My coach told me that it's best to use your shoulders when you balance, nothing being done with your feet or legs. Relax, throw your hips back, get a good grip, take a breath, and use your arms to adjust and balance. Fall to the right, steer left, fall to the left, steer right. You wont move your bars if you're pressed up against the gate good enough but the muscle force will give you a good way to balance. After awhile you'll find yourself doing it easier instead of really twisting

And that is the real game changer that helps directly which is essentially missing. After a while it’s programmed therefore this is missed when explaining. When I started this year after being off for a long time it made get first three of five starts even I was shaking 😂 one worked out with sit and standup

Hi Connor, cheers for the vid, great stuff. You mentioned about people trembling on the gate, well, that's me for sure! I am an old fart (44 next month!) who got back into BMX after a 30 year break. The one thing I just cant seem to 'get', is to just relax whilst on the gate. I tremble loads, so much so, that rather than concentrating on the lights and getting going, I am more concentrating on not falling into the people each side of me!! do you suggest any breathing exercises or anything to calm everything down whilst lining up? This has messed up quite a few races for me!! Never going to be a World or Olympic champ, but getting through the first few feet of a race would be ace for me!! All the best, Chris (England).
@connorfields117 жыл бұрын
try taking 3 big deep breaths before getting in the gate, or on practice nights ask if you can spend a few minutes just practicing sitting in the gate!
@2wingman27 жыл бұрын
Cheers for the reply, the breathing thing I will try for sure. I have made my nippers and I a stumpy gate to use which is definitely helping. Cheers mate!

Hi Connor , I'm from Brazil. I'm your fan. First I wanna say thank you for this video. I have a doubt about the crank position , if it changes in differents gates , for exemple a bmx supercross gate or a gate with 4 meters High or less.

hey Connor when I do gates should my body position be back or forwards I have it kinda in the middle to help me snap out the gate also what foot position should I have I usually have my front toes forward and back one pointing downwards

Hi Connor, A while back you had a leg injury, what exactly was that injury? The reason I ask is I have had a tibia Plateau injury a while back and I'm trying to gauge my recovery success.
@dselect55937 жыл бұрын
Got a tibial plateau fracture from a BMX racing accident in August of 2015. Plate/screws to fix it. Didn't race again til April of 2016. Took a couple of months to get comfortable racing again. Knee/leg will never be 100% but good enough to work/race. Hope that helps. Good Luck!
@67spankadelik7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to reply. I have the exact same thing. Mine happened in 08 due to a motorcycle accident. Still recovering. I'm an old school bmxer looking to hop back in. I agree it will never be the same. Oddly even though I can't run comfortable, I can squat up to 405lb and ride my bike surprisingly very comfortable. Thanks again. Keep turning and burning!!
@dselect55937 жыл бұрын
Always wanted to race when I was a kid but never did. So in 2015 at age 44 I started and so glad I did even with the accident. So true about not being able to run comfortably but can ride a bike fine. Moved up to Intermediate last year, will be in the 46+ over class now. Such a kick ass sport! Never too late to start or get back into it in your case! Hope to see you out there!
@67spankadelik7 жыл бұрын
I'm returning after a 30 year Break!... LOL. It is a great sport. Traveled all over the country and met a zillion great people. Coming back for the fun and to lean out some. I'll be the guy with the baby blue SE Quadangle cruiser, trimmed in black and gold. Thanks and be careful and take care.
