That Victron info display took a couple of minutes for me to figure out just what all it was telling me, but WOW what a great system you have put together. We are really enjoying our solar system and the invertor you sold us, but it appears we are still in the stone ages compared to your dual Victron Invertor set up along with your big battery bank. Nice Job and thanks for the great explanation of your system, you really have a great understanding of just how well your system works. We are boondocking at a new location in the Sierra Mountains and all has been going great, but we have several partially cloudy and rainy days coming up and we may have to fire up the generator for the first time since Quartzsite if the sun doesn't cooperate over the next few days. Our biggest issue may simply be we need more batteries to get through the smoky and cloudy days.

I have a Victron Multiplus II 120V/50A 3000W inverter/charger that I'm in the process of installing in my Class-A motorhome that is a single inverter/charger that can do split phase. This inverter was specifically designed for 50A Split-phase RV's and when I'm plugged into 30A or less it drops down to single phase setup running in parallel. I only have two AC's on my RV and no fireplace or dryer, so I think that having 3000W inverter should work fine for my needs. I only have 400Ah of LiFePO4 batteries in my bank, so 3000W inverter is about right for this setup. I would think you'd want double the battery bank size if you have two 3000W inverters in a boondocking situation. I like your tip about reducing the battery charge rate to preserve battery life. My Inverter came preprogramed to charge at 120A, since my batteries can handle up to 200A, but I plan to drop the charge rate down to 70A to help preserve my battery life. I was not aware that charging the batteries fast was an issue as long as you were not exceeding the recommended charging current limit. I imagine reducing the charging rate will also be good for the inverter/charger as well to not charge at the maximum charge rate of the inverter. Good tip! Very good video BTW, I really enjoyed seeing how the system responded under different configurations. I was surprised that the inverter didn't use all the available AC current available from shore power, before it choose to begin power assisting. I would think the inverter would run up to the current limit set and only assist when current requirements exceeded to set limit. Curious.
@RVLIVINGLIFE
@RVLIVINGLIFE Жыл бұрын
I was also surprised by the power assist coming on before hitting the settings. I assume there is likely some leeway in the settings to avoid a sudden heavy load that would kick everything out. I also suspect it could be the fact the two inverters don’t actually work as well together as it could. Let me know how yours works out when you are all setup. I am always curious to learn why the power assist comes on early and if it does so in a single inverter setup.

Hi Gary, this video was incredibly informative. I have a unique system I setup but have not yet had both inverters on at same time as i wanted to be certain I wasn’t going to mess anything up. I have 2 Victron inverters one is multiplus ii 12/3000 2x-20 the second one is a 24/3000. Yes, I have 2 battery banks, one 12v and one 24v. I have read that to stop Victron in parallel the unit must be same units. Which mine are not. Would your configuration work for me?
@RVLIVINGLIFE
@RVLIVINGLIFE 24 күн бұрын
Interesting question. This is only an opinion but I would think that because the inverters are different it likely will not work in parallel. Too run both inverters at once I would consider splitting the power panel into two separate panels and wire each system separately.

Your videos are very informative, detailed and fun to watch. SW of the US is really hot in summer. Now, with your dual Victron inverters, are you able to run your AC while driving the road? What is your engine alternator capacity (recommended) to charge your 800amps? Lastly, what is your sweet spot amperage 12 v batteries for your goal of camping in 30 amp pedestal or occasional boondocking? Thanks

We run the front AC on batteries while driving. We can run 2 or even 3 AC’s but that does shorten the amount of time we can run off the batteries. I did make a video on “why you want soft starts on your AC’s” where I show us running multiple AC’s off the batteries. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rM93Z82EqsqWgIU.html

Hey Peter, the solar input power is much less than yours as we only have two 425 watt panels. When we originally designed this system it was for a different purpose than most RVers. Most want a massive solar setup to be able to run off grid. For us it was more important to be able to live easily in 30 amp parks like we were in a 50 amp park. I explained it further in these two videos kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p9-So8l5y9eUnoE.htmlsi=6W02DAhGC7n1C8Oe and kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q9iZmLWWr82xoGQ.htmlsi=0wlSPYurnOWyXuNZ

Hi Gary, I love your video. I'm curious about how much you can pull through your inverters. I saw video on another channel talking about an amp limit through the inverter but I can't find any documentation in the Victron manual for this model or others. I was wondering if you might be able to do a video without your AC and pull from just your battery bank and test the limits.

When solely on batteries a 3000w inverter can only put out 3000w. When on shore power each inverter can pass 3000w through and assist with another 3000w.

