Condenser vs Dynamic Microphones!? Which is BEST for Live Looping?

In today's video we are going to compare the differences between a Condenser Microphone and a Dynamic Microphone! To decide which type of microphone is the best one for using with a loop pedal! There are a multiple ways we can setup microphones for vocal live looping, which we shall explore in today's video!
I have live looped with both a condenser and a dynamic microphone, in various different scenarios. So I wanted to share with you some pros and cons of the two microphone styles!
In this video, I will also show you how to setup phantom power on your BOSS RC-300 and BOSS RC-505 Loop Stations! So you can correctly use a condenser microphone, for vocal looping with your Boss Loop Station!

I have a condenser Mic and was so stuck on stupid!! I just got my Boss 505. I turned on the Phantom Power like you said. It worked. Thanks a million!!

How is your experience with dynamic mic on RC-500 ? I bought a dynamic mic but input level of the mic is too low when you connect via XLR input.

Hi Ben, Thanks for this Good view of the differences between condenser and dynamic microphones. Your example boss loopers seem fine with the dynamic mics. Did you try them on the RC-500? I have no luck in getting the dynamics, (Audix Fireball, SM57 and SM58) to trigger the auto record even with mic level set to maximum and input sensitivity set to 1. I don't own a condenser mic so not able to try that. I' like to record vocal harmonies and doubled harmonica lines but at this point I'm using a JamMan pedal for this which is just extra hassle for me.

hey Ben, this was really useful! Thanks! I've just changed my condenser mic to a shure sm58, feedback is a lot better but its still getting some. Do you think changing to s super cardiod will make a big difference? my room is not very acousticly good though. maybe thats the biggest issue

Hey Ben, I have been looking around to see if this won't damage my Boss RC 505 aux input...I have a Zoom H2N condensor mic, going into the aux input of the Boss RC 505. I don't need to turn the phantom power on for that do I, because the Zoom already has it? Or does the phantom power only go on when you have a condensor mic hooked into the xlr port? I just don't want to blow anything? Thanks...SBN RESONATE

I'm not really singing when I use my looper but to record some beats, I usually have my SM57. Low cost and super effective mic. If I was to record some singing, I would not change it. But maybe to record un a studio, that would be a nice add-on to the equipment.

HI Ben, Great detail here! I am interested in buying a DPA 4099 instrument microphone (condenser, with ambient sound rejection). Will RC500 or other Boss loopers with phantom power work as a source of phantom power for such an acoustic instrument condenser mic? Next, can the guitar cable coming out of the looper now go to the guitar input (not XLR) of an acoustic guitar amp without loss of good fidelity that a high quality mic such as DPA provides? I am looking for a bedroom, and not stage, application, and trying to kill three birds with one stone: 1. Get a quality proximate mic for my multiple acoustic instruments, 2. Phantom power the mic (DPA 4099) with a looper (rather than a DI box), and then 3. Add some modeling (compression and reverb) from my Yamaha THR5A amp. This way, if this is a workable setup, I can record better for home-made YT videos, and conceivably also have a live performance setup (everything is battery powered, plus sideways sound is rejected by DPA). Muy buenas y gracias por el canal. Estoy buscando un micro para un live set muy específico y quería pedir opiniones para orientarme. Es para tocar live looping en directo, sonorizando al mismo tiempo percusiones, hand pan, flautas, voces. Por ello necesito algo que pueda captar a cierta distancia PERO que NO ACOPLE FÁCILMENTE. Esto es el principal problema para microfonar directos de Live-Looping, ya que en cuanto hay un par de capas loopeadas con delay (por ejemplo) es fácil que el micro acople. Lo mejor que he encontrado para evitar el feedback noise es el shure beta150, pero tiene la pega de que hay que acercar mucho lo que quieras sonorizar, y en un set multi-instrumental es un problema estar moviendo el micro en directo. ¿Alguna recomendación? GRACIAS!!

Cuando dices acople hablas de que se filtra sonido? Yo tengo el SM58 y aún así se me filtra sonidos cuando estoy grabando el loop y se.me.ensucia

@@BenRowlandsMusic Hi. I am a noob regarding these things. But my son has a boss rc-30 (which also has the option of phantom power for condenser microphones). I also have an audio technica atm41 dynamik microphone (which obviously don't need phantom power, but perhaps a preamplifier? I dont know). Anyway, do u think using such a dynamik microphone together with a boss loop station is a good solution, it will be good? Or would some preamplifier for dynamik microphone be needed first? Hoping for a reply and some help, is atm41 ok/good for boss loopstation as is, or something more needs to be done first, before plugging it into the loopstation via an XLR cable? the condensor mic looks like a Rode NT1-A ($240 usd) the dynamic mic is a sennheiser E945 ($200 usd)

I find when I hook in my microphone the vocals sound like crap. If a guy is recording music what’s the best way ? The vocals on my guitar amp isn’t dull
