She is brave for sharing her story. She didn't deserve it.

First off, I’ve heard so many cases like this. Never victim blame. But I have been in the military for a while now and you cannot just think it’s okay to sleep in a room full of drunk males. Red flags everywhere. Doesn’t matter who you trust. Never trust anyone under the influence. I applaud you for taking the brave decision to tell your story. Young military service members don’t realize the dangers out there.

I miss my gf and searching this made me so worried about her and how guys would try to get at her like this but I can only pray that nothing like this ever happens to her.

It's very unfortunate that she experienced this. No one should have to go through it. It's even worse because it's supposed to be someone you trust with you life when you go into combat.

While she may or may not be an actress these incidents happen a lot and to a shipmate it is a very disturbing ordeal. It truely effects everyone in the Navy. These issues are serious and are real.

You do not understand the experiences of another unless you have experienced them, and sometimes not even then. Just because you would not have made a particular choice or agreed with it does not mean the person who did make that choice is bad or inferior or deserving of blame for it. You do not know what influenced that choice, either, unless the person tells you.

Going to a hotel room with a bunch of drunk guys and wearing a 'shorty' nightgown? That's got to be the dumbest thing - it's like college girls getting drunk at a frat party and going into the back room. It's a tough way to learn that lesson, but how naive can you be?

This is why I'll never get drunk or high in the military. Shit like this could happen.

Women join the military because they want to serve their country just like the men do. It’s supposed to be a team where we watch out for each other. I never saw anything like this happen when I was in the Army though I have no doubt it did after seeing so many videos like this. She is incredibly strong for coming forward and I’m glad her attacker faced justice instead of it being swept under the rug.

This made me tear up and it's taken a lot not to cry. I'm so sorry this happens in ohr military and is one reason why I'm actually kind of happy I didn't join when I was younger, even though a part of me wishes I still did. I already have a long history of sexual abuse and just... The military is supposed to be a brotherhood. A family. Doing AFJROTC throughout high school gave me a home during that harsh time in my life and something to look forward to and just... This stuff makes me sick. I'm SO proud of our vets and our soldiers who do good but there are way too many stories of not only assault but shunning and of the people they're supposed to be able to go to for help not believing or shunning or worse and... The corruption seems to know no bounds. Not even in something as honorable as the service. To all who have suffered this while serving, my heart breaks for you a million times over. Thank you all for being strong and sharing your story.

I remember in the navy that they trained us to believe that if two sailors had sex while drunk it was the male who raped the female. Regardless if both parties consented at the time. If she regretted it a day, week, year later she could file a rape claim and he would get prosecuted. Even if you took a woman out to dinner and she had a single glass of wine she couldn’t consent and you could get in trouble. Eventually this lead to us just drinking alone with guys only, which would upset some females who felt they were being unfairly excluded and guess what you could get captains mast for that too. After years of this we eventually just started to bang each other instead of looking for women. You could drink all night with your fellow sailors and feel safe in his arms knowing that your boy has got you and won’t tell anyone or report what happened.

Why is she confessing? Did she do something wrong or is this the same old victim blaming that happens in the military.

Realize this is a very old post but still relevant in my mind. Now of course not being a female I can never truly understand how this impacts a womans life. But why would a woman ever contemplate keeping a baby conceived from the result of a rape? I would have thought (again as a male) you would be screaming "get this thing out of me". Terrifying ordeal for women and hoping they can recover and please don't feel shame or guilt you didn't ask for this at all.

I was in the airforce it happened to me year s 1984 to 1990.

I'll never ever blame a girl for rape. No means no. But she was unbelievably naive & foolish. What the hey was she doing in that hotel room? To help you understand my reasoning: it would be a crime to rape me on the street at 2 am, but I'd be wise to be home in bed rather than making myself vulnerable.
