I had the great privilege to sit with my friend Dan Tate and talk about Mormonism. Dan used to be LDS. (Latter Day Saint, another name for Mormons, for those that don't know.) We talk about LDS terminology compared to Christianity, insight on what they believe, a little about Dan's story out of Mormonism, and how to reach LDS. He's a wealth of knowledge on this subject.
I first heard Dan on The Cultish Show talking about this very subject. He goes into a lot more detail on other topics on the podcast. I have linked these below as well as other resources that are mentioned in the video.

Just saw this video. I was raised Mormon and even went on a mission. Lost interest in the Church a couple years after my mission and basically stayed away from all religion. In the past 2 years I found Christ and the bible with new eyes and heart. I am amazed at how different it is now to actually study the Bible and follow Jesus now in my life. The more I follow Christ there is a larger division from my family who are actively involved in the Mormon denomination. Fortunately my wife and I with our kids are now learning more about Jesus and the Bible.

I fell away from Mormonism 10 years ago at age 32 (born and raised in it in Utah). Something was really off about it and how it made me feel. It took 10 years to figure out this saved concept, God did his miracle in me, and aside from my husband and kids, nobody in our families have chosen that path. Now I LOVE God, love the Bible, and put my hope and faith in Christ. What a difference it truly is! Praise Be! Before this I had no doctrinal truth, no concept of the word and of God. I’m so happy for you too, brother.

WOW! What an inspirating story! I'm sad for the separation between your family & you. That must be hard. I'm THRILLED you have a wife & children who belong Jesus as you do. I can't help but be reminded of Jesus explaining why he came to Earth in terms of dividing with his sword. That must give you a great deal of comfort & confirmation.

Pretty much every LDS missionary that has approached me, asked me to read the book of Mormon & then really tune into how I feel. If I feel elated, or even good/positive feelings afterward, then that's proof/confirmation from the Holy Spirit that the Book of Mormon & doctrine is the one true religion. And they very much strongly emphasis how, basically, I should focus on/depend on my feelings. Of course, we know that Yahweh warns about letting our feelings run our lives & about leaning on our own understanding.

Thanks so much, Melissa. I became Mormon in high school because I asked if they were Christian and they said yes, and I was so naive I just took their word for it. There were the nicest people there, and they were so kind to me. It was hard for me to leave. I have so much love and respect for anyone who was raised in it with family who leave. Honestly, there are still parts of the culture I miss, but there is so much pressure on people because it is VERY works based. Thanks for sharing your story and speaking truth in love. That is rare to find anywhere today.

God bless you. I have had “mature” Christians tell me that they “know” when they meet other Christians because they are so “nice”! I have a hard time with that because someone of the nicest people I have known are (or were, when I knew them) completely lost. Yes, we are supposed to be different, and loving, but nowhere are we told to be “nice”! Sometimes, we have to be hurtful to someone’s feelings to tell them the truth. God bless you as you continue growing in Him.

Lauren, we as Christians can gleam from some of their culture. I like how they have family day, where its all about interacting in one way or another. Also, their young men and women going out on missions. This is also something that we should be encouraging our brothers and sisters to participate in. All that to say, I hope you have found the true Christ.

I was born and raised in it and was raising my family in it til I fell away, and 10 yrs later am saved. It is a total mind control from birth on, using fear to keep you within its parameters of what you can and can’t think about, let alone question. You stay in the box until someone miraculously gets through to you. It truly is a miracle when God pulls us out of these kinds of situations. When you think about it, everyone has long held beliefs (not necessarily religious) that are very untrue, but if nobody challenged those beliefs, would you ever discard them?

Please pray for my mom.she has been Mormon since I was 9/10. They were very supportive to her as a newly single mom of 2 kids. I always knew it was not true.. She and I had an argument when I was 14 where I told her the religion is false. It has definitely continued to be a source of contention for us. Pray over my heart and to have the True words to say to her. My sister has definitely been indoctrinated; however she is pushing back a bit. Since I primarily went to church with my dad, who is not Mormon, I was not truly raised to be Mormon and had been exposed to the Bible before my mom converted, so I had a True foundation.

