I bought a 2004 Mustang convertable brand new. it now has about 110,000km (65or70,000 miles). Never an issue with it. I love it. And it's just a six with a five speed transmission. Great video. I blue a spark plug in my 99'. Forget how many miles I had on the car. I got an insert kit designed to ream out and re-tap the spark plug hole and insert a double threaded insert. Worked like a charm and saved the replacement of the head. I used a Ford Triton "Time Sert" kit.

Swap out the seats from a 2005 or newer. I did it to my 01 and it lowers the seat an inch. That doesn’t seem like much but it real feels much better. You just have to swap the seat rails drill a couple holes and mount the seatbelt shoulder plastic hoop. The wirings the same except for the forward and back on the power switch.

I own an '03 GT in Redfire metallic. These cars are nice and they're great looking. No car with a 4 or 6 cylinder engine will feel or sound like a V8 car. The 4.6 liter is one of the best sounding engines ever with flowmaster-type mufflers or whatever kind you like. They are reliable -- if not, you wouldn't be seeing so many of these cars going strong after 20 years. Parts for the car are inexpensive -- I got a brand new OEM quality door insert for the window switches that he was showing in the video for less than $20. Parts for modifying the car are abundant if you're into that.

@@JohnDoe-xl1ig let’s all be real, all of these 4.6 mustangs were a joke. Imagine getting walked by things like Grand Prix gtps and Buick Regals.
@matthewstansbury3047 Жыл бұрын
@@JohnDoe-xl1ig Most of that era mustangs ran super super high 13s and low 14s when stock which is rather dismal. While the LS1 of the same year was making what? 350/360 actual hp&tq until they all came with an ls6 intake and then made 385 hp? Pretty much a given for any LS car of that era it’s easily able to run bottom 13s stock. Mustangs eh, they are patting eachother on the back for getting out of the 14s. It was Major hp difference in reality. GM was sneaksters back in the day lol. Many of the f body cars would put down almost what they were rated at the crank. GM underrated them to not outsell the c5 which had the exact same everything drivetrain wise and a more parasitic rear. But yes, the supercharged 3.8 GM stuffed into their grocery getters would be very likely to take the same year stangs lunch money. Not considering late 90s cobras on the lt1, if we’re gonna go that far you have to mention the lt4 which was also in 96&97 Camaros that made a shitload more torque and hp…not trying to get in a pissing match nor hating on mustangs but let’s just be real, these things were getting walked from the early 90s clear up until like 2015 lmao. It was not a good motor and didn’t respond at all to mods. You’re wrong, a heads cam intake LS will ALWAYS make over 450 to the tire. With the 4.6 shit you have expensive heads and cams and lay down less than an ls car with bolt ons. Its sad but true…I’m proud of ford though. I love they made a 7.3. Just waiting on a boss mustang tribute lol
@matthewstansbury3047 Жыл бұрын
@@JohnDoe-xl1ig the weight difference between mustangs and f body cars wasn’t very much. Pretty obvious when you can just google track times and curb weights and see the stock times posted up. Even the cobra was not very special. The best thing about it was you could just drop a pulley size and add boost. Other than that it was still the same crummy motor on the same crummy launching car. Almost ALL older forum posts I’ve ever seen was titled “can I beat an ls car” and most of the responses are a sad nope. Either way, I’ve tuned both platforms. 100% of the time the 4.6 just never responds well to about anything. Skip it all and go straight to boosted. Even then you’ll struggle to crack NA LS car territory. I did a heavy modded 2000gt on 10 psi a few years back and it made 410wheel. Lol.
@matthewstansbury3047 Жыл бұрын
@@JohnDoe-xl1ig 800 wheel is unachievable for any of those stock motor for very long. Actually probably never.. Once you go boosted the sky is the limit but the motor just won’t handle it. Pretty much all 4.6s besides the forged(I think it’s forged) 03/04 cobra motor tap the pistons ringlands and powdered rods out around 450ish wheel. I’d have to research the blown cobras limits. Probably 550-600ish wheel for something that wouldn’t be considered “borrowed time”. As stated, Procharged with 10 PSI on a cammed 2000 gt with all the goodies and it made 410 wheel. Was a lot of money and time Invested for essentially a car that was really lackluster. Sounded cool though lol.

My 1998 GT car the window regulator needed replaced after maybe 100,000 miles. The computer went out once after maybe 150,000 miles or so. The rear axle had to be rebuilt at maybe 120,000 because it sounded like it was running on highway when driving down street probably my fault for not changing fluid enough in axle. I did have plastic intake manifold crack in winter and had to replace it. Other than that my car was great. I liked my car ride height being stock since they car has better ground clearance and rides better. I liked the seat position. No problem shifting mine. I currently own a 2006 Mustang GT. I used to get flat tires a lot with my 1998 GT since side wall is so short and Detroit pot holes are bad.

Dont forget the throw out bearings issues. And all the cons of a clutch ran by a cable. Squeaking TOBs and TOBs lasting 500, 1000 miles is unfortunately extremely common. Although I might be a bit biased as 15 mins ago I just spent 600$ ordering new clutch parts because my TOB will not stop squeaking!!!

Had it all done and here it is 4 years later (25k miles later), and the TOB is starting to squeek again. Love the car though, so I won't get rid of it until it fully dies.

Agree with everything said in the video. Mine sat up for 4-years, so I had to change radiator, thermostat, head gasket (2002 base convertible, manual shift). Problem now is that the exhaust manifold is overheating, but it only does it if the car is driven between 4-7 miles, not when its just idling. Various shops say nothing is wrong, but I can hear the tin clinking when I turn the car off and it stays hot for a long time afterwards. I put in the Cataclean, but that didn't help. I love my pony, just want to know what's ailing her.

@CarGuyV83 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the compliment! All 2004+ 2V heads are 8 thread and all "Ford Racing" heads are 8 thread. For the 4V cars, a common misconception is that the "blue stripe" heads are 8 thread or whatever, this is wrong. The only 4V C heads that are 8 thread are the 05 Revision Aviator heads and the limited supply of OEM 05+ cores you could get from Ford back in the 2000s.

The New Edge was a leap forward in styling. But that 4.6 is a dog. You can throw a bunch of money at it if you want only to still be slower than a stock LS of the same era. I think that's why every guy with one in my town has a loud exhaust and drives around in low gear. Good candidates for LS swaps though.

On the hood it’ll cause water to get in and fill up the spark plug holes in the head and possibly short out the coil packs.
