Gratitude for the past lets you leave it behind and welcome things to be grateful for in the present. Gratitude also lets you see things differently, for the lessons you learn from them, instead of grievances you carry. So gratitude and forgiveness are connected through opening to new lessons.

It’s more of a Catholic POV. Protestant Christians view the restorations of our bodies as being a creation of new, perfect bodies. And God can remake a body from scattered ashes as easily as a rotted corpse below the ground, so there’s no mockery involved in what is done with the remains of a soulless vessel.

@Anita Glasgow Many years ago I heard a fascinating lecture by some scientists who were not religious but did believe in the human soul. They talked about the energetic/electric frequencies that they thought constituted what we consider a "soul" and the very specific ways in which nuclear energy through the process of vaporization was the only means of death which would annihilate the soul as well as the body. I'm making it sound silly but it was quite thought-provoking. As for your actual question, yeah, I don't believe that either

Don't forget to offer a mass up for her! Unless if we die by martyrdom we are all most likely going through purgatory just to cleanse oursekves before meeting the savior. The mass will help her time in purgatory. May her soul rest in peace 🙏

@@sarathomas8499 purgatory is not in the Bible. Mass is not in the Bible. It is in the Catholic bastardization of the Bible, sure, but that is basically it’s own separate thing. How terrible to tell a grieving mother that her daughter is off suffering in an after death realm because she wasn’t Christian enough-especially when our lord and savior never once taught of such a realm! There is heaven and hell, and there was Abraham’s bosom for those who believed God before Jesus’s death and resurrection, but that place is now closed. So that’s it. No purgatory.

@@sarathomas8499 So you're claiming Christ isn't enough? So when Christ said, "It is finished", it wasn't really finished? No, Christ was and is enough; That is the whole point. HE is God and I am not. Yes, we in response of graduated , our freedom in Christ (again in Christ's actions not my own), and our faith in Him (once again His actions not ours) produce fruit that are not our own but His. Yes, we may gain crowns from our works here on earth but in reverence to Him, crowns will be cast at His feet because apart from Christ there is nothing good in us, nothing good in me. Purgatory would cancel out His Reverence, His proper place, and place us (either the individual who passed or those attempting to give penance for loved one) in His seat, His throne. Who are we to do this? I'm not trying to villainize the Catholic/Orthodox churches nor pit Protestantism against them either, as there are stances/practices that are held that are unfortunately lost in many modern-protestant churches, but it's the foundation of our faith and I don't want you to miss Christ and the relationship you can have with Him before it's too late; It's too important to not respond. Praying that this is/will be the case.
@sarathomas8499

@@DannyDevitoOffical-TrustMeBro it has nothing to do if you were Christian enough you can be the most holy person and you might just don't go to purgatory. A lot of things are tradition not everything is going to be every word is not going to be in the Bible for example Christians as in Protestants always talk about the rapture that's not in the Bible it doesn't say there's going to be a rapture also it takes a leap of faith to believe this there have been numerous apparitions envisions of people seeing what they describe is purgatory that we can't just ignore that there's so many that have happened from catholics, Protestants, and atheist. All across the scale they have seen this so you really do have to believe like this is true nothing we see or visions cannot be seen without it being allowed by God. Also that's not cold or bad telling somebody that their loved one is in purgatory because once they are in purgatory they are guaranteed heaven that's just a place of cleansing washing your sins away ultimately. And yes Christ suffers for our sins but we are humans we are not gods so without his help we can't really be holy, and all the pains you endure on this Earth and the afterlife contribute if done correctly to the ultimate salvation the God guaranteed: purgatory is there so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven. It is because even though we are forgiven, our sins have consequences. Through Jesus Christ we are saved from eternal separation from God. That is not in question. But there might be lingering consequences of sin in our lives which God in his mercy will remove from us. It is a place of hope, because God is making us ready to spend eternity with Him. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fdSnd6eks5y-loE.html Also Fr. Mike Schmitz explains this way better than I do ⬆️

hmmm... I disagree.... It's not "looking into the past remembering good times" that makes me cry. It's knowing that I AM living and my BFF won't be there at my wedding, or meet my future children. It brings me to tears thinking of the ways I can honor my friend at my wedding by setting aside a chair on my side with their name on it, playing their favorite song for a couples dance. It's living WITHOUT them being a phone call away that is the hardest part. Having the old pictures and videos to hear their voice when I'm in those moments ARE extasy because it pulls me out of the grief BY remembering those good times.