I am also a former Mormon. My brother is actually still a Mormon and is currently a bishop of the church in his Ward. One of the things that Mormons believe as part of their Doctrine is that marriage exists in heaven. Which is a direct contradiction to the Bible. The Bible says over and over again that marriage is not honored in heaven or no longer exists in heaven. When I discussed this with my brother he said that he believed as a Mormon in continued revelation. I told my brother that Jesus Christ his word is unchanging. If in the scriptures he says marriage does not exist in heaven he won't just change his mind and then now say and another book that it does exist. I said that continued Revelation would be an add-on to what he has already said not a direct contradiction. So that right there solidifies the fact that Mormon Doctrine is not based on biblical truth. Therefore should not be followed. There are many other Mormon doctrines that are also direct contradiction to scripture.

I told the ones that stopped by my home to please feel free to fill their water bottles or sit and rest in the shade even if we weren't home. If we were home I would invite them in so they could cool down a bit. I asked them if I read their literature if they could in turn read what I had. (southern Baptist), but they said they were forbidden to read other material and stopped coming to my door.

The sad thing is that people do have real spiritual experiences to confirm their asking if the Book of Mormon is true and Joseph Smith was a prophet. But they are not coming from God. And if we don’t have enough knowledge of the biblical text in order to judge our experiences, we can lose our way. Jeremiah 25 is also a great chapter for Christians to be familiar with. In there God admonished us that false prophets do exist and they will speak to us “visions of their own minds, and advise us to follow our own hearts”, which is a bad plan. Jeremiah 25:17-17

Thank you so much for your message. As of last week, I am no longer attending the Mormon church and am in the process of renouncing my membership and having my records erased. I was ordained an Elder in late March and decided to leave the church a week later after doing a lot of soul searching, spiritual counselling with God, and reading the Bible, Book of Mormon, Doctrine & Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price and finding out that the last three books contradict the Bible as well as themselves. Four days ago, I prayed to Jesus, repented, and accepted Him as my Saviour, inviting Him into my heart and life.

Very good/intelligent point at 30:30. “If I feel I’m being persecuted then my being a victim of that persecution proves what I believe is true”. That applies to every aspect of life and society, especially in our current reality. That false idea is preached, shouted from the roof tops and jammed down our throats from school age to adulthood now and it is extremely harmful. It’s not only crumbling/destroying the world but also people themselves (inside). Instead of building people up with the positive knowledge that nothing and no one can destroy you or hold you down, they’re purposely and destructively tearing people down by insisting that how ever much they feel victimized proves their own beliefs and holiness. That idea gets people nowhere, it never has. But it so easily takes root because one of our weaknesses as humans is to take the path of least resistance and to believe whole heartedly in whatever gets us the most of what we want. Destroying people in that way on such a grand scale is purely for the increase in power of the ones doing it. All you get out of it as an individual is to feel proven right or to feel that you’re winning. But what are you winning? Nothing

I have just recently became friends with a Mormon and we haven't had any conversations on religion yet. I grew up in a church that was very hard core on instantly debating them and not letting them into my home but I don't think that is the right approach as it seems to dehumanize another person and I'm not for that. I'm really here to understand the world of Mormonism and approach things with compassion so this is helpful. I have a question. If they are following the ways of Jesus, why do they need to see it through the lens of someone in the 1800s? I don't bank my beliefs in Jesus/God solely in what Calvin or Wesley, etc believed.
@dantate7528
@dantate7528 3 жыл бұрын
To answer your question I do need to clarify: 1. They aren't following the ways of Jesus. In their minds, they're more "law abiding" than they are a sinner who deserves damnation, but ultimately saved by grace alone. Now, they still believe grace has a part. But they look at grace in a synergetic way.. meaning they do their part and God will step in. They must work to some degree to merit grace to take them to the finish line. 2. I don't necessarily believe that any Mormon believes that they MUST follow Jesus thru the lens of a man from the 1800's. Remember that Joseph was a prophet in that time, but the church calls new prophets when the last dies. The LDS church has a current "Quorum of the 12 Apostles". The LDS Apostle who has been an apostle the longest becomes the next prophet / president of the church. For example many Mormons understand that prophets such as Brigham Young very well may have been racist. But they simply say he was a man of his time, and rely more on the counsel and guidance of the current prophet in 2020.

