to all that are confused with the fleet showing up. it's because some trucks don't have the manpower or tools needed. like for NYC the send a Battalion Engine and a Ladder. Battalion calls the shots ladder blocks the affected road way off and engine works on the car. in L.A. some of the trucks are only so,well equipped for certain calls.

The hazmat and USAR rigs are usually cross staffed by the engine companies housed with them, so both rigs roll on an incident like this, hence the reason you see so many.

What is it with Cali and steady burners?
@CobraEmergencyNorthAmerica
@CobraEmergencyNorthAmerica 6 жыл бұрын
It's a law that all emergency vehicles have a forward facing steady burn red light. It's a bit weird but you can see why, it's so that when responding there will always be at LEAST one light. As a photographer I know how when you take photos, a lot of the time a photo may miss all lights if they're flashing. If a photo is being used in an investigation, e.g. a collision, you will see at least one light. It also means emergency vehicles must always have at least one red light on, so that some agencies can't try to get away with no lights or just wig wags.

What bank account?? You mean the pocket change he got that day.... that he was probably going to use for drugs or booze??? By the looks of the action in the video that's exactly what he did with the money (all $3.50 of it), too. Because no one in their right mind would go near a freaking hole in the ground unless their were whacked out on something, or oblivious. To Hell with the fines, I'm more worried about how he got there without getting hit by a car first.

Can anyone explain why such a huge fleet of firetrucks had to turn up to such an event? Who even called for backup like "We need twenty more guys to stand here looking at this hole! And they definitely have to bring their huge ass firetrucks and all fire fighting equipment herp derp!". Watching this just made me angry and depressed...
@CaptainLee
@CaptainLee 6 жыл бұрын
So on scene, there is USAR Task Force 103, Hazmat Task Force 105, Mobile Air Light 165, Light Force 170, and a single engine and quint. The huge fleet of Hazmat, USAR, and Light Force 170 all had barely any staffing on each truck but they are composed to be together in the sense of the tools needed. The amount of firefighters you have on scene is due to manpower, and it seems to be at the beginning of the incident where you see all of this, which understandable from a command standpoint, you need to asses the situation and already have that man power on scene if they are needed. If you noticed as the incident went, command started clearing out resources. USAR, Hazmat, and other personnel were much needed with their expertise to find out how they are gonna get the man out as it is not easy as pulling him but but you need to be concerned with his injuries and the risk that poses to the firefighters on scene when they go down that hole.
@CobraEmergencyNorthAmerica
@CobraEmergencyNorthAmerica 6 жыл бұрын
I don't even think there was a huge fleet of trucks - just several different specialist units for a specialist incident. Compared to how many units are in Los Angeles this is a tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny percentage.
@DIphone129
@DIphone129 6 жыл бұрын
SwedishMindwacker As an EMS professional in the Los Angeles area, this response was spot on according to LA Counties policy, procedure and protocols. There was any vehicle that showed up on scene from what I say that didn’t have an essential purpose for being there either. To finish I wouldn’t describe this as “huge fleet” either. The amount of units on scene don’t even make up the amount of EMS rigs my company has active everyday.

A tight space, deep drop - you need special teams to go down, you need teams to back them up, you need teams who have skills in urban search and rescue, hazardous materials and poor air quality. Plus you need medics for treatment and cops to investigate/maintain order. 😃

A few years ago, a dog was trapped on an island in a flood control channel during a rain storm and LAFD sent a full rescue response, including a helicopter. If they hadn't done that, a civilian might have tried to go down and get the dog and they would have needed to be rescued themselves. Armchair quarterback all you want, but they know exactly what they're doing.

What a waste of resources for one man. Seriously LA why. How about not sending all the city responders. Only 2 fire trucks, 1 ambulance to transport, and 4 cops for traffic control. It’s not extremely serious to send entire fleet of emergency services. Incident commander need some re-evaluation for wasting so much time on sending senseless resources for one man

All of these units arriving on scene have a specific task at hand. The Engine are generally for extra man-power, to help with moving equipment to the site. Urban Search and Rescue is on site to determine the best strategy of removing the patient from that massive hole. Hazmat Squad is on scene because who know's what kind of gases/chemicals are actually in the hole. He could of been breathing any mix of chemicals. Battalions (Chiefs) are on scene to command the rescue operations, and obviously Law Enforcement is on scene for traffic control. Sure, it's a lot of trucks. But if you take a second, and think of how complicated of a rescue that could of been, you'll need everyone who has that specific job set on scene to save that mans life. Why are you complaining about it? It's their job. Secondly, LA County, and LA City have a massive amount of resources. They have more than enough apparatus, and crew to continue operations as normal in the city/county areas. You wouldn't be complaining if you were stuck 30 feet in a hole.
