharmacies for this are the boogeyman.
@thedownsized

Exactly! Before I started I had no idea what a compounding pharmacy was. People should not be afraid of the idea.

@@thedownsized media has not helped. I've seen a lot of articles using terms like "copycat" or "knockoff" or "black market version" etc....very inflammatory and derogatory (imo almost purposely misleading language) to scare people. Like, there are some bad characters but the word they should be using to describe non-branded is GENERIC lol. Anywho, thanks again!

Great video. Just curious since your insurance doesn’t cover the medicine why did your husband decide to do the brand name vs compound?

This is Christopher - I have been working with my physician for the last few years on blood pressure, cholesterol, weight management and sleep apnea and in an abundance of caution the branded seemed like a safer bet. I see my doctor every two months and we continue to talk about it. I will probably be back on the compounded soon

I read where compounded pharmacy 503B are better regulated and more sterile.

Both 503a and b are regulated. My meds have come from Hallendale Pharmacy for my entire 6+months and I’ve been very happy with my results.
@thedownsized
@thedownsized 2 ай бұрын
This is. Christopher - I would not assume either is more or less sterile in fact sterility does not work that way something is either sterile or not. According to the FDA The FDA has designated 503B compounding pharmacies as those with outsourcing facilities that may manufacture large batches with or without prescriptions to be sold to healthcare facilities for office use only. Here is the info from the FDA on the two types www.thefdagroup.com/blog/503a-vs-503b-compounding-pharmacies?hs_amp=true

Ok, then why does only 503b compound pharmacies carry the CGMP designation? I would think another layer of oversight would be better, plus since they produce in large batches, the cost would be lower. Plus, I’vs read numerous reviews of Mochi Health and while some were positive, I found many were dissatisfied with the patient service or lack thereof, or the reliability of prompt deliveries, some being serious. I’m currently on Mounjaro for almost 2 years, have lost 40 pounds, am at my goal weight. I am on Medicare and they paid most of the costs until this January, where they refused coverage as I was insulin resistance and pre-diabetic. Paying full price now, I am looking for an alternative.

Fair to say that the API itself (active pharmaceutical ingredient) for the compounders is usually manufactured in China? 🤔

This is Christopher -Unless you have a source I would not assume that. While it’s certainly possible Chinese manufacturers make everything from the IPhone to most of the apple juice concentrate in the world. The active ingredient is made using recombinant DNA technology. Other ingredients include a buffer, an agent to lessen pain and prevent clogging, and water.

India and China are the largest manufacturers of medicines so there is a good chance that the active ingredients and excipients of any medicine originates from one of those countries. Compounding pharmacies don’t just buy anything. They ensure it is all certified, or they test it themselves.