But I can honestly say that it has destroyed her relationships with her siblings to a large extent. I should have known more about Mormonism to refute their claims bcos they were trying to convert me. I was baptized in water in 1996. They said I'd have to be re-baptized into their faith. They gave me a Book of Mormon which I wanted to read to understand them better. But don't they see that right on the front of the book it says "Another Gospel of Jesus christ"? I don't want to debate them on the basis of here's what I believe vs what you believe, with no claim that either is right. I've noticed Steven Bancarz, even in his video with Marcus Rogers, comes at the start claiming here is the truth, not just what I believe. You accept the truth or you don't, but no ground is given. Hope that makes sense.

4:05 That explanation is completely incorrect. D&C is NOT just teachings about JS to the people of his time. For the most part, is the actual voice of God. Have you read the writings from the prophets of old times? Like Ezekiel, for example. He goes a lot along the lines of: " Then the word of the LORD came to me: 'Son of man, speak to the elders of Israel and say to them...' " That's what D&C is for the first LDS people in Modern America. Misleading former Mormons can be misleading. I would suggest anyone wanting to know about the LDS faith, not just rely on the testimony of people like this man, but to talk with other faithful LDS active member, read the BoM on their own judgement and go and ask God about it (with sincere faith, of course).

One of the things that struck me was a speech I listened to by one of the former presidents of the church, who basically said that God was not omnipresent because that was a ridiculous and unreal concept, that he must be just a glorified man. So my thought was that this man seemed very against anything that could not be understood with our senses, as in modern science, that the thought of someone being omnipresent and omniscient, since it couldn't be quantified by our human experience, must be false. So this rules out faith and again, only appeals to our own senses as verifying what we believe.

Hi! I admire your beautiful testimony of Jesus Christ and the lovely way you bear testimony of him and his doctrine! I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (or Mormon). The concern was mentioned in the comments, that our teachings go against what is written in the book of Revelation about not adding anything. If you mean not adding anything to the Bible chronologically, then you would have to reject a chunk of the New Testament, since quite some of it was written after the book of Revelation was. If you mean doctrinally, then I say the Church doesn't add anything to the doctrine. Through the Church the Lord has clarified doctrine and restored ordinances. So, I thought it would be fun to have a little challenge: I wager, that there is not a doctrine in our church that I can't find a verse in the Bible for that supports that doctrine. The doctrine of a Mother in Heaven was mentioned for example. Genesis 1:27 "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." Doesn't that indicate, that, if we were created in God's Image, male and female, that God is an entity of a male and a female? Baptisms for the dead were mentioned. 1Corinthians15:29 "Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?" Doing baptisms for the dead was a practice already in the ancient church. In fact, it is interesting because he is making a point to clarify that there will be a resurrection, but the baptisms for the dead are treated as normal - why else would they do it, if the dead didn't rise? A living prophet? Amos 3:7 "Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets." The devil is a brother of Christ? In the understanding, that we are all Spirit Brothers and Sisters of Christ and were together with Him in Heaven before we came to earth: Isaiah 14:12 "How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!", shows that lucifer was once with us in heaven- our Spirit brother. Also Revelation 12:7-9: "And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, 8 And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. 9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him." The fact that their place was not found any more in heaven implies, that their place was once found there. "Hidden" knowledge? What about what Christ said in Mark4: 9 "And he said unto them, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. 10 And when he was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parable. 11 And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:". This shows, that Christ waited until he was alone with them to expound on that, he waited for those who were ready with "ears to hear". The phrase "mystery of the kingdom" already implies that there are things, that were to be mysterious to some, but to them that were with Him, they were to be made known. Matthew 17:9" And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead". It is the same principle with those things in the Church which are not public. The Lord sometimes has reasons to not reveal everything to everyone at once. Also, in the ancient temple it was also very exactly regulated who was allowed to enter which parts of the temple, we can read about that in the old Testament as well. Garments were mentioned. Exodus 29:4-5 " And Aaron and his sons thou shalt bring unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation (a part of the temple), and shalt wash them with water. And thou shalt take the garments, and put upon Aaron the coat, and the robe of the ephod, and the ephod, and the breastplate, and gird him with the curious girdle of the ephod". Ritual clothing has been a part of temple worship for a veery long time. Also, if you believe in the ten commandments, and the commandment to Love God and your neighbor, don't you also believe that works are necessary as well as faith? Obviously, we are saved because of what Christ did, not because of what we do. But God wants us to become a certain Type of people, which requires us to Act and Change certain things. There is a beautiful Verse in the old Testament, before God gives the Israelites the 10 commandments He says he wants to Make them His "peculiar treasure". That required the commandments - our action! I Love my Saviour Jesus Christ. I am definitely a seeker of truth and believe I have found it in His church. But I also believe that anyone who does their best to live a good life according to their knowledge and understanding will ultimately be saved - why would a loving God condemn someone who is doing their best? Which is also the reason for performing baptisms for the dead, since, as it says in Luke 3: 5 "Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God". And of course our loving Father would also want to save those who do not know or understand baptism in this life. But of course, everyone has to decide for themselves, whether or not they want to accept that baptism, just as everyone baptised needs to decide to continue to follow Christ after their baptism. If we do not agree on the interpretation of these scriptures, doesn't that also show how loving it is of our Heavenly Father to call a Prophet in our day as well as in the time of the old and new Testament? What other doctrines would you like to know about?

