My favorite is when something says "NO HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP" in huge letters, then regular corn syrup is the first ingredient

Just so you know whenever you return food to a grocery store, even if it's completely unopened, it all gets thrown directly in the garbage can. As soon as it leaves the grocery store, it is considered contaminated and can no longer be sold. I know it is a state law in florida, where I work, and I'm 99.9% sure it's a federal law. It's because of the possibility of tampering. Reselling returned food is too big of a risk for stores to take, as is donating it, because if someone got sick, the lawsuit could be unimaginable. You should consider donating the food to a food bank, otherwise it's a complete and total waste. Just thought to let you know!
@MindOverMunch
@MindOverMunch 8 жыл бұрын
Yep! I've heard this, but I've also asked specific stores where I return and for most packaged items they claim that it doesn't get thrown. I do donate some of it, and I also give some away. Thanks for your input! Cheers
@priscillajimenez27

Yeah I use to work at Target and that's what they do sadly. When I have food items I know I won't eat, I it to a homeless person at the corner when I'm driving.
@outsanely
@outsanely 8 жыл бұрын
Be careful returning food items - make sure you know what the stores do with the returned product. Stores often will throw food products away after being returned (Walmart does this). So even if you're getting your money back, you're still contributing to food waste in a pretty major way.
@MindOverMunch
@MindOverMunch 8 жыл бұрын
+outsanely Good to be aware of! It depends on the store, Publix in Florida used to be able to re-sell returned items that were not produce or packaged in store, and we'd only return processed foods. Still, it can be viewed a few different ways... if it's a waste putting it in my body it's a waste of money just the same.

i can tell you my experience. i had cancer and was an alcoholic most of my life. the drug they wanted to put me on would have increased my risk of ovarian. which runs in my family. i figured tht was a death sentence. so i opted out. i went alternative. i started with just garlic. over the years i have simply educated myself. today i am mostly plant based. i do lots of raw and i alkaline. (cancer cannot exist in an alkalined body. we have high cancer rates in this nation because of our food which is processed and highly acidic) i am not vegan just mostly plant based. i have been cancer free for 17 yrs. i hope this helps you make your choices. blessings.

And I thank you because so many people really dont take the time out to read the labels...and when they do they probably don't know enough when actually looking at the label. What a brilliant video! A lot of these juices contain so much sugar it is scary because people are unaware of the amount that is in them, thinking they are just healthy for you because it is fruit and 1 of your 5 a day. I am glad that you are making people aware of the sugar content :)

Thanks! This was incredibly informative. I do wonder...why do they add salt to vegetable juice? Is the juice (concentrate) so bland that they have to add it to boost the flavor?

The best option is to definitely to blend your own smoothies, so you know what is going in it and you get the fiber, unlike juice.

+Desirae Baker Thanks so much! I will keep some low sodium recipes in mind, but please know that most of my recipes are lower in sodium since I cook mostly from scratch and season to taste :) Sodium won't be a problem with your recipes unless you're using processed ingredients (like tomato juice, tomato sauce, etc) so always read the label! :)

I really like all of ur videos and I thank you for sharing your research summarize your findings. I have learned alot and with your videos it helps my health journey and now I can finally understand the nutrition labels of food. It does make me sad thay we are in a world full of people that take everything personal, exagerate, and cannot agree to disagree. I can tell that you sound defensive when providing the information but it makes sense because there are alot of people that are going to want to argue with you for any little thing. I REALLY WANT TO THANK YOU FOR WHAT U DO!!! THANKS!!

About all the fruit being in the juice - I had never thought about what that actually means. For me, it's always been like "oh, great, there are three bananas in this juice!" but I've never considered whether I would actually eat three bananas at once and if it's actually one servings worth. Thanks for a great video!
@MindOverMunch

+Sonia Siropian I know, right! I used to do the same thing! I had a moment one day where I was hanging out with a family friend who's daughter is 6, and she was drinking one of those juices. She struggles with weight a bit, and I always want to help but it's a touchy subject. And I'm sitting there thinking "she doesn't need all this sugar" and she starts showing me the pictures on the side of all of the fruit. And I realized that that was a LOT of fruit for ONE sitting! For sure, that juice is better than many of the other processed snacks in kids' diets these days, but still, it's good to put it in perspective! I'm so glad you found it useful, thank you for watching!!

What's a good choise for a drink after/while eating? I know the best thing to do with a meal is drink water but I'm not tolerable enough to do that with my meals. I drink around 3 botles of water during the day so is not like I don't like water. Is just that I need something diferent. Is cold tea a good option? Or are they other juices better? I'm not looking for a fruit/veggy substitute either.

I have Crohn's disease, and when I have a flare-up, I can't have fiber or high amounts of sugar. That makes it pretty difficult to eat whole fruits and vegetables! I know this wasn't supposed to be the take away, but I'm thinking that either diluted or sugar-free juice might work really well for getting me vitamins and minerals without the fiber! Thank you for the video!
