This might not be anything to worry about or change. I just thought I would bring it up and see what people say.

from time to time I have the same issues with USB ports it usually gets worked out. Keep them coming good Video !

re external drives, recognized but not assigned a drive letter perhaps. Right click Windows on taskbar, 'Disk Management', probably sitting in there but not initialized/assigned 'unallocated'. When assigning a drive letter MAKE SURE you dont choose to format. That's my guess at least.

Well, it shouldnt download the driver on its own, now windows should have a generic driver depending upon the age of the video card. Most authentic drivers you will have to get on your own. Im a gamer, I do work in IT, but gamer is enough, and while i usually get a generic driver from windows, I always go to the website to get my own. From what you are telling me, that you go to the nvidia website and get a driver and that works, i truly do not see a problem. When i got the 3070 rtx, a couple of years ago, windows did not have a driver for it, it was too new, so all i got was a generic driver so that i at least had an image. I am now using a 4080 and didnt have an issue.

1, does your card need power? change the power cable you are using u should have more than one from power supply, 2, Go into bios and make sure you havent got it set to onboard graphics if you have a cpu with gpu on it, 3, If you have 2 PCIE slots try the other one, thats a last ditch attempt though could be the slot, Windows should dectect graphics and use generic driver so you get a picture at least, 4, Also check the beeps with the mother manufacturer the beeps will tell you whats wrong, RAM, GPU, etc, 5, If you do have CPU with onboard try to boot into that to see if its not something else. Oh and 6 reset the bios. 7 those video connectors on the motherboard wont be used if you have a GPU they are for CPU's with gpus embedded.

this is actually a reply to your other comment which i can't find now. You should NEVER be working on the inside of a computer while it's turned on, especially if you're not a tech. The only thing that can really be excused, is hard drives. But the second you need to take a screw driver to it, TURN IT OFF. Grounding yourself works fine by touching the chassis. Over 20 years experience working on computers and electronics. Still have yet to brick anything that wasn't already bricked.

do a bios firmware update should fix the usb issues plus in bios some times people disable the usb ports on front or back might wanna check that in bios also, usually fixes the issues

It's a curious problem about not automatically installing video drivers. You know something is being detected because of the beep. It is recognizing the video card brand and model but won't install drivers, or is it just recognizing something was added but can't figure out exactly what?

You always have to install drivers. That isn't an issue. Besides which, you don't want windows drivers. As for psu, totally normal behaviour most likely. I don't know what you got there, but from what info you've given, nothing wrong. As for heat coming out of it, there may be an issue. Also, you should check your bios if the video card isn't outputing a signal. The mobo may be configured to use onboard, and not pcie.(probably labled igp or something like that in the bios)

I did I went and got the drivers for it. I was just thinking on video cards it would get drivers on it's own. Or Windows would. But at any rate I got it working. So video card is working.

@@ricklakes9405 windows will download windows drivers usually. You might have to tell it, by going to updates and then additional software(can't Remember exact wording but that should be close) but windows will never download the nvidia drivers. That's a manual thing. Always. Glad it's working tho. It does sound like your bios isn't configure right possibly tho. I'd still check and make sure pcie is selected and not igp. Also check what speed your ram is running at while your in there. I bet it's only going half speed. I dunno gigabyte that well but I think you should see something labeled xmp. Could be something different, Google gigabyte xmp should give you the info you need.

Oh yes , I had a friend here. Good with computers. I am better at the building part. Not big fan of messing with software. Did I not tell you the power supply. Both the same fully modular EVGA 650W Gold. I have 2 monitors 32 inch. All stuffed into a Corsair 500D. Working good.

@@TheCurtisnixon ya I do need to update my BIOS. I think I have an 8 GB or 16 GB Flash drive. I am not a big fan of doing that. Had a friend guide me through updating a BIOS. Needless to say we screwed up some how. We never tried to check for a back up BIOS to switch over to. We just unplugged it I do know how to cause I do it on business. The other nowing my luck we would loose ele. Only have one. 2nd one is in mind. Battery back up. One of these days I will get to ordering one.

Nvidia also stopped support for the the gtx 950 so maybe if youre on a 960 windows wont install drivers automaticall because its essentailly an end of life product. ther wont be any more driver updates for the 950 so maybe the 960 is affected. having said that having said you worked and rearranged cables whilst pc was on you could have static discharged electricity and shorted something, i always turn pc off and touch a radiator, whilst trying to say off carpet.

The lastest driver supports the 950 in windows 11. Even as far back as the 750. While the newest drivers wont include any fixes for the older cards, they're still supported for now anyway. and as far as static is concerned, you're better off to touch bare metal on the computer chassis. That grounds you to the same ground state as the pc itself, ensuring no voltage difference between you and the parts you're going to work on. Yes I agree that what I said don't do as I do cause yes it's a bad idea. As far as the 960 yes your right. I took it out a while ago. It is sitting on my self. Prices have stopped me from replacing it.

I always turn eco mode off for max cooling. For the computer that doesn't recognize devices and install drivers, have you ever attempted doing a clean install of windows?

Yes I have but I will do that when I upgrade to Win 11 Pro. Doubt that will fix the problem, might but I doubt it.

@@ricklakes9405 Not saying it would do it, but it's possible your Windows got corrupt. You could always try the Dism command that repairs an already installed Windows version, if you don't want to do a re-install.

@@costanzathemage Works OK now. I would put my other MB back in this case. It has an Z390 Gaming X by Gigabyte. The other MN is a Gigabyte B560 Aorus Pro AX . Thinking of replacing the Z390 Gaming X. When or if I can afford a MN ,CPU ,Memory. Might be a year or so.

One has a switch and one doesn't for eco mode. Both 650 fully modular EVGA. Maybe I don't pull enough on the power supply for the fan to run I know it does at times but it rarely runs but at times I know it does. It warm when it not running.