I lost my mom on 12/2. She was 88. She lived and died in CA and it took 2 1/2 weeks to bury her. 😢 it was a very difficult delay but her funeral, graveside and even her final moments were filled with hymns, songs of worship and prayer. The separation is extremely hard, but you're right. Our hope is that we will see her again. A song like this tugs at your heart strings, but it's not a message that resonates with me because I would never want my mom to return to this fallen world. She's in heaven and my greatest comfort is knowing she is with my dad, her infant sons and most importantly with her heavenly father. 🙏 🤲 ✝️

So, remembering it was absolute ecstacy.

Wow I normally nod in agreement but grief is so personal, and grieving your way is neither right nor wrong, it just is. I actually think the song is mature and beautiful, possibly a turning point for Bieber actually. The video shows that despite feeling like you can't move on from grief, that if you lean on each other in hard times you can close a chapter on grief and move forward.

I think the disconnect between. The song and the video is the entire point. The song is about wallowing in the past but the video shows Justin helping his mother and himself move past the death of his father, but it was after an appropriate amount of time to grieve. So after 2 years of grieving they both start to work towards moving on and the mother getting a boyfriend and Bieber being happy for them really shows that. As someone who lost their dad at 15 I wish My family had someone (in the family or no) who let us grieve in peace for a couple years and then gently helped us move on. But alas such a thing is almost anathema to the American evangelical way of life. All in all I like the music video and think the song by itself doesn’t communicate what it’s trying to.

I agree with most of the opinions expressed on this channel, but I do feel he's reaching with this video. I'm not a Bieber fan (so I'm unbiased), but what I got from the song is people comforting themselves with memories to help them through the stages of grief. Everyone does that, it's normal, lol. I don't see why someone can't do that and ALSO still have hope/faith that they will see them again, this video is a SIMPLE grief song, not all songs have to be deeply religious. I think it would be cool if more songs did have more spiritual depth, since most are not spiritually deep, but I think saying this video is encouraging unhealthy ways of grieving is a stretch for sure.

You can live life in the present & also experience deep grief in waves. I can be laughing with my daughter, then cry knowing she never met my dad & vice versa. I think this is endearing. As I witnessed my mom grieve the loss of my dad, what hurt me more than his absence was that he was no longer here to love her. I don’t know if you’ve lost a parent, Michael, but the pain is excruciating. I know my daddy is with Jesus bc until his last breath his faith never wavered. I, however, cling to memories of him. They are, in a sense, ecstasy because they are all I have left. To take these words literally is missing the point entirely. I get what he’s doing here bc I feel it. My dad was also cremated, and he brought so many people to Christ; he told any and everyone about salvation and God’s love. To think that he wouldn’t be permitted into heaven bc he was cremated is absurd. The guy at the end is someone she is going on a date with bc she’s finally moving on. I think it’s a good thing.

Yeah you really have to take the meaning of the song in whole parts breaking it down the way Michael does loses its actual meaning and what the singer is trying to convey. In the song Bieber loses his father and is struggling with that grief. His mother as well. So they work on moving on from that grief. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Unless you also think it was wrong when Jesus cried for Lazarus

This song came to my attention right after my mom passed. I use it to remember my mom and have a mini grief session. Just like Imagine Dragons 'Wrecked'. I will go to my mother someday; I would never want her to come back here. A song like this may not express all the feelings we have; but it's catchy and sentimental.

For me remembering the memories with my grandpa bring me joy. I look forward to meeting him again one day in heaven, however I can still look past on the memories and remember the joy he forever added to my life and others. I think not just one or the other exists and I don’t think remembering the past or having past memories have to be a negative thing at all. Everyone grieves so differently and I don’t think one is right or one way is wrong, it’s all a very individual experience, to me the only thing I think that’s unhealthy is to deny allowing feelings to pass or suppress grief rather than let it out and let us pass and let yourself go through the emotions and stages of grief. My favorite part of this song is when he says “young blood thinks there’s always tomorrow”, I take that as when you’re young you can often miss just how precious and quick life is and that there isn’t always tomorrow so to cherish every moment we have in the present, at least that’s my perception and take on it. Imo there are stages to grief and as time goes on we sometimes and often enough feel differently than how we felt weeks, months or years prior, so this song could just be what he felt in a certain moment or at a certain stage or whatever the case. I actually find this song really beautiful and can view it as cherishing the time one did have with someone I don’t see it as wallowing at all.

