I work down the street there isn't even a lot of black people it's mostly hard working Paisas. Compton is generally an okay neighbourhood these days as it’s nowhere near as poor or violent as it was back in the 80s/90s during the crack era. I’d say the sketchiest part of LA right now is actually downtown LA with all the homeless, drugs, mental illness, and overall unpredictability of walking around down there. Compton, East LA, Watts, and Ingelwood…if you mind your own business you’ll be fine

My aunt and uncle used to live 2 blocks from here in the "safe" part of the area. When I went to visit in the late 90's you would hear gunshots every weekend. Every once in a while I was there Friday, Saturday and Sunday. At least one night, each weekend you would here someone unloading a clip between midnight and 3 AM. Imagine being a kid and being waken up by gun shots. One time I heard a few gunshots at 1 AM. Then at 4 AM the same night multiple guns. It must have been people coming back for revenge.

I grew up in Compton, but I escaped the hood and moved to San Bernardino in 2015 to attend college at the Cal State here. Living here in SB for 9 years I gotta say its actually worse than comptom. I got out of one hood and unknowingly jumped right into another 😂

@@drippyent6872a few reasons. One, most people live in houses with front yards and back yards. It’s easier to stay at the house when you have a yard for people to congregate in. Two, west coast cities are very spread out and it’s not always easy to just walk to a corner store and post up. Three, people tend to drive a lot more so that’s why sidewalks don’t look as crowded.

@@drippyent6872 I don’t think so, in the late 80s and early 90s there were way more kids outside in LA rocking their colors and flags and everything, that’s what partly why the murder rate was so high. I think in general (not just in SoCal) people stay inside more these days because of smart phones, streaming, video games, etc. It’s easier now to keep yourself entertained at home. Back in the 90s all you had was TV and a maybe a Nintendo/Sega if you were lucky.

@@ghettovoicebox That would definitely be the best option if there was a way up. (I'm a little afraid when it comes to trying to get down from heights. lol) I'm sorry you had to experience that. I hope things are better for you now. I'm surprised there aren't even more homeless people the way food prices and rents have skyrocketed over the past few years. I've even worried about it myself. The value of the place that I rent has more than doubled. Fortunately, I must have a nice landlord. He has only raised my rent $25 a year. If he had been the ruthless type and went for the going rate, I'd be in trouble myself right now. Even so, I'm always on edge wondering when the ax is going to fall.

I would get off of work around 3am on the weekends and 1am on the weekdays and i would walk home and i would have to slightly walk through compton to get home.. Let's just say as a 21 year old 5'4 women, it was the most reckless thing i couldve done and will never do again. It's gotten so much worse :/
