It’s a great way to stay low profile however, anyone who’s been a grunt knows it’s never a go no matter what, when you’re trying to stay hidden.

I was just a mechanic in the Army, but being stationed right next to the 82nd and being airborne artillery I was introduced to many of these great skills from some high speed low drag soldiers.

Nothing wrong with being a mechanic. My MOS was so outdated they did away with it 25 years ago or so LOL.

Another great video! Always keeping it real. Thank you for sharing this! For me one of the most important items in my bug out bag is his book Surviving the Wild. So much info with a lot of detail. Trying to remember everything In a real SHTF scenario when your stress levels are through the roof would be difficult at best. Having that with me just gives me some peace of mind. Thank you for all you do!🙏

Another great video GB2! Also loved the 90 degree dog leg explanation on hiking out and setting up with that original area in site. Very well done.

My favorite fire hole. Been building them since I was a kid on the farm. Come to think of it, it's been a long while, maybe dig one out in my back yard this weekend. Fun times are a waiting.

After decades of white gas or canister stoves I tried an alcohol stove for the first time a couple of years ago. It's slow...like real slow...BUT in the context of this scenario it has some advantages to consider. They will burn a variety of fuels from Everclear to gas line antifreeze to lamp oil. But the best thing about them is they require a windscreen so it hides what little visible flame there is and they are 100% QUIET. Obviously best to avoid needing to heat/cook anything but it happens. An alcohol stove won't keep you warm like a fire of course but still something to consider.

Wet smoke is mostly steam and will reabsorb into the atmosphere pretty rapidly, but you still get a dirtier, smokier burn than you'd have with dry fuel. How do you feel about using one of these at a site you're about to leave? Get meals and water made for the day as a last thing once your bag is mostly packed, take advantage of your readymade cat-hole, then cover up and scoot?

note to self, take 5 seconds, give the tip of that stick 2 heavy shaves for a flathead screwdriver tip, instead of packing the soil under the loosened soil with each blow, you separate. probably cut the dig time in half. 2 heavy shaves, 1 from each side of the tip.

Great video Josh. How far and in what direction from the fire do you proceed before making the first 90 deg. turn? Would assume the second leg of that series would be approx. double the distance of the first? Thank you for sharing. 👍❤️👍

Thanks, Josh, for sharing this great series! I’ve really enjoyed it and learned a lot!! 🙏 Question about the topic: Have you tried a BioLite? They have a self-charging fan to make them burn more efficiently. It seems like that may accomplish a clean burn like the venting of a Dakota fire pit. Any thoughts?
