Take a trip back to a classic era in music when The Dream Academy ruled the airwaves. Nick Laird-Clowes, Gilbert Gabriel, and Kate St. John introduce their first two singles off their 1985 self-titled album to America. Gotta love the actual spoken bits in between.
Check out what the old band members have been doing since. Gilbert Gabriel is now in a new band called Melt21 and are they are set to release an exciting album shortly. He is also recording with Basia in Poland. Check out: www.myspace.com/melt21 Also, Nick Laird Clowes is going to be releasing his sophmore Trashmonk album as well later this year. The best website on TDA is run by Brent and is here: www.theacf.com/dreamac/. And come join over 300 Dream Academy fans on our e-mail list: launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/...

I hate to be that guy and I don't mean for this to sound like I'm being a dick, but the correct term here would be planetary system. There's only one solar system, and it's the one we're in. It got its name from the sun's Greek name, Sol. Though I will admit that "solar system" rolls off the tongue a bit better. But with that out of the way, I 100% agree. Her beauty is otherworldly.

@@deejaquila6407 I mean sure lol, it is a great way to describe her stunning beauty after all. I guess I just like to inform people of the correct terminology for certain things, in the hopes that someone can possibly learn something new and then go on to use the correct term/saying/grammar/etc. in the future rather than continuing to use the often-used wrong...whatever lol. It's not due to some feelings of superiority on my part or anything like that, I just genuinely want to spread knowledge where it appears that some may potentially be needed, perhaps out of some vain hope I have of making some sort of minuscule difference in shaping this world into an even smarter and overall better place.

I first heard this song when Dream Academy were the musical guests on Saturday Night Live (and actually played it LIVE, not lip-synched like it is here on AB). I went out the next day and bought the (vinyl) record. I still have it in my collection and still play it to this day. Great record, great band!

This Top 10 hit stood out in the Top 40 at the time with its 60's feel. I heard it on the radio and went and got the album on viyl of course in Tower Records in NYC in 1985, I still have the copy in minty condition. I wonder what they look like today, Oh the passing years. Great times

I need to make myself clear here. I'm first and foremost a Zep fan. I love Pink Floyd too. I have my metal strain... Maiden....Megadeath..... Motorhead, etc. I also am into all kinds of jazz and Classical from Renaissance polyphony to Rachmaninoff. All that being said I adore this band in its entirety. Their sound their feel. All of it. And yes, Kate St. John is one of those Babes for the Ages.

Up until a few years ago, the only live performance of The Dream Academy that was known was their famous 1985 Saturday Night Live performance of Life in a Northern Town. They did go on a small tour "of the sheds" of UK in 1990-91 for their A Different Kind of Weather album but as far as I am aware no know audio or video exists of those shows. Then Nick and Kate without Gilbert played some gigs in Japan as The Dream Academy in 2017. Some of those performances have made their way onto KZfaq and are awesome and include Hampstead Girl, Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want, and LiaNT. They still saw amazing after all these years.

@@dudedudeson3447 where ? This is totally synced. No way does a live performer sound that good that far away from his mic, especially back then. and especially at the end of the song, it fades perfectly like a studio track, real instruments aren't just faded out and they aren't hooked up to a massive mixer / sound board somewhere.. either way, i love the song, love the band.. Not a knock on them at all, it's like when you see some on stage performer like Britney, Justin, Michael Jackson running all around and singing perfect and not running out of breath. um yeah..
