This video was a big time saver when installing the same dual Victron inverters that you have but in a parallel configuration. Battle Born referred me to your video and I'm glad they did. I couldn't believe how easy it was to set up the inverters for parallel operation after referencing your very clear video. Note: I ran into one SNAFU (not your fault). Victron's installation manual says to connect the Ethernet cable to the right side connector (#2) which gave me an error message on my CCGX. After calling Battle Born, they said to use the left side connector (#1) which solved the problem since that' the one they use to program the inverters (I had them do the basic programming of the inverters which they do at no charge but they don't set them up for parallel or split phase). Thank you very much Justin.

You can use the output of the two as long as they are configured in split-phase to get 240 volts out of the pair. They give you the same kind of power that you would get from a typical RV Pedestal. Hey Justin, I have a 50a 240v shorepower connection. And I’d like to get 2 multiplus 3000’s, but do I want to set them up in split phase or parallel? What happens if I adapt the 50a 240v inlet to use a 30 amp 120v cord? Will the inverters care if the incoming AC legs are NOT out of phase? Also what if one of the 120v legs is lost from the 240v inlet, but not the other. Do both inverters switch to invert? I don’t need 240v in the RV, that’s just how it comes in, and the panel is divided, but parallel operation would also work. What do you recommend?

When configured in parallel, the inverters will both need to be operational. If the slave is turned off the master will throw an alarm and shut down. Fantastic help here. I am just getting ready to program my 2 5000w Quattros in parallel and split phase. Have gotten this far with a great deal of assistance from Juan at beginningfromthismorning but he only has the one inverter so his panel is at 120V. You are helping me get the rest of the way and after trying to slog through the info that Victron provides you are a welcome breath of fresh air. Two questions, first what is the difference between your split phase config and your split phase floating? Second does turning off the ground relay have any effect on the wiring out of the inverters into the electrical panel. Currently I am planning on taking 120V out of the L1 on each inverter. My electrical panel is less than 30 ft from my inverters so I was going to run a hot, neutral and ground out of each one. Sounds like I need to keep all my cables the same length and I was going to put the two neutrals together under the neutral lug on the panel and run the grounds to the neutral bar. Is that the best way to go and if not, what would you suggest as an alternative? Thanks again for this great help, currently Victron is in a Catch-22 situation. They want to increase their market share in the US but they don't have enough qualified people away from marine centers to meet the demand. Until they increase their market share they won't have enough qualified people to help homeowners, or in my case farm owners, set up parallel and more complicated systems. People like you are helping bridge the gap and for that I am profoundly grateful!!

Hi Bill, I am glad to hear that you are getting value from my videos. It would be great if there was a little more factory support for sure, but I understand the reasoning for the model that they have to push the main support to the local vendor. That is where they need to increase their footprint in my opinion. I look back to when I lived in a stick and bricks and realize that for a back up or off grid system, solar is definitely making many advancements and a Victron system could be a viable solution for many regular residential setups. Though you would now be tied to government regulation. For your questions, I have not noticed a difference in the two different split phase settings. Though I have to say I have not often been plugged in to shore power much. The way I understand how it works, I believe that the floating split phase just allows for a little bit of extra leeway for the inverters to allow passthrough and charging. I would think that it would be a bigger concern to want to keep the phases 180 degrees out if you are using the potential 240 volt output. For the ground switch, since with my system would always have the master/leader providing the ground to neutral bond if needed, I did not want to possibly introduce an issue if the follower tried to create the bond when connected to an external single phase source of power. As far as the output for the wiring goes, there is no difference. As far as wiring the panel, the grounds do not go to the neutral bars. They would go to a separate grounding bar. the neutrals are isolated from panel grounds. You need to wire your panels like a sub panel, not a main panel. Your ground bonds should occur either in the inverter or at the main source of power pre-inverter (either generator or shore power). I would be interested in seeing your system if you would care to share.

Hi Justin. Do you mind answering questions about the actual wiring in parallel of two inverters? I am not an electrician but I would like to wire two inverter/chargers in parallel myself. I doesn't look to difficult but perhaps there is more to it than meets the eye. Regards Jon.
@PanelsUpSolar
@PanelsUpSolar 5 жыл бұрын
Jon Phillips I don’t mind. But keep in mind I am not a certified electrician and you need to be confident in your abilities and accept responsibility for your job. For for true parallel you can only have 1 hot supply leg so if you are plugged into 50 amp you will only be able to use one leg. So you need to feed both inverters with that one leg and then you need to combine both outputs of the inverters to one leg that will feed your coach.

