If anybody gives you something say thank you to them, or say thank you to that person. Please madam teach us on this topic it's so confusing.

Dear teacher, ı am a retired teacher of English from Turkey; What ı had been doing for the last 40 years had got nothing to do with teaching daily English , but translation techniques in scientific literature. One thing ı dare to correct in your exercise line: if the noun advice is uncountable, so you have to say MUCH OF HIS ADVİCE, instead of MOST of.... thanks dear lady..

Rebecca, this lesson would have been the perfect lesson to discuss a grammatical error that is displayed at the check-out counter of many supermarkets where a sign is posted that reads "This aisle is for ten items or less." Here the difference between items that can be counted (such as bottles of water or containers of milk) and those that cannot be counted or cannot be easily counted (such as sugar, rice, and salt) dictates whether the words "fewer" or "less" should be used in these situations.

But they learnt never to judge a book by its cover, they are in the Hospitality Management fields, and are set for the Forbes, travel awards. Seeing you today reminded me of your perfectionist image. Ps. they didn’t get to see you I took your example ‘s forward.

I'd like to know why an idea is countable but advise is not. Both are abstract nouns created in our minds. Thank you for the lesson. I always appreciate it.
@donamie2808
@donamie2808 7 ай бұрын
Ideas can be countable. Its because Idea is a one particular thing that has one information. Example, " My idea is this tree will collaps" but when it comes to ADVICE it has more information in it. However you may think advice too countable. No they are not. Unless you say give me ONE ADVICE. Or Piece of ADVISE. or word of ADVICE. Advise can not be break into elements. Advice” is an uncountable noun, which means you can't say “an advice” or refer to multiple “advices.” Instead, it's common to use expressions like “a word of advice,” or “two pieces of advice.” She gave me two pieces of sound advice. She gave me sound advice. She gave me sound advices. Hope it is clear to you now.

I beg to differ. Many. Including most Americans, dont get the non obvious ones wrong. No one. Everyone. None etc. most speakers use the plural. Our mother taught us the rule about 'one'. Less and fewer is another one. Very few people use 'few', 'fewer' and then, of course, there is 'of' instead of 've' as in should've. Contraction of should have.

Nice, English being my 4th or 5th language, not sure if I should be saying this but I thought I'd mention since I hear a lot of people even the native speakers making these mistakes. People often say "There's a lot of things that I need to do, there's more things to be dealt with" where I believe it should be "There are a lot... and there are more things......" I hope I have explained it clearly. Thank you.

@nono7105
@nono7105 5 ай бұрын
Hey there. I'm not a language teacher but English is my first language so I thought I'd take a crack at answering your questions. The difference between principle and principal is that the first is a guiding rule, or ethic, whereas the second is a title. For example, you could say something like 'I always check my blind spot when changing lanes, even when I know there's no traffic. It's the principle of the thing'. A principal is usually used to refer to a school headmaster. However, you can also use it to mean primary, or most important. Such as 'the principal investors of this project are very concerned about its progress'. As for 'each other' versus 'one another', there is very little difference. They mean the same thing. Typically, however, you'd say 'each other' in less formal settings, and when specifically talking about two things. You could say, for example, 'the gunfighters drew in a flash and shot each other dead'. 'One another' is slightly more formal (a bit more stuffy), and can be used when talking about more general topics. For example: 'Reciprocation is very important in society; the way we treat one another determines the type of community we build'. Hope that helps.
