What Is The Best Concrete Cleaner? Rust-Oleum, Zep, Simple Green, Oil Eater & More...
Today we are taking a look at concrete cleaners. Specifically, Rustoleum Concrete and Driveway Degreaser, Zep Driveway and Concrete Cleaner, Oil Vanish Oil Stain Remover, Oil Eater Cleaner Degreaser, Simple Green Concrete and Driveway Cleaner. We are going to compare all of these products to one another and to a large electric pressure washer to see how that compares to these cleaners.
For the testing I used each one of these cleaners and degreasers at the manufacturers recommended dilution ratios for heavy cleaning. Each test area was treated with 12oz of cleaner, the area was brushed with a broom for 2 minutes, another 12oz of cleaner was applied, scrubbed for another 2 minutes and finally rinsed.

It would have been interesting to take one of the sections that came out marginally (e.g. Simple Green) and re-clean it with the Rust-oleum to validate the results were all about he quality of the cleaner, and not variations in the kinds/severity of stains on he different sections. Thanks for a great video.

As a pressure cleaning business, I can tell you that using a degreaser along with my 4000psi petrol powered pressure washer will outdo any of the products alone. Combining pressure washing and a cleaner is ideal compared to one or the other.

If you’ve ever watched one of those area carpet cleaning videos? Amazing. Virtually every really dirty surface needs a cleaner/solvent appropriate for the surface/stain, agitation, and high pressure rinsing (power washer/hi-pressure hose). Thanks for the comparison test.

for concrete, you need at least 3,200 PSI or more, which can only come from gas-powered pressure washers.

for concrete cleaners for oil I have personally used pour and restore on an very old oil stain and it does exactly what it says it really penetrates and removes the oil down deep. where some cleaners clean slightly below the surface and the oil seeps up over time. The con it takes overnight or until it dries out. But it is worth the wait. Just to let the audience know

I have used Purple Power and Citrus Cleaner from the dollar Tree at full strength. I scrub with a broom and use a power washer at 2700 PSI. I clean the garage floor every spring to remove the Michigan salt from the winter!

What happens if you don’t dilute the chemicals and just use it straight out of the can? Is there any harm to the concrete?

There’s a place called the “Janitors closet” here in Salt Lake City, where I live. They sell a De-Greaser that has absolutely decimated every cleaner/de-greaser I’ve ever tried. Even the stuff made for Parts washers that’s more expensive. I don’t recall if is his in-House blend or if it’s from one of his suppliers. Either way, They sell it in quarts, 1 gallon jugs and 55 gallon drums I believe. I’m not sure if they will ship it or not. I don’t know why they. wouldn’t. You need to get ahold of a gallon and see what you think.

I really wonder now how super clean 50/50 or surfex HD 10:1 or Zep citrus cleaner some mix ration. Those are much stronger but no idea if safe on concrete. I've used surfex HD though and I'm not sure if there is a better cleaner anywhere honestly

Not much experience in cleaning concrete floors, but an old timmer used gas poured on affected area. Then covered in oil dry and let it sit. When he was finished the oil dry was reusable and the oil stains were gone. Hope this helps

I've got a 24 year old cement driveway. My truck has had a power steering fluid leak for over a year. I finally had it repaired. I used Dawn dishwashing liquid and a pressure washer. The stain is lighter but still there. I'm going to use the Rustoleum that came in first in your ranking. Did you let it sit for a long time after scrubbing it in with a brush? 5-10 minutes. You don't want it to dry, keep the area wet.

My experience on cleaning non-coated concrete against motor oil, transmission oil, gear-box oil, power steering oil.. Best cleaner without hesitation is Brakes’ Cleaner... Spraying directly from the can.... For Lanolin (Blaster’s Surface Shield), Brakes’ Cleaner didn’t work... I will try what Repair Geek recommends.... I will leave my comments after that.

Pressure washer too aggressive use will take the 'skin' off concrete et-al, where mosses and weeds will grow back far worse and be much harder to remove thereon?

Nice review. Did you consider cleaning the entire floor with the Restoleum too see if it removed the stains the other cleaners left behind?

You have to watch with that stuff. Full PPE, and you need to pay attention to where the runoff is going.

I use Xenomorph blood. Strips away everything. Including PPE.

Tide Professional Commercial Powder Laundry Detergent would make that floor look new. We use to use it to clean the concrete at a Huge Truck Stop for oil and diesel spills.

I’m not surprised that the pressure washer underperformed. I learned from a professional pressure washing service that the detergents and other chemicals they use do the heavy lifting. The pressure washer is just rinsing.

Actually incorrect. The chemicals do do the heavy lifting, but the pressure cleaner can a lot of the time reach the same results, but at a much slower pace. Especially if the "professionals" that you know were to use a hot water system with over 4000psi.

Nothing beats Gasoline, Diesel fuel or if you can handle it, muriatic acid. But I like Gasoline and Diesel fuel. I also use a pressure washer afterwards to beat that oil out of there after the gas absorbs and dilutes it to almost nothing.

I just used your first place jug on my outdoor patio. Large area of dog urine stains. It didn’t do much of anything. I’ve tried everything I’ve seen on KZfaq and it’s been a waste of Money. Nothing works. Something must work.

You would think that the powerwasher would perform the worst because obviously you didn't use any cleaners with it first... 🤦‍♂️ The best thing to use on oil stains on concrete is to spray it with carb/brake cleaner and scrub out the stain. An easier way is to coat the oil stains with Dawn dish soap, then put Borax on the soap areas and let it sit overnight. Then take a broom and scrub it a little bit and powerwash it off or use the floor cleaner attachment to clean it off... Cleanest concrete EVER!!! Also, make sure your powerwasher is at least 2800 psi when using the attachment...

Poet washer needs to be above 3200 PSI and 3.5 gal/min to be useful AT ALL. People buying those 1-2000 are wasting their money. Also they DO NOT have the advertised pressure to begin with. It’s like air tools where torque is overvalued by as much as 2-3times. Also if you have less pressure THE LAST TGING you want to do is split that pressure by mounting multi-nozzle tool. You have to concentrate the pressure as much as possible but it will have zebra strifes on a big areas if you go too small.