@@PanelsUpSolar Thanks for that advice. I intend to run two battery banks to two bus bar then supply both inverters from the negative and positive bus bars. The 240v output will again go to two bus bars. This should even out any differences due to resistance in the wires. I will make all wires the same length. Does that sound ok to you?

Jon Phillips I think I will need to see a wire diagram to see exactly what you are thinking. Each inverter will only put out 120 volts. You get 240 volts AC output by running your inverters in split phase. If you join my Solar group on Facebook it will be easier to send messages back and forth through messenger that way. You can also see my walk through video for my system to see how my system is currently wired.

If you can plug in a Regular 50 amp rv plug to it you certainly could. But if you used a small 2000 watt inverter generator you could also do it. The chargers of each inverter/charger will only use about 1800 watts of power at full charging capability.

Hello there. This is indeed a brilliant video. It is well explained and you definitely have a wonderful knowledge and experience with these Victron products. There is a couple of areas though where I got lost and I need your help, please: 1. When you say that besides connecting to the inverters, you can also connect to the back of the Color Control, that means you would have connected both inverters prior, using an RJ45 UTP cable, right? Then another RJ45 UTP cable from one of the inverters to the Colour Control, correct? 2. Again, you need a third RJ45 UTP cable to connect the Colour Control to the MK3 USB, in order to configure the 2 converters, using a laptop, am I right? 3. As long as I have downloaded the software to the laptop already, I do not need an internet connection to start and complete the configuration, right? Thank you kindly! Regards, Obediah
@PanelsUpSolar

you can do it with two Ethernet cables if you disconnect the CCGX and use that cable or just use a third to plug in to the second port on the back of the CCGX. You do not need internet to do the configuration. but the software does do a software update check at start up but should skip that part if no network is detected.

I thought I answered this but I do not see it here. Sorry. If all you are trying to do is run the water pump, I have learned that the European models can be programed for the current output. Can this do split phase if the only power source is solar?
@PanelsUpSolar
@PanelsUpSolar 3 жыл бұрын
The reality is that all of the power that the inverter relies on is in the batteries. Solar panels and solar charge controllers are just another form of battery charger. You can not power the inverter on solar alone. So if the question is will these inverters provide split split phase output regardless of any outside power sources received, the answer is yes. As long as they are configured that way.

So I have 2 3000w 24v multiplus setup. If I run them in standalone everything works fine. If I change them to parallel, they start up but overload about 30sec after switching on. This is in a 50amp rv with l1 and l2 each split and going to each inverter. 1 leg on each and then each one is connected to half the breaker panel. Can you give me any idea why this would shut down? Thanks
@PanelsUpSolar
@PanelsUpSolar 3 жыл бұрын
When the pair is set up in parallel, they are looking to be on the same phase. If they are not on the same phase, they will error out. If you are running them in standalone, the inverters are not looking for each other. They are also not monitoring each other which can create a risk of fire. The 6awg wiring is only rated for 50 amps of current. If the two inverters are on a single phase passing through generator power and providing power assistance, each leg may see less than 50 amps, but when those legs combine on the neutral, your amperage could easily exceed 50 amps.

This makes no sense if you are talking about configuring the AC output of the two inverters for either parallel 120 or split phase 240. Your configurations, taken independently, each make sense, but you cannot then arbitrarily reconfigure and operate the inverter pair in either of these modes without reconfiguring the AC wiring to match the configuration, and you never mention this. A parallel pair will have each of their L1 and L2 connected to the other's L1 and L2 respectively: L1 to L1, L2 to L2, and one of those will become the neutral. A split phase pair cannot operate connected this way since the two legs are, by definition, 180 degrees apart, not in phase. I expect the two inverters to be wired in series, with a single L from one connected to the other forming a kind of pseudo neutral, and one L from each inverter providing one of the two legs of the 240V output. I came here to see that AC wiring and you never discussed it.

I am sorry you did not get the value from the content that you were expecting.