Hey Destiny, it's Dan! What I meant at that point in the video was to say that it is very dangerous for any church to actively instruct it's members to steer clear of information that "bad mouths" the church. The LDS church holds Joseph Smith and the BOM as keystones to the religion (meaning roots to the belief), but they are not supportive in digging into the details. They don't want to spend time answering critical questions. Any literature that questions Joseph Smith or the BOM is considered Anti-Mormon literature, which members are strictly cautioned to stay away from. I believe it to be dangerous to avoid the opinions of those who critique. I feel the only reason you would avoid such literature is because you're afraid it's actually true. And if you actually have the truth, what could you be afraid of? What can work against you? Make sense? We should be constantly searching for truth and constantly keeping our leaders responsible. Our leaders should welcome that, and welcome questioning minds 👍

The LDS faith is so deceptive. Recently, I was going over different worldviews and religions with my kids. We went straight to the websites for Jehovah's Witness, LDS, etc. The others were very easy just looking at their statements of faiths to see that they did not align with biblical Christianity. However, the LDS one seemed like it would align with biblical Christianity. We had to go deeper into it in order to see why Christians do not consider the LDS faith to be Christian. They also will take the words that Christians use, but they have different meanings which makes having conversations with them confusing if you are not aware of this. It has truly been eye opening since moving to Utah 8 years ago.

Even Christians can be deceived. The third commandment doesn't actually say that you shall not misuse the word god. Exodus 20:7. From the original Hebrew we can see that the word translated to 'misuse' means 'to carry'. Hmm... That gives it a whole different purpose. Also the word god is not His name. It is His title. We know the Bible tells us His name is His Character. Therefore the third commandment really says: When we choose to be a member of God's family we are to represent His Character. No if's and's or but's. Another miss interpreted verse is translated to say: "on Sunday" or "on the first day", when it actually says: At the ending of the Sabbath... Acts 20:7. People are taught this verse is the recorded keeping of the first "Christian Sabbath" but it doesn't say anything about being the first anything Christian. The verse says the purpose was to eat dinner... The people were hungry... I assume they had listened to Paul speak all day. The verse also says that Paul continued to speak while they were eating. The purpose was a seminar conference on what Paul had learned from his trip to Damascus. It also says that the reason Paul continued to speak through the night was because the following morning he planned to get on a ship and take a trip. So you can see that from proper translation the early church observed the 7th day Sabbath and went on trips on the 1st day of the week.

they ate dinner because the liturgy, as it were, in the early church consisted of a shared dinner, then they would share the eucharist, hear a passage from the Torah, or an apostle speaker, or letter from an apostle giving instruction, a homily about it, meaning a practical application of the passage or exortation, and then singing of psalms and invocations and then go their separate ways at that point. this was called a love feast or feast of love. many Orthodox Christians still have the same practice today as they have always had.

