TRIGGER WARNING: Contains themes of domestic abuse and violence which some viewers may find disturbing.
This is Shanen's powerful experience with domestic abuse and violence. Shanen shares her story which goes into graphic detail about the way her abuser violently and mentally abused her.
But fortunately, Shanen's story doesn't end in tragedy, Shanen goes onto say how she along with the support of the police managed to secure a conviction against the perpetrator, which she states was an empowering journey to freedom. We couldn't be any more proud of Shanen for sharing her story, which will no doubt go onto support many people experiencing domestic abuse and violence, and will reaffirm that the journey to freedom is always possible.
If you are in an abusive relationship and fear for your life or are in an emergency situation please call 999 (UK) or 911 (US) in the first instance.

I'm glad she got help. Unfortunately, the trauma never goes away, and the justice system does not work adequately.

I grew up in this and people have no idea how hard it is to get away. It is more terrifying to leave fear of what they will do if you leave.

I knew my abuser was going to be hard to get rid of the day I met him. Red flags. He eventually batted my house down….. holes in the drywall … windows smashed out… all appliances and furniture destroyed …. I was hiding in a motel. The police had heard a voicemail from him and they told me to get away from the house before it happened. Had I been there, I would be dead. He did 2 years in prison Still afraid of him. I’m afraid to be in a relationship now. Make a plan. Get out before you lose your self or your life

I once dated a guy who was very possessive and was always accusing me of flirting with other guys , fortunately I ended the relationship early on because I wasn’t in love with him and wanted to date other people.

Surviving an abuser, is a feat in itself. My fear of him, my fear of losing my kids,my fear of living in a country that wasn’t my birth country, the guilt of wanting to leave him,but didn’t know how to get out safely…..I could go on,but this is not about me,it’s about this beautiful woman surviving this man! I’m so glad she’s alive! It’s horrifying to live in constant fear, knowing you most likely won’t get out alive.took me awhile, then of course it got violent, but for 7 years after getting out,he still ruled our lives, with money, with threats, with knowing I had no extra money,to force a divorce…..the threats, the violence,he hatred in me grew. I survived,my children are beautiful adults with healthy families of their own,and they thank me for getting them out,yet kids never stop loving a parent ,no matter how awful they are. But he is not a huge part of their lives, because they are adults he can’t use them as a weapon to control me,and the relationship for them,is a very superficial one. But he still tries to tell lies about me, 35 years later! It causes pain, it’s causes stress, but his power is no longer there. Once they saw,who he really was, they limited the contact, and would never leave one of their children in his care. He has no interest in his grandchildren, and I’m so happy I no longer have to look over my shoulder. His inner demons, has shown through to the outside,he looks a good 20 years older than me,and is a miserable human being, with a wife who thinks that’s all she deserves. He is not really abusive with her, because she lets him dominate her fully. Thank Gid they never had kids together, because a leopard may try to hide their spots, but they are always there, just underneath the surface. I’m proud and so supportive of any woman who gets out, gets her children out alive! There is life after, but the scars are forever.

Learn the signs of abuse. Tell everyone at the first sign of abuse and leave saying nothing. Don't trust your family and friends who are mostly clueless about abuse. Get professional help. Leave no signs of where you're going. Call your job and tell them why you can't come in. Use these videos for what not to do. Be safe!

That's actually great advice. My family wasn't supportive at all, and in fact, kept asking ME what I did to upset him and push his buttons. So not only did I have to deal with the trauma of his abuse, but theirs too.

I'm waiting final divorce paper from my spouse. He would fly into rage at any small thing . He hit me kicked me black and blue . I kicked him in groin to get him away from me .. I went to work with bruise over my eye .. stupidly I told people i hit my head in cupboard . I finally got fed up Bec I didn't deserve it and I left . I'm alone and will always be .

04:15 It wasn't remorse. It was fear of his behaviour being discovered. You are an incredibly strong, brave and beautiful woman. Your strength gives hope to other people in this situation. Well done. But there is one question i have to ask? What on earth were you doing with a GUN in your bedside table?
@elsahaas7116

It was probably his gun. He put it there. Also, if it was her gun, people are allowed to own guns for self-defense. But, it seems to me that it was his gun.

I wish my family had voiced concern. It would have made a world of difference. My family was happy he had a job and one time, after a particularly bad night, he bought me a necklace.. so my family saw it as "he has money, he buys you things.. what's the problem? "

Perverse emphasis on "GUN" when it should be on "He smacked me". Lets responsabilize inanimate objects for human actions, surely a very clever and productive move.

May the Grace of God protect all women & children in this world. Yesterday my partner threatened to give me black eyes I grabbed a baseball bat & told him "your stronger than me I'll use this bat! & All my strength to beat you!" My children were holding my leg. He didn't Thank You God. I'm a lil shorty NO MAN! Has the right to beat his queen. All I can do is relentlessly pray for the Holy Spirit to work on Him. I love Jesus Christ & for me personally, I'm fighting the demon within him. Stand Strong ladies & pray earnestly for your Man. God bless 🦋

You need to live your situation, you need to take kids away from vilonce too. And you need to truly give your heart to Jesus Christ and repent from all of your sins, so you may be born again of the Spirit of God and become new CREATION in Christ for real. You need to meet Jesus Christ. I know you say you love JESUS CHRIST, but he said if you love me keep my commandments. You have not kept his commandments, you took baseball bat and was prepared to be vilant with your partner. There is no differance between you and him, you both prepare to be vilant against each other. You cant fight evil with evil. Your action to comit vilance shows you are not following Jesus Christ or love him. You deny God Jesus Christ with your actions. Please live this relationship. If you are not married to this man, than you live sexualy immoral life and you defenatly need to come out from that sinful relationship because its cursed, if you are married than you need to separate from him and live holy life making sure your children dont see that vialance. I experienced vilance too as a child and as an adult. I was never free from my past and was effected by it, till i truly give my life to Christ and repented from my sins. I have met the Lord Jesus Christ in the open vision he healed my broken heart and set me free from SIN and change me and my life forever. Today i am truly FREE, because Jesus Christ set me FREE from evil SIN and my past and all generational curses of my family i have his protection. Now, everything i said in this message is based on the word of God, i am not giving you my opinion or using self judgment towards you. The word of God teaches us how to conduct ourselfs in every situation that is pleasing to God not what we think is right. I understand that you were frighten and wonted to protect yourself, but what you dont realise that could ended up with you being hurt or your partner or your children, which will resulted you not loving your neighbour as yourself and braking comandmants of God .You cant have true relationship with God if you are sinning, because your sin seperate you from him, he cant hear you and he cant hear your prayers. True repentance is required from you for Jesus to remove your sins, so you have access to God for real and have positive change in your life.To follow Jesus Christ is not easy, that is why you must count the cost Jesus said. If you truly want to know God Jesus Christ you need to rethink your faith in the Lord, and this time find true faith that has power of God to protect you and lead you and teach you in all the TRUTH. At the moment you are not living in the TRUTH of Christ, but your own " truth". I pray in Jesus name for you, your kids and your partner that you all will be set free from evil sins and recieve the love of God in to your hearts to be able to love people and God properly. May Lord God Jesus Christ be glorified forever. AMEN ❤

I am so sorry to what happened to you i am a TI_CHI player brought up in uk but i wished i was somewhere near you so that i would teach him a very good lesson not to raise his hands on women. I think that those men who do such things like that they are very coward and thats why they take things on women. Hope you have a lovely life in future.
