I have a "Big Leaf" and I love it. I don't really consider it a machete, I think of it as American barong.. Which is cool. A good tool that could also be an effective weapon. And it does ring like a bell when you chop with it!

My primitive survival blade does that too , I love it 😅

The same way you feathered, you can strike your ferro rodl. Sink the tip in a log, put your tinder next to it, and draw the firesteel across it, just like you did with the wood. Easier when you have a big blade like that. The normal way, the weight of the blade makes it unwieldy and you are more likely to wipe out your tinder pile.

Tim Gannon agreed. That’s one of my two favorite methods for striking the ferro rod.

Great review, hitting all the main points! I go back and forth on blades with a shape like that, so im not sure it would be for me. All good though, thats why there are so many different styles of knives. 😁

The Blade's width makes it as same heavy as a normal Machete which is less wide but now it can be more slim to bite more aggressive. Just like a thick piece of steel that you would hammer until its flat. Same weight but more slicy.

As an expert knife designer and psychologist, I can say that the large width design was simply to make a satisfactory ting when it strikes. It positively reinforces the behavior with every hit and makes you love both murdering plants and the blade itself. Even the design with the leaf pattern was a sort of projection to commemorate the innumerable branches that will fall with such a pleasant ting. There's definitely no other reason, that's for sure. Weight? Plate? Pancake flipper? Not features just coincidental effects to achieve that ting.

I love a barong, which is essentially what the Big Leaf is. Like any good barong, it has remarkable slicing, piercing, carving, and chopping power. And then a lot goes wrong in the execution. 1) No guard. The continuous curvature makes it slice like those old school paper guillotines. And there's nothing between that and your hand. No bueno. 2) No hook. The broad leaf design gives that continuously curving blade serious chopping power and makes the point really acute. And there's nothing between your legs or feet and all that piercing and chopping power if it slips out of your hand. No bueno. 3) The handle is short for the massive blade, making it poorly balanced. Guaranteed fatigue, whether chopping or doing fine tasks. 4) The edge is far from the handle and there is no choil. Fine carving is going to be a chore. 5) Quality Control. Every review I've seen reports tip damage in shipping. 100% failure rate. It has great potential, but they'd need to some design mods.

The big leaf is wide to keep it thin but adding a little weight. Thats my opinion anyway.

I like the wide blade on the big leaf. I use the big leaf as intended as a bush machete, lite chopper... I agree about more of a gaurd is needed. I'm used to machetes so using the big leaf for tasks is simple for me. The mondo is a great camp blade. Yeah its easier to use overall by design.

The shape and size reminds me of the knives the Hmong tribes, of northern Thailand, make.

Give credit where it’s due. That leaf blade is largely influenced by a Filipino barong blade.

Was the hole explained??
@Windinhisface
@Windinhisface 3 жыл бұрын
The hole according to Condor is called the eye of the Condor which will make you victorious in the field as it watches over you 😜 also it and the grooves are to prevent suction while chopping/slicing according to other manufacturers that have done similar options to their products hope that helps a year after your question 😉