Hi! Thanks for your comment 🙂 Jesus said he came to fulfil the law not abolish it Galatians 2:15-16 says- "We ourselves are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified." Basically all of Hebrews and the first few chapters of romans talk about this as well because Paul was having issues with Jews thinking they had to follow the law as well as become a Christian in order to be saved. But that was entirely against the point of Jesus coming in the first place. My absolute most favorite example of this is when Jesus died in the veil was torn in the temple. We talk about that a little in the video as well. 🙂

@@MelissaDougherty I know you are in seminary right? Are you into studying the Hebrew and Greek language and the history of the time they were living in? When people say Yeshua abolished the law, they mean it in the sense that the law does not *save* us. We are not made righteous by simply obeying the law. it means that we get salvation in Yeshua by grace through faith, not through keeping the law. We technically "follow" the 10 commandments in the Spirit, who changes our hearts so that we can live a holy life. Sorry if I didn't explain properly! EDIT: Also, Jesus said in Matthew 23:1 to observe the law of Moses because *before* Jesus died and rose again they were still under the law of Moses. That's the correct context to put the passage in.

A very popular failing of the LDS members is the understanding of what should be expected of someone who calls themselves a prophet. The LDS know their leaders have faults. But they fail to separate those erroneous teachings from the idea that no one is perfect. For example, because they know Jesus was the only perfect being to walk the earth, they believe that since all men are imperfect, their prophets can make imperfect statements. This is a fatal error, because the Bible makes it explicitly clear that any prophet or Apostle will never give an erroneous revelation or teaching. They WILL sin, and we should be aware of that like Peter, but we should never follow anyone who's claims have been proven false, even if it's one. The very second anyone claims prophetic or apostolic calling, all it takes is 1 revelatory mistake to prove them false.

Interesting concept about the veil meaning that prophets are no longer needed. I disagree with this from a biblical view as we are told that our sons and daughters will prophesy in the last days. Joel 2:28. Prophecy is also a gift to the church by the Holy Spirit.1 Cor 12:10, so Luke 16:16 concerning John the Baptist is not saying he is the last prophet, but that the previous prophecies all pointed to Christ who was there at the time of John…so John’s message was that the kingdom of God was at hand. Jesus is our perfect sacrifice and is our high priest so no longer is an earthly sacrifice or priest needed. The rending of the veil upholds this. We are indeed the temple in which the spirit dwells and through Christ he can give us the power and desire to keep our bodily temple undefined in word, deed and even food. ❤️🙏🏻

Do Mormons believe in the same Bible as Christians? I know they have extra books but besides those other added books? I believe that as a human being my brain cannot fully comprehend every meaning and intention of every word He wrote. Beyond just His exact meaning, I think it’s the same for parts that sound like impossible stories. They’re only impossible to fallible human minds. That’s where faith comes in to play. I know Lucifer was originally an angel who was cast out of Heaven because he wanted to be equal to God. I don’t understand how your soul can feel any type of peace while striving to become equal to God or become god during your time on earth. It feels wrong even typing it. I’m not standing on a soapbox, I genuinely would like to understand. I believe there are Mormons who are just as genuine in their concrete belief as I am in mine. That’s why it’s easy to write them off and shut the door in their face. But God never said “don’t bother giving the truth to someone who is too sure of something wrong”. Inside I am wrong for judging them in those moments and have failed them and myself in a big way. The thought is “it’s too hard to get through so I don’t want to bother and waste my time”. I have faith in His grace that I’m forgiven of falling short so often but I still know I need to do better. Grace isn’t a get out of jail free card that can be used as a loophole of sorts. This was a very helpful video that I hope acts a mental tool when I’m trying to do better.

