I initially wanted to make it work, because my ex husband was still lying about wanting that too - however I realised quickly that he was still deep in his affair fog, still lying, still in contact with his affair partner. Trying to make things work with him felt like mental gymnastics and was only causing me deep anxiety and hurting my self esteem. Who was I if I could accept his horrific treatment of me? Leaving and getting divorced, while difficult, was the best thing to do for my own mental health. It's just not worth it to stay with someone who can abuse your trust so deeply.

My relationship is a second marriage for each of us. I believe strongly that the lessons learned in our first marriages, and in therapy prior to meeting, have made us navigate this relationship better than we could've if we'd met decades ago. While I wish we didn't experience those hard times, we appreciate each other so much, avoiding the common pitfall of taking a blessing for granted.

I just found out it’s been the majority of our marriages he’s been cheating. I want to leave but I’m afraid and he is repentant and I think he will change. I don’t know that I can stand being with him though
