What's the deal with compressed air tanks?
There are lots of options when it comes to picking a compressed air tank for your paintball gun, you have to think about size, weight, brand, and color. Hopefully, this video can smooth out that decision.
➖Good Compressed Air Tank Options ➖
Tippmann 48/3000 ➡ pbrml.com/tip48
Empire 68/4500 Basic ➡ pbrml.com/emp68

Ninja 77/4500 SL2 ➡ pbrml.com/nin77
Ninja 68/4500 Grey Lite ➡ pbrml.com/nin68

Love the vids, you're doing a fantastic job! Wanted to add a few pieces of information realizing you likely left this stuff out to keep it simple for the audience that the video is intended for. First, a minimally significant comment - shot count from tanks can't be exactly stated as a function of the tank's size as it will vary depending on your gun's air efficiency, velocity, and even possibly the climate conditions of the day, so keep that in mind folks. All that said, I think the estimates you give using beginner to mid-level equipment on average sets the right expectations. I know you're not a fan, but I have not had any bad experiences with my four (4) Guerrilla Air (now, as you have pointed out, the company is called First Strike) tanks aside from a couple of very slow leaks that I have also had with some of my Ninja tanks. There are about 6 nice things about First Strike tanks: 1.) The price point tends to be lower than a few other companies 2.) They have a "super light" bottle option called "Hero" 3.) They offer burst disks in the reg nearly flush with the body so they can't dig into your arm 4.) They offer an adjustable reg similar to the silver collar on the Ninja V2 regs that allow you to adjust how the gauge and fill nipple line up 5.)They offer bottles that you can get re-hydro'd forever 6.) MOST IMPORTANTLY - the reg is much shorter than most compressed air tank regs which allows additional options for sizing and fitting tanks to the player and their equipment....for example, a smaller player might be able to have a larger size tank as a result of the bottle being closer to the ASA. The smaller reg also makes the tanks marginally lighter too when compared to others using the same bottle. *One point of caution is with some guns the reg is too short and can prevent the bottle from screwing all the way into the ASA, so players should check or ask about this before buying. All this said, the tank I use and like most is actually my Ninja SL 68 with the V2 reg Do wish it had First Strike burst disks though Last thing I'd add is for the beginner players you should show them where and how to read the date on the tanks so they don't buy a crap used one or ensure they select the freshest one from the store new. Sorry for the novel, hopefully it helps someone. Keep the vids coming, you're doing the sport a great service!

For sure on shot count, I think i typically say at least 1200 on 68/45. 1200 on any gun. Yeah all that stuff is great about GA/FS. I have probably sold/owned 80 of those tanks in the last 5 years. I keep trying and they keep having issues, I was told the Hero reg was better, but they haven't been. I'll bet about 15% of the ones Iv'e had, have had problems out of the box, brand new. 15% is high, when Ninja is probably 0.1% Totally should have talked about hydros more didn't even think about it!

I recently purchased a hardly used paintball gun and it came with a couple CO2 tanks. I'm not interested in running CO2 I want a compressed air tank, but I I don't want to spend a ton of money so I'm looking for a decent used one. I don't plan on using my gun a lot either, it's only to be used for scaring Garden destroying varmint. Some of the effing dealer around here just stand there and look at you when you beep at them from your car oh, I would like to train them that a beep from a car means a sting or three in the ass! lol

The size comparison between the regular 68, 68 SL, and the 77 SL was great and super helpful. I haven't played in about 15 years and just read about the 15 year lifespan of carbon fiber bottles... The 68 and 77 UL fit best for me but the weight savings of a 48/50 is so awesome. I used to have a 48 or 50 (forgot) but instead of a stubby shape it was longer and narrower to be closer in length to a 68. It was my all time favourite but eventually had to retire it after its second hydrotest

Question first off awesome video so no to my question I just purchased a valken m17 it uses a 13ci 3000psi tank can I use a tank that is over 3000 psi or will that damage my gun I know that the ci stands for cubic inch size of the tank and psi has to do with how much pressure so if I use a tank thats 48 ci at 3000 psi I'm ok but what if I use a tank that's like this for example Ninja Pro V2 68 ci 4500 psi Lite

Don't know if anyone has mentioned it, but there are also thread extenders for those guys that want a longer feel for a HPA tank but don't necessarily want a larger tank! I'm 6' 2" (approx), personally I do not use one of these but I also use a 77CI Ninja SL tank, which offers a little more length than a 68CI, for an example.

Question, are you able to use your own home compressor to fill the tank, for example like a Dewalt pancake compressor, so many options can be a bit confusing
@mrbarraclough1072
@mrbarraclough1072 3 жыл бұрын
No. The compressors you can buy at home improvement stores and would use for pneumatic tools (such as a pancake compressor) are far too weak, only generating 100-120psi, maybe 150psi at most. Filling HPA tanks requires specialized compressors that can generate 4500psi or more. These are the same compressors used to file SCUBA tanks. If you need to fill an HPA tank between trips to a paintball field, try a dive shop if you have one in your area. There are some smaller compressors you can buy to fill these, but even the cheap ones are a few hundred dollars or more and you usually have to have an ordinary compressor already to connect to them (the high pressure compressors take the 100psi output from home compressors and compress it further). Unless you are an airsmith who needs to be able to test markers in your shop, it's just not worthwhile.

