In 2004, George Jones celebrated 50 years as a country music legend with a tribute concert recorded for PBS's SOUNDSTAGE program. Hosted by Reba McEntire, the concert presents live performances of Jones's greatest hits by 20 country luminaries, including Emmylou Harris, Kris Kristofferson, Alan Jackson, Vince Gill, Kenny Chesney, and Martina McBride.
"Golden Ring" is a song made famous by country music singers George Jones and Tammy Wynette. Originally released in 1976, the song was the title track to their duet album released that same year. It was a number-one hit on the Billboard country chart.
Connie Smith (born Constance June Meador; August 14, 1941)
George Glenn Jones (September 12, 1931 - April 26, 2013) was an American musician, singer and songwriter.

I adore Connie Smith but there are certain 'signature' songs that some singer just own. This is one of those songs. To my mind's ear no one can replace George & Tammy doing this one.

Lu Patterson, Tammy Wynette had a so-so career until she teamed up with George Jones on duets, without the help of George Jones her career would have continued down the same path. George Jones carried that duet without a doubt. Connie Smith on the other hand had an excellent career and was considered the number one female country artist for years. as far as her voice goes there's nothing wrong with her voice, it's just as strong as always, actually Tammy Wynette has a unique voice but it's nowhere near the quality of Connie Smith's.