Great breakdown, Knowles. The guy at the end, sitting on his convertible beside their jeep, appears to be the 'swiped right' guy on the dating app that the son signed her up for, then set up the meet without her knowledge, I gather from her surprised reaction. He doesn't want her to continue wallowing alone in grief, but to find companionship and happiness again. 🤷

I agree with you on everything you've said in this video. After my dear uncle died, I've experienced the worst grief ever. I was so sad that he was here no more, I used to dream about him being alive or resurrected, I was hearing his voice when others were speaking, I was terrified of death (he died suddenly). The ONLY thing that saved me was God because I knew that I HAD to pray for his soul and mine in order to meet him again, as I wasn't that close to God. His death brought me faith and I am sure we will see each other at the right moment.

everything? You agree that you could be the most perfect morally upstanding person to ever live. Nothing but love for all. But you got cremated or incinerated and thus arent going to heaven? Does that sound like something Jesus' would allow happen?
@catherineb855
@catherineb855 Жыл бұрын
@@onebuffalo5402 I can't talk in Jesus' name, He's the only one to judge, but I don't think that one's soul will go to hell just because their body was incinerated without their consent, and I am not sure what will happen if you consent to that. All I know is that we have to bury our dead, not incinerate them as per Michael's argument.

You're the 1st person to explain WHY burial vs cremation. I've asked MANY from pastor, my parents, Google, the Bible & NEVER got an answer. My inner instinct always guides me to burial, yet then you weigh cost (& I've heard of some pretty neat cremation stories as well). My hubby "doesn't want to be trapped in a box" the thought freaks him out lol. And I, in a sense, did kinda think of resurrection atleast the "when He returns" kind of thinking 🤔 just didn't know the full detailed explanation. Thank you for this... you 100% just made up my mind... guess I better start saving now.

I actually have to be a bit critical of your breakdown here. I think everyone grieves differently, and i don't think that's wrong. Loss can be torture, and people tend to be desperate to alleviate that. Missing the ones we lost is reasonable. We have to endure the remainder of our lives without the ones who helped us, who stood by us, who made us happy. It won't go away just by looking forward to seeing them in the afterlife. Although it would be nice if it were so simple. I think this is the first time i don't wholeheartedly agree with you!

My brother was killed by a drunk driver when he was 37 and I was 35. It destroyed me. It took me years to recover. My (now) ex-husband had zero empathy for me (though in his mind he is SO spiritual, loving, blah, blah). I had no support, no one to tell me it was okay to grieve. What I learned from that is no one gets to tell you how to grieve or how long to grieve. I've buried many young people in my family since then and it's still very painful at times. I'm a Christian. I know I'll see them again. But it still HURTS.

I sort of interpreted the line” I miss you more than life” line as “I miss you so much now that you’re gone.” So often, we take advantage of our loved ones always being around that when they pass, you miss them so much more as opposed to when they were alive. Not that you never cared for them when they were alive, but you take for granted your loved ones always being around in your normal, mundane life and now, you have to adjust to them being gone.

I get the sentiment in the song. I lost my only brother(and sibling) back in October to a bilateral pulmonary embolism at age 35. So needless to say it was unexpected even though we knew that a mutation was lurking in our family. We’re believing Christians, but there are times I really get the sentiment after Thanksgiving and Christmas, and I have no idea how I’m going to get through March and his birthday. I don’t know how people get through grief without the knowledge that you’ll be united.

I just appreciate that this is a pop song saying something meaningful. As for the ecstasy line, maybe he means he uses those memories as a drug in a sense. I lost my dad and my second child and for a long time with my dad I wallowed in that and never wanted to forget. I learned by the time I had my child taken away in a second-trimester miscarriage and it was a strange, especially painful loss in part because of not getting to make those memories,but in grieving I was reminded of the goodness and grace of God and that my baby is held by Jesus, loved even more than I ever could and I look forward to the day we all meet again. I think that’s the healthier view but it’s very very hard to stay in that mindset. Having a healthy understanding of grief is one thing; the practice of faith in these moments is more difficult.
