Become a better photographer by concentrating on what you're shooting. George's lecture consists of a visual presentation of his images, as well as a discussion on how he works, how he generate ideas, and how he uses color and composition to create pictures. This informal interaction with the audience will draw upon his career based here in New Jersey as well as Hawaii, shooting for corporations, creating stock photography and doing fine art work. Any serious photographer, especially students who intend to pursue a career in photography, should benefit from this presentation. Unlike other technically slanted presentations, George intends to concentrate more on finding images, seeing images that already exist, and bringing ideas to completion. He discusses the importance of creating a personal signature style. This presentation is definitely not about the computer or software applications. Ideally, he would like the viewers to leave with a greater understanding of discovering the visuals that already exist all around them.

Wow George, I didn't know you did one of these talks! That's amazing to have a true career artist rather than the usual technical teacher presenting. I love and miss you guys! -Christian A

I find the technical aspects of photography easy to learn, but training the eye, so much harder. What an inspirational guy!

You know here,s the thing. On one hand photography has nothing to do with the camera, but on the other it takes a camera to pull it off. The camera really has nothing to do with it until the very end. This video reminded me of that. What a talent.

this seemed very inspiring in the beginning then a great sense of impossibleness just took over... obviously George is so much talented its as if he is blessed with superior genes, and thus learning from him seemed to me as if I'm trying to learn from a bird how to fly! :) Thank you B&H, thank you very much George this was amazing!!

Very cool body of work and it's interesting to hear how he accomplished these shots at that time using real and tangible objects and subjects. It's crazy how far technology has come and the endless resources that are at our disposal with the internet. Many of these shots could be accomplished today in Photoshop with relative ease. How far we've come...

Love the Gibson Explorer at 4:05 :-) I love collecting and playing guitars. I went to Photography school at DBCC in Daytona Beach, Fl. 2 years and graduated. Never got the big break in fashion or commercial like I loved to shoot but I did earn several Merits but now I just shoot as a hobby. Digital is just not the same for me as film. I totally understand the 4-5 days getting a product shot, we all spent countless hours in the studio in school getting our perfect shot :-) No photoshop in those days. LOL in 1978

Great video. No gear info, and very little info on settings all about what photography is the final image that creative without photoshop in camera works that looks like it could have been photoshopped. Even showed the difference between making a shot to finding a shot that is creative enough to sell as fine art!

Great photos but it's just someone talking us through his photos. B & H should make a rule where the speaker isn't allowed to show their own photos - this way the speaker will talk about why a photo is great or in this case what it means to "concentrating on the picture" rather than a two hour back-story on a photographers album of photos.

Not quite sure why I would prepare a lecture using another photographer's images! It's not my mission in life to critique another photographer's work. I'm only qualified to talk about my work.

GEORGE DIEBOLD FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHY Very good of you sir, that kind of attitude is most respectable. My question to you Mr. Diebold is. What are your feelings towards the work of Wm. Eggleston? I see similarities in your body of work, to his; I wonder what type of influence his work may have had on yours? Thank You

+Agnostos Gnostos Its too bad that you can't appreciate what I thought was a very good presentation. Gear guides and technical presentations are a dime a dozen on You Tube. The information he provides on the preparation and thought process behind the shot is far more interesting. Thanks George.

+Agnostos Gnostos I think you've missed completely the point of the title in this presentation: "Concentrate on the picture" not your gear.

+Agnostos Gnostos This comment is why we need more videos like this. George will take a 5$ camera and shot great motives, because he connects with his ideas and knows how to transport emotions in pictures. and by that i dont mean the beginners "lets photograph homeless people" emotions. have you skipped the part with the "shadowpeople"? Its just one example that art is more complex than choosing between a few lenses. Besides ... if you knew your gear, you could guess which focal length he used. im still a bit baffled that people take this for granted. he could easily charge people to give them an insight to his amazing work and parts of his personal life. this was a FREE biography connected to his portfolio. its peotry. thank you, george!
