The confirmation bias applies to how we seek, interpret, and remember information. When we want to believe something, we tend to only seek evidence that confirms our desired belief and ignore the rest. When we do come across disconfirming evidence, we are more likely to dismiss the evidence and not critically evaluate it (Nickerson, 1998). If two people have the same information, the information is generally interpreted in such a way that supports one's existing beliefs (Lord, Ross, & Lepper, 1979). People who seek and interpret information critically and systematically, without bias, can still later recall the information selectively based on existing beliefs (Hamilton, 2005).

I don't think people realize how much of an impact this has on our daily life.

Thanks for the informative video. One problem with Google results or the results of internet searches generally is that: (a) Companies have marketing budgets to tilt results in their favour; and (b) Countries may censor the results or punish those who dare write against the government.

I find it funny I see a few comments from atheists who jump right to and show their own bias by saying something to the effect of hey this applies to them religious persons. I know by making this comment I am showing my own bias too but I am at least aware of my own bias. This comment section is a nice little case study on the topic of the video, Cool huh lol. Sweet vid very well made and good information. Thank you Bo Bennett!

The same thing happened in the comment section of his cognitive dissonance video. There were also a few comments trying to make a case for flat earth. It's best not to read the comments, which I have already done. I'll take your comment and balance it against the other less informed ones I've read and not revisit this in the future.

If I ever met a person that agreed with everything I had to say, the only thing I would know about that person is that they are either dishonest or very gullible.

*Your first set of searches should be neutral.* Take in as much information as you can while doing a neutral search. Your next two searches can be in whichever order but you will want to search once more *advocating for whatever you're researching* and then your last search can be *advocating against whatever you're researching.* Attacking information from every angle will help you stay as unbiased as possible.

I'll uoften do this very consciously. I'll be honest, sometimes I just need to find someone who agrees with me so I can calm down. I think it's important to hear all sides of an argument, but it's also important to know the majority isn't allways right. Actually history teaches us that the majority is usually wrong about most things.
