Needs a lanyard hole for sure. If you chop with that, it could fly out of your hand without a lanyard.

did some research on the hudson bay knife type, found out it was used by fur traders in the 18th century and mountain men in america. turns out it actually was used in place of a splitting axe sometimes. fun facts!

For what it's worth, I just got one of these and the sheath holds it quite well. I turned it upside down and shook it a bunch and it held steady. Maybe they've taken the note and improved it.

I've had mine for two and a half years now and it is a very usable knife. The design dates back to the early 1800's here in the states and was carried by many a Frontier's men and buffalo hunter. I've used mine to process kindling for fires and then slice meat. I like how you say the edge should be workable sharp. I also do not use a knife to chop down "trees" or baton wood. Good video, you've got my subscription. Oo;ps forgot to talk about the handle. It comes unfinished so you will need to oil it or poly urethane it. Or, you can wrap the handle is some kind of grip tape, hockey stick or tennis racket. I've even heard of guys wrapping the handle in para cord but not sure it would go back into the sheath then.

Own two of them. Good splitter and cleaver. Convex edge takes abuse well. Worth it. Keep up the vids !

I’ve got a simple solution for your shock transference… Go to a sporting good store and buy a nice leather tennis racket wrap.. that should make the handle both more comfortable and absorb shock more readily. i’d wrap it with a couple layers.

I don't know why everyone wants a lanyard at the butt of the grip. If you lose grip on it while using it then you have a pretty heavy sharp blade swinging towards parts of you that I am sure you would rather not have cut. The lanyard should be attatched at the front of the handle where it actually assists in retaining your grip. With a properly adjusted front mounted lanyard it is almost impossible for the knife to slip from your hand making it much safer.

Some tennis racket traction tape makes a world of difference on the grip. You can set form the sheath and it will have kydex like retention, or some good leather conditioner/preserver (I prefer Obenaufs LP, Balistol also works great on the leather and blade, both are food grade) rub the leather product in and form the leather around the handle, it's skin and will form around the handle, and your sheath will be protected from the elements. I prefer a large knife paired with a small 3" (like the Condor Bushlore) a big knife just minimizes work

I chose the bushlore over this because of the au pricing, but the bushlore's edge rolls and takes damage by simply carving and even cutting food on a board. But glad you posted the review and good song too man! Oh and you're getting towards 1000 subscribers - well deserved

You must of got a bad heat treatment on yours cause ive been using my Bushlore for a couple months now batoning and carving a ton. Ive had no rolling chipping or any blade damage, I've heard this alot from people and I was a bit reluctant to buy one but so far mine is awesome. I also use a Mora RobustHQ and the new pro and both have rolled on me just from basic use which is weird cause everyone says they have good tuff steel;)

+Yo Adrian I like how the Mora's carve but all the plastic is a total turn off. I am thinking about getting some blanks and making my own handle, there is some awesome vids out there and the finished product looks so cool.

Hey knife junky have you looked at those RealSteel bushcrafter knives? they make a folder version also and man it actually looks pretty dang nice. I was looking into getting a ColdSteel Finnwolf, scandi folders are so rare, but now the realsteel bushcrafter folder has my eye. Anyways I love watching you test stuff on that crazy wood you guys have down there, when you baton in your vids I can really see the knives struggling. Anyways its much better having other people try to break stuff so I dont have to LOL;) saves me money.

hahah thats the idea behind my channel! I see limited need to make my scandi bushcrafty/carving knives into folders. I am not space poor and the scandi grind has less utility on other types of materials apart from wood... I like a standard pocket knife, a bushcraft knife and then a large knife in my outdoor system - American Lawman, LT Wright Genesis, Fallknoven F1 or Mora, and Fallkniven A1. The Finn Wolf seems like it could combine those first two, but Im not sold for some reason. I probably should try though!!

I hear you say that a lot about the prices, is it due to exchange rate that causes this or shipping, or something else?

Yeah it’s big of them, but also you tend to get knives through a middleman company, and they take their cut as well. That’s just how it is here

+CedricAda Gear and Outdoors Yeah exactly, I did see a video about it pop up on my feed recently, but I didn't watch it, I can't remember who put it up. The closest thing I have done is soak new leather boots and wear them around until they dry. To keep the leather in shape after being formed I wondered if linseed oil would do the trick, forming a water resistant semi rigid polymer. I think I have read that it is not good for stitching, but that could just be the drying agents in "boiled" linseed oil. Raw linseed oil will set also, it just takes longer. More research required.