Old testament Law has not been done away with. The Law of sin and death is what's done away with. There is a difference. If the Old testament Law, the Torah, is done away with, and breaking the Law is sin, then there would have been no reason for Yeshua (Jesus) to die. For sin IS lawlessness (1 John 3:4). If there is no Law, then there is no sin. And His sacrifice was for nothing. Yeshua said, "if you love Me, keep My commandments" (John 14:15). And He said that the only doctrine He has comes from the Father (John 7:16). Many point to Paul saying he explains how Yeshua supposedly did away with the Law, or certain parts of the Law so we wouldn't have to do it anymore. But, Paul Himself testified that he knew and believed the Law and the prophets (Acts 24:14), so it doesn't make sense for Paul to write to the churches saying that the Law is done away with. Which means that the reasonable conclusion is that Paul's letters are misunderstood, which makes sense since Peter, a fellow apostle who knew Peter, said in 2 Peter 3:15-16. The reason we can't make sacrifices like they did in the Torah is because there is no Tabernacle for them to do it. But this isn't because "we don't need it." But because the physical temple was destroyed. If you study the prophets, they prophesy that when Yeshua comes back to establish His kingdom on earth, the sacrifices will be reinstated again.

Well, I'm wanting to find somebody who explains kind of simply and starting from scratch what exactly Mormons believe in. This guy and girl are jumping all over the place, and I have no idea what they're talking about.

Thanks for your feedback 🙂 it's hard to cover it all in one Interview. Perhaps the resources that we mentioned in the interview that are in the description might be helpful for you.

Sandra Tanner is amazing and explains the beliefs (search for her talks on KZfaq and her website is utlm.org with resources), Dan Vogel is great for history, Mike Winger has some great videos on mormons (his Bible knowledge helps so much), God loves mormons compares some beliefs, talking to mormons has some great short animations, lds encyclopedia is another channel I've appreciated. The beliefs are kind of scattered and have changed over the years. It makes it harder to get the whole story in one go. For the book of Abraham, mormon stories (John Dehlin, more of an atheist) interviewed Egyptologist Dr Robert Ritner for 13 hours. I hope some of these ideas, in addition to what Melissa suggested, help.

Did you know that the Bible contains prophesies about the Book of Mormon and the Book of Mormon testifies of the Bible? Isaiah 29:11 And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed (a Part of the golden plates was sealed), which men deliver to one that is learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed: (This happened when a friend of Joseph Smith brought copies of the characters on the plates to a scholar)12 And the book is delivered to him that is not learned (Joseph Smith had only about three years of official schooling; please read the book and tell me again that it is not revelation!), saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned. 13 ¶ Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men: 14 Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid." Also, to those who reject the Book of Mormon because of the scripture found in Revelation 22 that nothing should be added, die you know there is also a similar scripture found already in Deuteronomy 4:2 "Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you." Does that make the rest of the Bible invalid?

This is interesting, but it’s like asking Judas about Jesus Christ. And he is talking about stereotypes. And wherever the two of you are now (church wise) there can be people who critics that church like you do with other, because you won’t.

Mormonism isn’t Christian or biblical.

Ultimately, the biggest difference is that mainstream Christianity does not believe we have new testament apostles or old covenant mortal prophets today. Apostles were called as special witnesses of Christ. Only those that physically saw Jesus were called. We don't have apostles today because all the eye witnesses have passed on. We don't have mortal prophets today because as Luke 16:16 states, the prophetic lineage was done with John the Baptist being the last, and Jesus ultimately taking that mantle eternally upon himself as Prophet, Priest, and King. With that said, The LDS church claims ultimate authority. If their prophets and Apostles were actually called by God, we could validate that with passages like Matthew 7, "by their fruits ye shall know them". We see countless changes, retractions, denouncing of older claims or beliefs... The LDS church falls to its own sword. Mainstream Christianity is allowed to have Pastors who make mistakes and can be critiques because they claim no prophetic calling. They also aren't calling themselves physical eye witnesses to Jesus. So yes, there is absolutely imperfect in the culture of mainstream Christianity, and yes it can be critiqued. The only difference is my pastor will openly admit his fault and publicly repent if a claim of his is rejected based on biblical truth. The LDS church shushes those who critique the leaders, and evade admitting their erroneous teachings. Also, claiming that my opinion brands me as a "Judas" is simply poor debate. Attacking the one opposing LDS rather than attacking their argument is a rabbit hole of pointing fingers rather than pursuing truth. God bless.
