One thing that will absolutely translate to the NHL is his awareness. I love that hes always moving, he's always finding open ice and he created countless opportunities all game. At the NHL level he wont be creating every shift but he can still make a sick play every period. That really isnt too much considering his talent.

Players in Bedards caliber always have a funny way of quickly adapting and growing beyond their next level of competition. Probably not straight away, but soon, I believe we could see Bedard do what he did to the Junior Circuit in the NHL. His absolute freakish understanding of the game will always keep him a threat no matter what.

Connor Bedard's totals across WJC, WHL, & WHL Playoffs last season: 71 Games - 90 Goals - 96 Assists - 186 Points - 2.62 pts/game (215pt/82game pace) - 67 Even Strength Goals - 18 PPG - 5 SHG - +61 - 442 Shots - 53.5% FO% He's dominated at every level except for the NHL. Can't wait to see how he performs against teams like Carolina, Vegas, and New York that are gonna do everything they can to try to shut him down entirely.

I think he's got a great shot at outscoring Ovechkin and Crosby's first seasons. They had 106 and 102 points in their rookie year and I think he has the potential to outdo that. Those numbers you provided are outstanding. 2.62 points per game across all 3 of those competitions is crazy. Even Gretzky was only slightly ahead of that with 2.71 points per game (granted, he was a year younger in his only year of junior). Of course Lemieux was way ahead with 3.98 points per game (didn't play World Junior that year though).
@doctorcane
@doctorcane 7 ай бұрын
@@kentmartin9289 I didn't realize Lemieux had those numbers. Yikes. As far as Connor is concerned, I'm more middling on his expectations. More in the 50-70 range for points. Teams will double team him coming across no man's land. prevent him from getting thru and then play their best defenseman on him in the zone man on man. With a few teams, it won't matter if they have horrible players or are still rebuilding (Philly), but with Vegas, Fla, Carolina, LA, Dallas, et al....there's no way he escapes with a 4 point game. They'd rather die by another player than let him get off. He'll get his, but just not all the time.

I am old enough to remember when people wondered whether Gretzky's game would translate to the NHL, louder lol. Something similar here I think. He will lead the league in scoring by his 2nd year, and probably stay in the top 3 in scoring for a decade. He won't be as good a 2-way player as some, but he won't need to be. @@SherLock55 You may be right, but he's a smart kid and he will stay clean I think for the most part. He'll take a few shots here and there, its part of the game, but he'll likely stay upright more than not simply because Chicago brought in a few veterans to teach him how to do it. If you recall, Florida brought in Jagr to teach Barkov how to stay healthy. It paid off for the most part, but maybe Florida should have brought in a virologist to teach the team how to not pass along infections last season more than anything else.

It's crazy. You see his stick move then everyone is kinda standing around and they call a goal. The shot is so quick and puck is moving so fast, that goalies just aren't going to be able to pick it up. And the thing about Bedard is he doesn't need open lanes to shoot. He holds it just long enough for a sliver to open and then fires it.

He's good at the last second hesitation. # 99 had this gift also. One thing to note is the goaltending and how it has changed over time. The goalies are down and in their nets so often today and maybe that's because of the speed of the game however it seems that if there isn't a change or some new/old discovery in goal tending the goalies may be left behind in this new game.

I used to be a goalie on a championship team. Its easy to see how Bedard does it, he has a super accurate shot and he disguises his release so the goalie cant read it. Wrist shots are the most difficult to read because there is no wind up to give the goalie a split second to get set. On the last two goals, the goalie might have had a better chance by moving out to cut down the angle.

The way to stop the quick release of Mathews and Bedard is for the goalie to do exactly what you described. When Price had those 2 super seasons that is what he did but somehow along the way forgot how to do that after the Rangers playoff series where they intentionally took him out. Teams will make a book on Bedard and have their teams study his...go to's.....McDavid has his speed to give him that super edge Bedard, will have to work on his skating and speed.

I'm much more interested in seeing how Bedard performs in his first NHL game rather than what he does in a prospect tournament or even preseason games. If he performs like this when the games really matter and when he's facing off against seasoned NHL players, I'll be right on that Bedard hype train.

yes. He excels in the juniors but will need to adapt to seasoned professionals in the NHL. Hopefully he has the talent to read and adjust his maneuvers and skills in the big league.

I think if he doesn't het injured, he's getting at least 40 goals and 100 points. That's around what Crosby got, and I really believe that he is that caliber of player.

Good thing the NHL paid $7 for the cell phone camera 200 feet away from the ice to document this. I just spend all summer seeing Messi plastered all over Apple TV...every practice and game was filmed close up with behind the scenes footage. This is NHL marketing at its best.

the 0:10 play he could and might get rocked, in any league in the nhl the guys are trained to look for the open slot and hit hard to protect a rebound or shot

He should be doing well, a lot of these guys probably won't make it and they are all the same skill level he's been playing against so he should produce like that. Once he gets in front of the stars of the NHL, we'll see what he can actually do....

It'll last only until some big guy makes his game bonus with a "legal" hit that ends Bedard's season or career. There's simply no consequence on the books big enough for any other team to let Bedard dangle his way to a cup his first season. I hope he keeps his head up and survives first contact with some of the larger hitters in the league because they're all gonna go for the hit every time. What's the fine up to, a nickel or maybe a quarter? They'll pay that and smile.