Love this video! I was wondering though (since I don't find a lot of information about this) how you fill your HPA tanks. And how can you be self-sufficient in filling your HPA tanks? The only thing i've found was that you need a 4500 psi compressor, fill a scuba tank and then fill your paintball HPA tank with the scuba tank. Is that correct? What compressor would you recommend? Thank you in advance for the feedback!!
@PaintballRuinedMyLife
@PaintballRuinedMyLife 7 жыл бұрын
There are three main ways to fill HPA tanks away from the field. 1. Air compressor 2.Scuba tanks, filled at a scuba store 3. Shoebox compressor, the cheapest fully self-sufficient option.
@aarongentile7232
@aarongentile7232 4 жыл бұрын
@@PaintballRuinedMyLife I'm assuming the last option you wrote there ( shoebox compressor ) is using something that looks like a bicycle tire pump for basketball soccer ball but is able to put a much higher amount of air into something like a paintball tank or a PCP air rifle, which I THINK holds something like 4500 PSI--I THINK. Very powerful air gun
@mrbarraclough1072
@mrbarraclough1072 3 жыл бұрын
@@aarongentile7232 No, a Shoebox Compressor was a specific model of compressor specially designed to take a 100psi input and further compress it up to HPA levels without having to buy a more expensive SCUBA compressor. They were designed and sold by Tom Kaye, the former owner of Airgun Designs and creator of the Automag. Tom is now retired and true Shoebox Compressors haven't been made in years, but you can still find Chinese knock-offs.

(also, on your Kaos vid, I asked your opinion on the KD2. Have you heard many negatives about that marker? Seems like it's just a upgraded Kaos, which you recommend for a beginner. I was looking for something that I could grow into with a few extra bells than the Kaos). Thanks again for all the info and vids! Keep up the awesome work!

If I have a mini gs, and I use a tank with standard 800 psi output pressure, will it ruin the gun? The only reason I ask is because it says that the mini gs operates at low pressure.
@justinbarrier144
@justinbarrier144 5 жыл бұрын
Drew Smith - yes if your putting way more pressure then the operating pressure of the gun, you will blow your regulator / O-Rings and anything else inside that can be affected - the point of the newer guns low pressure is to minimize sound when shooting and to save air cause they work on a enclosed air system (well eclipse and stuff does) where back in the day when you shot all the excess gas would leave the barrel and leak out now the internals seal up after every shot trapping and using the gas ...

IF i have an Electric Gun and I use a tank that's 48/3000 will it have negative effects on the gun?

Nope, not at all. Only difference between these $200 tanks is the bottle. Any compressed air tank should be good.

Thank you for the video! It was very helpful, as usual, and extremely informative to a newbie like me. I just bought a hardly used Spyder mr1 (maybe shot 100 times, probably less) and it came with a couple CO2 tanks, but I don't want to mess with CO2 I want a compressed air tank (have a hand pump to refill air tanks cause I own a PCP air rifle) and I don't want to spend a hundred bucks + on a tank, especially considering I paid $35 bucks for the gun, Hopper, a couple of thousand paintballs, couple ball holders. Between the two guns I'm sure they will be shot less than 50 to 100 times per year. The paintball gun is just to shoot at the deer that come in the yard because I don't want to shoot them with the air it's way too powerful !! I've never owned the paintball gun before but I realize I'm going to need to do some maintenance on the one I purchased such as replacing the O-rings Etc. If you have a lead on any mr1 repair kits or used air tanks let me know please. Thanks again for all your info! 👍👍👍

You don't have to you could rent, most rental tanks are 48/3000 tanks, maybe good for 500 shots. If you want lighter and more shot you have to buy a tank.

Is there any way to adjust the nipple and gauge placement on the ninja ultralite regulator so the nipple is pointed down and gauge pointed up? Somehow that's how my shop set mine up when I get my carbon tank back then. Is the nipple longer on UL than prov2 any help is great appreciate. Thx

@PaintballRuinedMyLife 7 жыл бұрын
To change the alignment of the gauge/nipple you would need the Pro V2 or just dont screw you tank in all the way :) Off the top of my head I think the UL reg and the Pro regs use the same nipple

Would upgrading to a compressed air tank really make a difference when I’m using an entry level spyder that’s fairly old? (Should I wait until I make a step up in gun?)
@jblaze725
@jblaze725 5 жыл бұрын
It'll be lighter and give you more consistency and be easier to fill. Plus when you finally do upgrade to a newer/ better marker, you'll all ready have a good tank to use with it. The only plus co2 really has over hpa is you can get them filled at Dicks or places like that. Otherwise hpa is better in every way.

Dye riser Max $500 / Empire Ax 2.0 $400 -600 depends / mini ( ehh okay ) - best start up guns ... wont break the bank but you also remember to have to buy a nitrogen tank $60 cheap and heavy -$230 - best in the game SUPER light and a lot more shots / then a electric hopper again $80-240 Depending on how much you wanna spend you can go up to like $4000 for top of the line set ups like what pros use

I have a carbon fiber 684500 but I really can't think of why my friend who is new to speedball shouldn't just get an aluminum 483000; given that you can just fill between every match vs every other match.. I think I might just sell mine. Anyone have some input?

For sure, the main reason people have CF tanks to get more shoots in a single games and the weight. If the weight isnt a problem and getting more than 500 isnt a big deal go for the 48.