There are inverters that do split phase in one inverter, they tend to be cheap chinese inverters that don't allow for multiple inverters acting in concert or aren't UL listed so can't be used in many jurisdictions.

@RVLivingLIFE I personally didn't program the inverters. I had help with this installation. Its the first time he has done a system like this.. I have all the correct and necessary equipment from victron... on top, I have 4ea. 320w .. 4ea. Lithium 206ah batteries. 2 inverters.. etc etc.. all from victron a little over $12k.. wished I could load photos because it's a sweet setup.. running it in parallel because I can't figure out how to program the inverters to run it in split phase.. the slave inverter isn't pulling from shore power its power to the rv is coming from batteries and it runs everything except the air-conditioning.. after turning off the appliance it had powered the inverter then starts to charge the batteries... the other "master inverter " works correctly.. it pull from shore first and the batteries assist when needed and the batteries recharge correctly.. when we thought we had it in split phase.. it wouldn't work at all.. also have never seen the incoming power on both legs.. it shows on the screen as the total amount for both incoming or outgoing legs..

Gary, great video. I want to do your same setup with two MP2’s in split phase. Thank you for showing us how this works while on shore power. How does it work if you are boon docking and you are not running solar or a generator but have a big battery bank. Do you still get 50 amps potentially on both legs? Hey Gary, thanks for the video. I noticed that when you loaded the split phase configuration files you still had the input switch set to parallel, this would mean that the inverters are expecting split phase but one of them is still getting L1 when it expects L2. Does that inverter just reject external power and invert from the batteries until you flip the switch to give it L2? In my mind the proper procedure would be to completely disconnect external power, then load the Split phase configuration file, then connect the split phase external power. But that appears not to be necessary… Thanks again for the video, I’m running a lowly Quattro 48/5000/120 in a much smaller rig, so I haven’t had to research running “dualies”… yet.

17:44, after your split phase file was loaded you cut back to the GX screen and shore power L2 was zero, but inverter L2 output was 280ish. I’m assuming the switch was still in the “parallel” position, so L1 was still going to the hot input of both inverters. Then you flipped to a “disconnect” position and the inverters went to Inverting mode because shore power indicator went blank. Then you must have flipped the switch to the “split” position, sending L1 and L2 to each hot input of the inverters, and they both began drawing power from each of their respective legs. Did I get the events correct? If so it’s nice to see that the inverters won’t go kablooey just because the sine wave went the wrong way.
@RVLIVINGLIFE
@RVLIVINGLIFE Жыл бұрын
@@ryanchristie5349 you are correct, it was still in parallel. Right after that I mentioned I’m going out to flip the switch to split phase now. You can see shore power goes blank when I put the switch in the off position and then comes back on when switched to split phase with readings on both L1 and L2.

Would I need a separate 230 v inverter (I believe you can program these European models to output 240 v 60 hz)? Or would I need to send the your 120 v inverter output through aVictron 120/240 auto transformer to step it up? Thanks!

As far as I understand you could run your 240v device on split phase without issue as long as your rig is plugged into a 50 amp split phase plug. If you plug into 30 amp single phase it will not work.

@@MrSummitville One increasingly common example (due to lithium iron phosphate battery banks) is a 240 volt induction cooktop such as Kenyon Bridge. For induction cooktops single ones and some doubles are available in 110 v but many 3-4 burner models require 240 volts. For induction (and other resistive loads with no motor, it does not matter if it is 240 v US (60 Hz) or 230 volt (50 Hz).

Aims 6000watt inverter takes split phase in and outputs split phase. 18000watts surge maximum. How do two Victron 3000watt inverters, in split phase, handle constant current over 3000watts each and NOT draw from the batteries?
@RVLIVINGLIFE
@RVLIVINGLIFE Жыл бұрын
In the settings, each inverter is set to pass 50 amps of power through it before assisting by inverting power from the batteries. 50 amps is 6000 watts. That would make 6000w on line 1, 6000w on line 2 and 6000w if both inverters are assisting 3000w each. That would total 18000 watts. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Have not used one but I suspect it would be the same. You would still need two of them if you want 6000w unless they have bigger ones. I chose two of these as I got a great deal as the new ones were coming out and people were panicking selling them cheap. The price has recovered since then.

@@RVLIVINGLIFE They do do the same thing, and they also have larger sizes. If you need really large sizes, the Quattros can go up to 10,000 each, and will do the same thing. There is a 15000 one of these, but it is at 240V single phase, so you would need a transformer for each. You can add lots to both models, so more than 9 for each of them, depending on the configuration.
